But speaking of which, those who are truly influenced by the little ghost generally do not believe they are in the wrong. However, Miss Ming clearly had something to ask for, which was quite different from the little ghost's mischief. I couldn't figure out her intentions and felt it was inappropriate to discuss such matters in front of my grandfather, so I invited her to talk in my room. However, Miss Ming shook her head and said, "Let's stay here; it's safer."
I was at a loss whether to laugh or cry and said, "You're a guest here; no one will harm you. Where's the danger?"
Miss Ming sighed and said, "Haven't you seen the news lately? There are quite a few people I've dealt with."
I was puzzled by this matter, and since she brought it up, I followed up with a question: "You didn't seem like that before... what made you change all of a sudden?"
"Do you mean fierce?" Miss Ming gave a bitter smile. She opened her bag and pulled out an envelope, handing it to me. "Take a look at these first."
I opened the envelope and found it filled with photos that were quite shocking. Most depicted people covered in bruises or bleeding, and some even looked pale, as if they were already dead. I stared at Miss Ming in shock and asked, "What do these photos mean?"
Miss Ming asked if I remembered the little ghost I had helped her summon. I replied that of course I remembered; she even called to say it worked well. Miss Ming smiled bitterly again and said, "It did work well. After I summoned it back, not long after, a variety show invited me to participate. At the same time, people came to me with scripts—very formal ones—and the pay was almost on par with first-tier stars. You have no idea how excited I was at that time; I could finally step back into the entertainment industry that I loved!"
I shook the photos in my hand and said, "What you're saying seems unrelated to these things."
Miss Ming nodded and continued, "Don't be impatient; I need to explain slowly. I've kept these things bottled up for a long time but didn't dare tell anyone else. Only you can help me share this burden."
As she spoke, I gradually learned some extremely secretive matters that were surprising yet seemed reasonable.
After her successful comeback, Miss Ming took on her first film role. Although it was just an ordinary romantic drama, it was enough to make her happy. Moreover, her co-star was a certain popular first-tier Male Star.
In that film, there was a scene involving a kiss. Although Miss Ming had been away from the entertainment industry for several years, she understood that art required sacrifice and dedication. She was not shy about such things; in fact, she felt quite pleased with herself. While filming, when she was about to kiss the Male Star, before she could fully engage, she heard the man scream in pain.
Opening her eyes, she was startled to see blood streaming from the Male Star's mouth as he looked at her with a very displeased expression. Miss Ming quickly asked with concern what had happened. The Male Star replied, "Why did you bite me?"
Miss Ming felt confused; she didn't remember biting anyone. However, reflecting on it, she realized that while trying to get into character quickly to finish the scene, perhaps she had gotten too caught up in the moment and hadn't noticed. She hurriedly apologized, saying it wasn't intentional. The Male Star had seen Miss Ming's films and knew that she had once been more famous than he was. Although she had faded from the spotlight for a few years, she was not someone to be easily bullied. So he graciously forgave her.
As they continued shooting the scene, just before they were about to kiss again, the Male Star screamed in pain once more. This time, Miss Ming was very careful with her actions and was certain she hadn't bitten him. When she opened her eyes, she saw the Male Star clutching his hand while a lighting technician nearby apologized, explaining that his hand had suddenly cramped and he hadn't been able to hold on.
The Male Star was too angry to speak, but given the technician's polite demeanor, he couldn't explode in anger.
During the third attempt at filming this scene, things became quite alarming. According to the director's vision, this segment included an overhead shot; however, just as the camera hovered above them, it suddenly fell. I’m not sure how heavy a camera is, but according to Miss Ming, it knocked the Male Star unconscious.
With the lead male injured, filming came to an abrupt halt. Once the Male Star recovered, he refused to shoot any kissing scenes again. He had developed a psychological barrier and felt that if they continued filming, something else would go wrong.
Aside from this incident, everything else went smoothly afterward; no one thought much of it—not even Miss Ming—who assumed it was just an accident.
However, a few subsequent events made her realize that accidents do not necessarily mean coincidences; they could be "man-made"!
One time at home, she invited friends over for dinner. Among them was a man she had known for a long time who had previously pursued her. However, Miss Ming found him too flirtatious and never accepted his advances. Since her comeback had been successful, Miss Ming was in good spirits and enjoyed joking around during dinner.
Naturally, since it was a dinner party, they drank alcohol. What displeased Miss Ming was that this man insisted on drinking from a shared cup with her. Although it sounded like a joke, it was quite inappropriate for a woman who had been toyed with before. Yet several friends joined in on the teasing, so Miss Ming reluctantly agreed.
To her surprise, as they drank from the shared cup and their bodies drew closer together, he attempted to touch her backside. Just as Miss Ming sensed something unusual happening, she heard him scream in pain as he stumbled backward and fell to the ground, spilling alcohol all over himself. He clutched his hand and shouted in agony. Everyone thought he had cramped up and helped him up while jokingly saying, "That's what you get for having ulterior motives; it's hard to resist a beautiful woman!"
The man explained that it wasn't a cramp, but rather felt like someone was gripping his wrist tightly, trying to break it. Who would believe that? There were so many people around; who could possibly grab your hand out of nowhere?
Thus, another joke was added to the dinner gathering.
On another occasion, Miss Ming went to an event and was surrounded by a group of reporters on her way in. They asked her why she was making a comeback, if she was short on money again, and about the wealthy man they heard she had an abortion for. A series of negative questions made Miss Ming's face change with anger. But there was nothing she could do; reporters naturally only asked the questions you least wanted to answer.
Miss Ming could only keep repeating "No comment," trying to push through to enter the venue. At that moment, a more prominent reporter blocked her path. Perhaps it was intentional, as his sudden appearance caused Miss Ming to bump into him and nearly fall.
Just then, a ceiling light suddenly fell from above and struck the reporter. The prominent journalist was knocked unconscious on the spot, blood covering his face.
After finally finishing that disastrous event, Miss Ming received a call from a friend she had dined with previously. The friend shared some "good news": the Playboy who had fallen after they toasted together had been admitted to a mental hospital. It was said that he had been talking nonsense at home, mumbling about not being grabbed and wanting to be left alone, claiming there were ghosts. His mental state was very poor; he seemed to have even attempted suicide, and his family had no choice but to send him to the hospital for a while.
Miss Ming was taken aback. She suddenly recalled the reporter who had been knocked out just moments ago and the Male Star who had experienced consecutive accidents while filming their kissing scene together. Perhaps it was a woman's intuition, but she felt these events seemed connected.
The Playboy mentioned ghosts and said someone grabbed his hand. Miss Ming knew very well that aside from herself, there was no one else around him that day; how could anyone have grabbed him? Unless it really was a ghost...
She immediately thought of the little ghost she worshipped. When she initially created it, she had told it that it could protect its master and guard against petty people. However, Miss Ming felt that merely having passive defense was uninteresting, so she specifically allowed Ajan to add some offensive measures. According to Ajan, these measures would only cause fever and cold symptoms or make one feel dizzy; they wouldn't create too much trouble.
But as Miss Ming pondered over it, she felt if these accidents were indeed caused by supernatural beings, it could only be attributed to the little ghost she worshipped.
With this thought in mind, she couldn't hold back any longer and immediately went to the mental hospital. There, she saw the Playboy. He no longer recognized her and only knew how to tremble against the wall, continuously muttering about ghosts and wanting to be let go, just as her friend had described.
