Wu Rong looked at Rao Jie, unsure of where to direct his frustration. After all, this unexpected situation must have been quite distressing for Rao Jie as well.
Wu Rong tried to suppress his anger, unconsciously pressing his lips together, when he suddenly sensed something was off. There was a sweet fragrance lingering on his lips. It was the scent he remembered from his dreams.
He had indeed eaten the same cake earlier that evening, but the taste was still not right. Rao Jie had eaten the same cake as him; why did it now carry a different sweetness in his nostrils?
Wu Rong's mind began to race, analyzing the vague memories of that night regarding touch and scent. He suddenly fell silent, an eerie quiet enveloping him.
Rao Jie wanted to pretend that nothing had happened, hurriedly gathering her things. She stood up and calmly said, "Haha, Professor Wu, don't take it to heart; it was just an accident. I'm... a bit tired and want to rest first. I'll forget everything after a nap."
After saying this, she attempted to leave in a rush. Just as Rao Jie was about to walk away, Wu Rong suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist with such force that the books in her hands fell to the ground.
Rao Jie turned back in shock, her wide eyes resembling those of a frightened young animal. "Wh-what are you doing?"
Wu Rong's expression was serious, but there seemed to be stars flickering in his beautiful eyes. "What... exactly happened that night?" Wu Rong's initial uncertainty faded into a firm questioning of Rao Jie.
Rao Jie froze for a moment, unable to respond.
Wu Rong slowly stood up, yet his grip on her wrist remained unchanged, tightly holding her as if letting go would cause her to flee. "On the day I fainted from illness, Ye Ming said that when he arrived, I was on the bed. So you were the one who put me on the bed, but you told me I was in my seat. You concealed part of the truth; at first, I didn't pay much attention to it, but now I realize there must have been something you didn't want me to know during that process. So tell me, what exactly are you hiding?"
Rao Jie felt a chill run down her spine; her heart began to race and her breathing quickened. The blush on her face deepened further.
Wu Rong noticed her embarrassment and shyness clearly, solidifying his suspicions in his mind. "So it's something important—something related to me!" Wu Rong continued with his conclusions.
Rao Jie nervously darted her eyes around, opening her mouth to speak.
But Wu Rong coldly interrupted her: "If you're going to make up an excuse to brush me off, then be prepared for me to question and expose you because I really dislike being lied to."
Rao Jie was momentarily speechless, her mind so jumbled that she felt disconnected from reality.
Wu Rong tightened his grip even more. "Tell me! What happened? I dreamt that I ate cake, but afterwards you couldn't replicate the same taste even though you could perfectly recreate other similar desserts. That means it's not your skill that's the issue; it's either my memory or something else entirely. Just now... I feel like I tasted the cake again."
Rao Jie wished she could disappear on the spot; this embarrassing incident was something she never wanted to recall for the rest of her life, yet Wu Rong kept probing endlessly into its meaning!
Doesn't he feel embarrassed at all? If he really guessed something, he should think that if the person involved is her, he would rather lose his memory! At this moment, pretending to forget and acting as if nothing happened should be the right approach, right?
