Yu Wan returned home, exhausted, and threw herself onto the soft sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. The screen of her phone lit up and dimmed repeatedly, the missed call notification from Chi Jinze stabbing at her heart like a sharp knife.
Chi Jinze set down the documents in his hand and rubbed his tired temples. He had been working for over ten hours straight and had finally uncovered the entire scheme that Sophia had used to frame Yu Wan. He picked up his phone and dialed Yu Wan's number, but a cold mechanical voice on the other end replied, "Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently busy..."
Chi Jinze furrowed his brow, a sense of foreboding rising within him. He dialed Lu Ningyan's number again. "Hello, Ningyan, is Wanwan with you?"
"Not here, what's up?" Lu Ningyan replied casually, seemingly unaware of any trouble.
"Sophia framed Wanwan, and now she misunderstands me. I can't reach her..." Chi Jinze's tone was anxious.
"What?!" Lu Ningyan's voice suddenly rose in pitch. "That woman Sophia dares to do this to Wanwan? Don't worry, I'll find her right away and get to the bottom of this for you!"
"Thanks, I appreciate it." Chi Jinze hung up and immediately drove to Sophia's residence.
...
"Sophia, get out here!" Lu Ningyan kicked open Sophia's front door and stormed inside angrily.
Sophia was leisurely sitting on the sofa sipping red wine. Upon seeing Lu Ningyan's sudden appearance, she showed no surprise but instead wore a mocking smile. "Oh, isn't this Young Master Lu? What brings you here today?"
"Sophia, stop pretending!" Lu Ningyan snatched the wine glass from Sophia's hand and smashed it on the floor. "Why did you frame Wanwan?!"
"Frame?" Sophia raised an eyebrow in feigned surprise. "Young Master Lu, you can eat whatever you want, but don't say whatever comes to mind. When did I frame Yu Wan?"
"You..." Lu Ningyan was rendered speechless by Sophia's shamelessness. He pointed an accusing finger at her and shouted, "Are you too cowardly to own up to your actions?! You had someone send those photos to Wanwan, didn't you?!"
Sophia let out a cold laugh. "Photos? What photos? I don't know what you're talking about."
"You..." Lu Ningyan wanted to say more but was interrupted by a cold voice coming from behind him.
"Sophia, how much longer are you going to keep pretending?" Chi Jinze walked into the room with steady steps, his sharp gaze fixed on Sophia. "I've already found out that it was you who framed Wan Wan!"
Sophia's expression changed, but she quickly regained her composure. "Chi Jinze, don't slander me without evidence. What proof do you have that I did it?"
Chi Jinze pulled a USB drive from his pocket and tossed it in front of Sophia. "Take a look for yourself!"
Sophia picked up the USB drive, plugged it into the computer, and upon opening it, her face turned pale. The drive contained video evidence of Sophia instructing others to frame Yu Wan, irrefutable proof.
"Sophia, what else do you have to say?" Lu Ningyan glared at Sophia in anger.
"I..." Sophia opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
"Why did you do this?" Chi Jinze's tone was cold, his eyes filled with disappointment.
Sophia took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. "I just... I just like you and didn't want to see you with Yu Wan..."
"You like me? Is that your reason for hurting others?" Chi Jinze scoffed. "Sophia, you've let me down!"
Chi Jinze turned to leave but was stopped by Sophia. "Jinze, where are you going?"
"I'm going to find Wan Wan and tell her everything," Chi Jinze said without looking back.
"Jinze, are you really going to give up our years of relationship for that woman?" Sophia's voice trembled, filled with unwillingness.
"Our relationship ended long ago," Chi Jinze said coldly. "The moment you chose to hurt Wan Wan, there was no possibility left between us."
After saying that, Chi Jinze left without looking back.
Before leaving, Lu Ningyan shot a disgusted glance at Sophia. "Sophia, you've truly disappointed me!" With that, he turned and walked away.
Sophia weakly collapsed onto the sofa, looking at the empty room, filled with regret and despair. She had lost, and she had lost completely.
Chi Jinze drove to Yu Wan's apartment building. He quickly walked into the building and rang Yu Wan's doorbell.
Yu Wan opened the door and was surprised to see Chi Jinze standing there. She paused for a moment and asked calmly, "What brings you here?"
Chi Jinze stepped inside, gently closing the door behind him. He walked up to Yu Wan, took her hand, and said heavily, "Wanwan, I'm sorry. I should have told you sooner."
As Yu Wan listened to Chi Jinze's explanation, she was shocked and felt a mix of emotions. His honesty and protection moved her, but it also made her feel conflicted about how to face this relationship.
Seeing Yu Wan silent, Chi Jinze felt pain in his heart and embraced her gently, speaking softly, "Wanwan, I'm sorry for making you suffer."
Yu Wan could no longer hold back her tears; they streamed down her face as she tightly hugged Chi Jinze, feeling the warmth of his embrace and his sincere love.
Chi Jinze gently patted Yu Wan's back and said firmly, "Wanwan, trust me. I will handle everything and won't let you suffer any more harm."
Yu Wan lifted her head, looking at Chi Jinze with tear-filled eyes. He tenderly wiped away her tears and kissed her forehead deeply.
