Wen Boss was a bit surprised and asked why we needed to go to such a deserted place.
I explained that the bustling market would disturb Ajan. Besides, if we performed the ritual here, people would think you were superstitious. Wen Boss was genuinely scared of the car and hesitated to drive. I chuckled, took the initiative to start the car, and drove them to a secluded area on the outskirts of the city.
Surprisingly, even though this car had been in an accident, it was much easier to handle than the Passat I owned. After getting out of the car, I pulled Wen Boss to stand about seven or eight meters away from it. He asked if we needed to buy some yellow paper or a rooster. I laughed and said, "That's used in Taoist rituals; Ajan has his own methods."
Just then, Ajan Master had already opened all four doors, including the trunk. He then took out a bottle about the size of a fist from his bag, filled with a black-gray powder. Ajan Dong sprinkled this powder around the BMW, and Wen Boss asked what he was doing. I couldn't explain clearly, so I stammered that it was some kind of ritual powder, possibly made from human bones.
Wen Boss's face turned a bit pale as he said, "Isn't that just ashes? How can this stuff be used for rituals?"
I told him that Thai Ajan rituals are different from those of Taoist priests and monks on the mainland. They often excel at using objects from deceased individuals for their spells, such as Corpse Oil, bone powder, and Grave Soil. To an ordinary person, this seems like dark magic and is not at all righteous.
After sprinkling a large amount of powder, Ajan Dong took out two pieces of black tattered cloth and placed them at the front of the car. He then pulled out a pen and a bottle of liquid, dipping them to write scriptures inside and outside the car. The more Wen Boss watched, the more curious he became, asking questions left and right. However, I also knew very little about this field; if it were about Amulets, I could say something, but when it came to rituals, I was basically clueless.
To save face, I had to make up explanations that sounded plausible. For instance, those two pieces of cloth were supposed to be burial shrouds. Wen Boss was taken aback and asked if such an ominous thing could drive away ghosts.
I explained that different items hold different meanings and functions in different hands. Just like in the Bible where it is recorded that Jesus was killed on the cross; after his death, followers went to dig up his tomb. They found it empty except for a burial cloth. This cloth was stained with Jesus's blood and thus became a holy relic for Christians.
So not everything related to the dead is necessarily sinister. With an open mind, they can also represent something sacred.
Wen Boss was left speechless by my explanation. Fearing he might ask something I couldn't explain further, I urged him not to speak anymore because Ajan was about to begin the formal ritual. Before I could finish my sentence, Ajan Dong had already put away his items and stood in front of the car, staring inside while continuously chanting scriptures.
The Invocation Spell flowed from his mouth; even though it was broad daylight, I still felt a strong Yin Qi surging back and forth inside the car.
The car door was open, but the Yin Qi could not escape. Faintly, I heard weak and sorrowful cries of a man and a woman. Boss Wen did not hear the sounds, but he saw the empty BMW suddenly begin to sway back and forth. Inside the car, there were continuous banging noises, as if someone was trying to push the door open.
Boss Wen's expression changed, and he instinctively took a few steps back. The BMW kept crashing back and forth, as if it was about to drive away. However, Ajan Dong stood firm like a mountain, his expression unchanged. He continuously chanted scriptures, attempting to draw the Yin Qi inside into the shroud.
Gradually, the two streams of Yin Qi did manage to come out. They could not break through the powder that Ajan Dong had laid down in advance; the only place they could go was into two thin pieces of shroud. Seeing that the Yin Qi was about to enter, I felt delighted and wanted to share this good news with Boss Wen. But before I could speak, the two streams of Yin Qi suddenly darted back into the car like startled rabbits.
At that moment, all four car doors and the trunk closed simultaneously with a loud noise. The entire vehicle stopped moving, sinking into a deathly silence.
Boss Wen looked astonished and asked if the stillness meant that the ghosts had been driven away. I did not answer him but instead looked silently at Ajan Dong.
Although the car showed no signs of movement, I clearly sensed that the two streams of Yin Qi had not been collected but had returned to the interior of the car. This indicated that Ajan Dong's method had failed. If it were just a failure, it would not be surprising; after all, everyone makes mistakes. However, Ajan Dong wore an expression of confusion and shock; he glanced at me and slightly furrowed his brow. From his expression, he seemed somewhat dissatisfied.
This left me feeling even more perplexed, so I walked over to ask what was going on.
As I approached the car, I vaguely saw three distorted faces flash past through the windshield. Before they disappeared, they merged into one very large and terrifying face that pressed against the glass as if it wanted to burst out and devour someone!
I was startled and quickly asked Ajan Dong what had happened.
Ajan Dong said in a deep voice, "There is not only the couple's spirits in the car; there is also one particularly malevolent spirit. That evil spirit just pulled the couple back in and swallowed them!"
"Swallowed them?" I was bewildered; can spirits even devour each other?
Ajan Dong explained that such situations are rare because each spirit possesses different energies that are difficult to merge. However, it is not absolutely impossible; if one spirit has overwhelming power, it can bypass these differences and forcibly consume another spirit. Once this happens, the consuming spirit becomes extremely powerful, and due to its mixed attributes, it becomes correspondingly more difficult to disperse or exorcise.
Ajan Dong told me that he sensed a very complex aura from that spirit, which should not be naturally occurring. He complained a bit that I hadn't clarified things beforehand, and now we had three spirits mixed together. With the current setup, it would be difficult to exorcise them.
How was I supposed to know there was a third spirit in the car? Both the second-hand car market and Boss Wen only mentioned that a couple had died inside. I was quite displeased and walked over to the somewhat uneasy Boss Wen, questioning him about why he had lied!
Boss Wen had already noticed something was off from our expressions and tones. When he learned there were three spirits in the car, he looked shocked and repeatedly said it was impossible! I asked him if he had checked with the Traffic Management Department about how many incidents this car had been involved in. Boss Wen hesitated for a moment and then awkwardly admitted he hadn't.
I was utterly surprised; how could you not check the background of such a haunted car? Boss Wen explained that he had actually been eyeing this BMW for a while and had heard from some people that someone had died in it. Coincidentally, a friend of his had visited a local temple and mentioned that the monks there often helped people exorcise spirits. Meanwhile, the previous owner returned the car to the second-hand market after discovering it was being sold at a low price.
Upon receiving this "good news," Boss Wen rushed over to make the deal. Since he had heard from several previous owners about the deaths in the car, he thought there was no need to waste time checking again. So, he bought the car and left it untouched for several days.
A few days later, he went back to the second-hand car market, claiming he encountered supernatural events and demanded a refund. That day, he got back forty thousand yuan, while I spent fifty thousand to buy his Passat.
I was speechless and said, "You have such a big heart; you bought this kind of car without checking!"
Boss Wen lowered his head and replied, "I was afraid someone else would buy it first, so I rushed into it..."
I could see some unnatural fear on his face but thought it was just due to today's events and didn't think much of it. At that moment, Ajan Dong approached me and asked if we should continue. If we did, he would need to prepare more supplies.
I thought for a moment and then told Boss Wen, "Originally, two thousand yuan would have cleaned this car completely, but that's no longer possible. With an additional spirit present and three spirits mixed together, it's difficult to exorcise them. The price needs to double—eighty thousand yuan. What do you think? If you're okay with it, I'll have Ajan prepare; if not, just give me ten thousand yuan as a runner's fee, and we'll walk away."
When Boss Wen heard the price of eighty thousand yuan, his mouth dropped open wider than a basin.
