The class reunion was held at a restaurant.
As soon as Zhao Hanyu and I got out of the car, we were surrounded by a group of classmates.
"It's been a long time, Yijia! What were you two doing in the car just now?"
"You two are married and still so clingy!"
Zhao Hanyu greeted them and naturally walked inside.
I was a bit surprised but didn’t ask anything. I guessed it was probably due to business connections.
The class reunion was all about small talk.
As everyone chatted, somehow the conversation shifted to my marriage with Zhao Hanyu.
I smiled and was about to speak when someone next to me suddenly said, "Speaking of which, what I remember most is Ji Hui spreading rumors about President Zhao."
I froze for a moment, looking at Zhao Hanyu in shock. Ji Hui? Spreading rumors?
Zhao Hanyu's expression remained unchanged, as if they weren’t talking about him at all.
The classmate continued, "At that time, Ji Hui said President Zhao was messing around outside of school and even torturing small animals; it was really awful."
"Many people believed it and pointed fingers at President Zhao, calling him a pervert."
"Right, I remember! Ji Hui even said President Zhao was throwing darts in the classroom with dead mice on the darts!"
"Hahaha, but the most ridiculous part was that someone claimed President Zhao had killed someone at school; thinking back on it now, it's just laughable."
"Who can argue with that? We all thought President Zhao was a pervert. But Yijia was brave and stood up right away to clarify things for everyone."
"Exactly! If it weren't for Yijia, we wouldn't have known how long we would have misunderstood him."
I listened in disbelief. How did I not know about any of this?
Zhao Hanyu glanced at me and said calmly, "After that incident back then, I went abroad until later when I inherited the family business and entered into a business marriage with Yijia."
I stared at him blankly as memories slowly resurfaced.
It seems there was indeed such an incident.
In high school, a classmate was rumored about, and I stood up to clarify things for him. That classmate seemed to be a cool guy who always wore a mask. I even helped him rescue a stray cat back then. Unfortunately, he was so aloof that I never even got to see what he looked like.
Could this person be Zhao Hanyu?
Just as I was pondering this, the door to the private room was suddenly pushed open. Ji Hui walked in.
He smiled and said, "Long time no see, everyone."
The atmosphere in the room instantly cooled down. Some people awkwardly greeted him, but most remained silent, especially me. I had just learned that he was the one who spread rumors about Zhao Hanyu, so seeing him now naturally left me with a sour expression.
Ji Hui, however, seemed completely oblivious and even took the initiative to start a conversation. But I ignored him entirely. Zhao Hanyu didn’t pay him any attention either; he focused solely on serving me food and peeling shrimp.
Zhao Hanyu went to the restroom. Watching his departing figure, I thought for a moment and decided to wait for him by the door. This way, we could leave early. However, just as I got up from my seat, Ji Hui blocked my path. He handed me a business card with a flattering smile on his face. I looked at the card in his hand, feeling as clear as day about his intentions.
His company has a very important project recently and wants to collaborate with the the Wen Family. I used to have a good impression of him since he had helped me before. However, ever since I learned that he had spread rumors about Zhao Hanyu, all my goodwill towards him vanished. I kept a cold expression and did not accept his business card. "Mr. Ji, you should follow the normal procedures for the collaboration," I said.
Ji Hui's smile froze on his face. But he quickly adjusted and started chatting aimlessly with me. I couldn't be bothered to engage with him, but this man was quite thick-skinned and began talking about Zhao Hanyu.
"Yijia, actually there are some misunderstandings between me and President Zhao..."
"When I was studying abroad, I had some interactions with President Zhao, and at that time, President Zhao's private life..."
I smirked slightly, looking at him with a half-smile. "Mr. Ji, did you forget to brush your teeth before leaving today?"
Ji Hui was taken aback. "What?"
I looked at him with an indifferent expression. "Why does your breath smell so bad?"
Ji Hui's face instantly turned ugly. He clenched his teeth, his expression becoming more twisted. He had just drunk quite a bit, and it seemed like he was feeling the effects now. Suddenly, he reached out forcefully and pulled me towards him. "Yijia, don’t act ungrateful; do you think Zhao Hanyu is anything special?"
I stepped back coldly, about to dodge him when suddenly the door to the nearby private room swung open. Zhao Hanyu kicked it open forcefully.
Ji Hui was knocked to the ground and continued to struggle. I calmly displayed the recording on my phone. "Mr. Ji, defamation carries a minimum sentence of three years; this meal must have cost you quite a bit."
Ji Hui writhed in pain on the ground, glaring at me but unable to say a word. Zhao Hanyu shot him a cold glance and took me away.
