Various burial items embedded in the wall flew out like bullets. Although the two Ajan were highly skilled, they were caught off guard by such a physical attack. One of the Ajan was struck on the head by an urn, shattering it and scattering ashes everywhere. That Ajan was completely covered in ashes, unable to see anything, let alone deal with anyone.
As for the other Ajan, although he managed to dodge in time, he was still grazed by a knife on his arm. He immediately realized that this evil spirit was unlike any he had faced before. If he didn't give it his all, not only would he fail to defeat it, but he could very well be annihilated in an instant.
The Ajan opened the Small Coffin in his hand, and I saw that inside lay the skeleton of an unknown creature. He aimed his injured arm at the coffin, blood continuously flowing into it. After giving the two Ajan a little lesson, Zheng Xuejie did not take further action. She watched with some interest as the Ajan fed blood to the bones in the coffin.
I felt a cold sweat running down my back and couldn't help but silently shout, Second Uncle, you're going to get me killed...
Then, the Ajan removed the coffin and took out the bones inside. The bones were stained red with blood; no, it should be said that they were crimson from within to without. The Ajan pulled out a spirit-controlling ring from his pocket and began reciting an Invocation Spell. The bones in his hand began to bounce rapidly as if trying to break free.
It was evident that this Ajan was under great pressure; his body trembled along with the bones as he recited the incantation quickly and urgently.
At that moment, the skeleton suddenly shot out from his hand like a sword, aiming directly at Zheng Xuejie. She extended her hand and lightly waved it; a large object came flying toward her to block the skeleton. There was a series of cracking sounds in the darkness as the skeleton broke through the obstruction and coiled around Zheng Xuejie's neck like a python.
I was startled; although Zheng Xuejie was currently possessed by a spirit, if she died, Qin Senior Sister wouldn't be too pleased either. However, since the Ajan were fully engaged with that Old Ghost, if I tried to stop them because of Zheng Xuejie, not only would they likely ignore me, but Second Uncle might even kill me on the spot if he found out.
So I could only suppress my panic and deliberately ignore what was happening before me.
At this moment, the Ajan who had sent the skeleton flying casually picked up a hammer used for burial and smashed the Dried Corpse Arm in his hand into pieces in just a few strikes. He gathered up the fragments and held them in his hand while muttering incantations. Waves of Yin Qi emanated from his hand until he opened it again, and the fragments had vanished without a trace.
Meanwhile, Zheng Xuejie grabbed hold of the skeleton around her neck and pulled hard twice without success; her brow furrowed slightly. But before she could take further action, the blood-red bones suddenly exploded. Black spikes grew from within, attempting to pierce her skin and burrow into her body. At the same time, Zheng Xuejie glanced at her arm as if she sensed something amiss.
"Are you all willing to give up this girl's life?" Zheng Xuejie asked.
I felt heavy-hearted but couldn't answer that question. Qin Senior Sister looked surprised and asked me what was wrong and why she had asked that. I didn't know how to respond to her and could only pretend I hadn't heard anything.
Zheng Xuejie let out a cold laugh and said, "Indeed, people from foreign lands are heartless. Don't blame me for being ruthless."
Suddenly, she emitted a long, piercing howl, which was extremely grating to the ears, causing the surrounding cremation urns to explode. The previously concealed Yin Ling all rushed out at once. The overwhelming Yin Qi filled the air, leaving both Ajan in a state of sheer terror. When they arrived, they were unaware of the horrors that lay here. I couldn't tell how this Old Ghost managed to hide the souls' Yin Qi to such an extent that even the Ajan found it hard to perceive, but at this moment, the sheer volume of Yin Qi was enough to frighten anyone away.
The two Ajan quickly retreated, and the one holding Yueye finally wiped the ash off his face. His expression changed drastically as he extended Yueye forward and began chanting scriptures loudly. Streams of strange power capable of repelling the Yin Ling surged forth from Yueye. Under normal circumstances, this power would be sufficient to suppress any evil spirit. However, there were far more than just one evil spirit present in this underground space. Just those captured by Fat Daoist Ma Rulong exceeded a hundred, not to mention those from other places.
With so many evil spirits gathered together, it was beyond what the two Ajan could resist. I imagined they must be regretting their decision to wade into this murky water on the mainland.
Soon, the Yueye in the Ajan's hand began to crack loudly, with skulls continuously splitting apart and fragments of bone scattering in the wind.
The Ajan was alarmed and quickly used his Demon-Slaying Blade to cut his skin, letting his blood drip onto Yueye. Although dripping blood could enhance Yueye's power, it was still insufficient. I wasn't sure if that Old Ghost considered the three of us as well, but out of caution, I pulled Qin Senior Sister close to me, gripping the White Olive Amulet tightly while nervously watching our surroundings.
In contrast, Ma Rulong was in a much worse situation. Without a compass, he lacked sufficient means for self-protection; all he could do was stay as close to me as possible.
Perhaps that Old Ghost truly became enraged; several evil spirits attempted to attack me but were blocked by the power of the White Olive Amulet. Immediately, they shifted their target towards Ma Rulong. Although he was closer to me, the Amulet's power was not enough to protect so many people. He could sense the malice of the Yin Ling since many of these spirits were captured by him. It was like how some criminals seek out the police officer who arrested them after being released from prison.
Ma Rulong's current role was that of an unfortunate police officer.
I wanted to protect him, whether out of friendship or because of Banrada's connection. However, there were too many Yin Ling here; soon several more set their sights on us. The White Olive Amulet grew increasingly hot in my hand, bouncing as if it had springs inside. The air was filled with ghostly wails and faint cracking sounds.
I had heard this sound before when the original Amulet given by Second Uncle was destroyed by a Cursed Spirit. So I knew very well that at this moment, the Amulet must be suffering severe damage due to excessive energy consumption.
Out of self-preservation instinct, I had no choice but to abandon my attempt to pull Ma Rulong closer.
On the other side, the two Ajan were also struggling immensely against their foes. They even stripped off their monk robes to reveal various scriptures tattooed on their bodies in an effort to fend off the Yin Ling's attacks. However, since Yin Ling had already died once, they would not understand what fatigue meant anymore. Yet human stamina is limited; they could withstand for a time but not indefinitely. Moreover, the Old Ghost attached to Zheng Xuejie occasionally hurled objects at them. The two Ajan had already sustained serious injuries from her surprise attacks; it was remarkable that they hadn't collapsed yet.
While we were in dire straits, Zheng Xuejie's situation wasn't much better. She had likely never encountered Southern Evil Arts before and seemed somewhat confused by the Ajan's Voodoo attacks. The bones wrapped around her neck tightened continuously; black thorns had already pierced her flesh. Even with just the light from my phone, I could see her complexion starting to darken. Clearly, that Ajan had used Voodoo to directly send something into her body earlier.
Although it was possessed, it is difficult for the human body to fully utilize that power to its strongest potential.
I secretly worried, yet felt a bit relieved. If I had really softened my heart earlier and reported safety to Zheng Xuejie's parents, then if something happened to her later, I would have no way to explain it to her parents.
That Old Ghost was skilled in transformation but did not know how to deal with Voodoo. It should have realized that the body it was possessing was undergoing terrifying torment. If this continued, it wouldn't be long before the body would collapse. By then, even if the portal opened, it would be unable to control the body to leave.
After several unsuccessful attempts to break the bones around her neck, Zheng Xuejie angrily stopped her actions. She quickly ran over, heading straight for the two Ajan, seemingly wanting to do something. However, no matter what she intended to do, I couldn't intervene; I could only pray in my heart for the two Ajan, hoping they would be blessed.
At that moment, Ma Rulong shouted loudly as several Yin Ling were about to burrow into his body. They hadn't fully possessed him yet due to the struggle for control. Ma Rulong's face changed colors rapidly—sometimes blue, sometimes red, sometimes white, and sometimes purple—like a face-changing act. His expression was sometimes ferocious, sometimes smiling, but more often than not, it was one of pain.
It is rare for an ordinary person to be possessed by several evil spirits at once, let alone experience that feeling of being worse than dead.
Just then, the lid of a certain urn on the wall was shattered, and a compass flew straight towards us. Midway through its flight, a thick stream of Yin Qi surged out from it. That Yin Qi resembled a long dragon as it charged towards Ma Rulong.
I was shocked but felt that the Yin Qi circled around Ma Rulong before suddenly attacking the several evil spirits within him. The power of this Yin Qi was immense and far beyond what ordinary evil spirits could compare with. In almost the blink of an eye, all of them were pulled out from Ma Rulong's body. Moreover, the residual anger of that Yin Qi directly severed the evil spirits in half; after a collision, they turned into dissipating Yin Qi and vanished.
Once freed, Ma Rulong collapsed onto the ground, drenched in sweat. It was evident that losing control of his body had consumed a significant amount of his energy. Yet even while sitting on the ground, he pointed at the sky and cursed: "You greedy bastard! You only come now? Do you really want me dead!"
He was naturally cursing at the Yin Qi that had come to save him. At this moment, this Yin Qi descended and circled around Ma Rulong a few times as if trying to appease him.
I watched in astonishment; only he could get away with cursing after being saved. But looking at the compass lying on the ground not far away, I feared that this Yin Qi was indeed what Ma Rulong referred to as Jiao She Ling. They had been together for many years and had fought countless evil spirits; their bond was incredibly strong!
