I pulled the Wooden Hairpin from my hair and pressed it against Shen Moxuan's neck. "Shen Moxuan, let Liu Yu go, or else..."
Shen Moxuan's gaze was deep. "Or else what? Will you kill me?"
I tightened my grip slightly, and the Wooden Hairpin grazed Shen Moxuan's throat. Yet, he did not resist; he merely smiled. "Qing Yao, I want to see if you will actually kill me."
"You can kill me if you wish, but as long as I am alive, Liu Yu cannot live."
My hand trembled, and the Wooden Hairpin fell to the ground. How could I kill Shen Moxuan? Even if he were to kill me, I could not bear to harm him in the slightest. For in my heart, Shen Moxuan was a brother, a dear friend, and family.
I trembled all over as the Ice Poison took effect; I could no longer stand, nor could I protect Liu Yu. My white-clad youth, I ultimately could not safeguard him.
Shen Moxuan picked me up and carried me away from the Prison of Heaven, Liu Yu's figure gradually fading from my sight. My world had collapsed. I knew I could not save my white-clad youth anymore.
When I awoke again, I found myself in Shen Moxuan's arms. Not far away stood a woman—Si Yuqing.
After two years apart, Si Yuqing's face bore the marks of time. The melancholy between her brows remained, even more pronounced than before.
"Qing Yao, do you truly hate Shen Moxuan?" Si Yuqing asked me.
I shook my head. "I do not hate him."
I had never hated Shen Moxuan; matters of the heart are difficult to force. What existed between Shen Moxuan and me had long become a thing of the past. I did not hate him, nor did I blame him.
A tear slipped from the corner of Si Yuqing's eye. "Shen Moxuan is unconscious. The imperial physician said only you can save him."
"Why is he unconscious?" I asked.
"You stabbed him," Si Yuqing replied.
It was then that I remembered I had injured Shen Moxuan in the Prison of Heaven, with poison on the Wooden Hairpin. That Wooden Hairpin was carved by Liu Yu himself; I never expected it to be poisoned.
Liu Yu, oh Liu Yu, what kind of person are you? You saved me three times and accompanied me all the way, but did your approach have a purpose from the start? Was our past merely a deception?
But now, I had no time to ponder these questions. I knew the poison that Shen Moxuan had suffered from was the Ice Poison that afflicted me. This poison was a rare Western Secret Medicine, colorless and tasteless. If the victim did not receive an antidote within three hours, they would perish from the icy invasion.
This poison was cruel and domineering, with no antidote available. The only way to save Shen Moxuan was to transfer the poison to another person.
I followed Si Yuqing to Funing Palace, where Shen Moxuan lay unconscious on the Dragon Bed. His complexion was ashen, his brows tightly furrowed, and his body trembled.
Shen Moxuan's symptoms were more severe than when I had fallen ill. I knew this was because the Wooden Hairpin had cut his neck, causing the Ice Poison to activate upon contact with blood. Had I not transferred the poison to Shen Moxuan, he likely would not survive the night.
The imperial physician explained everything to me, and I understood the key points. To save Shen Moxuan, someone needed to draw out the Cold Poison.
I looked at the unconscious Shen Moxuan, my heart filled with mixed emotions. I had never imagined that Shen Moxuan and I would end up in such a situation today.
Si Yuqing knelt before me. "Qing Yao, please save Shen Moxuan."
I helped Si Yuqing up. "I saved Shen Moxuan. Can you promise me one thing?"
Si Yuqing nodded, "Not just one thing, but even ten or a hundred, I will agree."
"Release Liu Yu," I said.
Without hesitation, Si Yuqing replied, "Alright."
"I have one more thing to discuss with you," I said to Si Yuqing.
"What is it?" Si Yuqing asked.
"I want to speak with Liu Yu alone for a quarter of an hour. After that, I will save Shen Moxuan," I said.
Si Yuqing simply nodded, "Thank you, Qing Yao."
I knew Si Yuqing would agree because she loved Shen Moxuan, just as I loved Liu Yu.
