Gu Yuran did not answer, only holding her tightly, repeatedly calling out a name: "Lian'er... Lian'er..."
Xu Nian'an's body stiffened slightly, her face instantly turning pale.
She knew that was Gu Yuran's beloved white moonlight.
Even with amnesia, he still had not forgotten her.
Xu Nian'an's heart felt as if it were being pricked by needles, a dense pain spreading throughout.
She gently pushed Gu Yuran away and said softly, "Ran, you had a nightmare. Lian'er is gone; she won't come back."
Gu Yuran opened his eyes in a daze, still looking somewhat confused.
"Wife, did I talk in my sleep again?" He looked at Xu Nian'an, his tone carrying a hint of apology.
"It's okay, just go back to sleep," Xu Nian'an forced a smile and tucked him in.
Gu Yuran seemed tired as well and quickly fell asleep again.
Xu Nian'an sat quietly by the bed, watching Gu Yuran's sleeping face, her expression complex and hard to read.
The door to the ward was suddenly pushed open gently, and a nurse walked in.
"Mrs. Gu, I'm here for my rounds," the nurse said softly, but her gaze involuntarily fell on the hand Gu Yuran tightly held onto Xu Nian'an.
Xu Nian'an wanted to pull her hand back, but Gu Yuran held on tightly. She was afraid of waking him, so she didn't move again.
"Mr. Gu and Mrs. Gu have such a good relationship," the nurse said, watching the scene with a smile of satisfaction. "It seems Mr. Gu is recovering very well."
"Mm." Xu Nian'an replied lightly, not saying much more.
After the nurse left, Xu Nian'an tiredly closed her eyes.
Early the next morning, Old Master Gu arrived at the hospital with gifts.
"Grandpa, what brings you here?" Gu Yuran was a bit surprised to see Old Master Gu.
"I heard from the nurses that you're recovering well and that you have a good relationship with Nian'an. As your grandfather, of course I had to come and see you."
Old Master Gu looked at Gu Yuran with a kind smile, though a glimmer of shrewdness flashed in his cloudy eyes.
"Yes, Ran has become quite attached to me now," Xu Nian'an said with a smile, subtly observing Old Master Gu's expression.
"That's good, that's good." Old Master Gu nodded in satisfaction. "I may not understand the matters of young people, but as your grandfather, I just hope you both are doing well."
"Thank you, Grandpa," Xu Nian'an and Gu Yuran said in unison.
Old Master Gu stayed at the hospital for a while before leaving.
After he left, Gu Yuran suddenly grabbed Xu Nian'an's hand and said playfully, "Wife, I want to eat the food you make."
Xu Nian'an smiled helplessly and replied, "Alright, I'll go make it for you."
Gu Yuran was as happy as a child, holding her tightly and refusing to let go.
"Ran, your grandfather just left, so stop causing a scene," Xu Nian'an gently pushed Gu Yuran, signaling him to be mindful of the situation.
However, Gu Yuran seemed not to understand and hugged her even tighter, burying his head in her neck and whining, "I don't want to. I just want to eat the food my wife makes; the hospital food isn't good."
Xu Nian'an couldn't help but laugh at his childish behavior and shook her head helplessly. "Okay, okay, I'll go make it for you. Just let me go first."
"Then you promise me?" Gu Yuran lifted his head, his clear eyes staring at her intently, as if he would cry immediately if she said no.
"I promise you. Now please let go," Xu Nian'an said with a mix of amusement and exasperation.
Only then did Gu Yuran happily release her, a bright smile spreading across his face.
Xu Nian'an shook her head helplessly and turned to pour Gu Yuran a glass of water.
"Wife, you are so nice." Gu Yuran took the cup of water and said with a smile.
"Drink your water," Xu Nian'an said, feeling a bit embarrassed by his clingy demeanor.
At that moment, the door to the hospital room was suddenly pushed open, and a woman in a white dress walked in.
"Ran, how are you feeling?" the woman asked gently as she approached the bedside, her voice soft enough to melt hearts.
Xu Nian'an looked at the woman in front of her, her brows slightly furrowing.
The woman wore delicate makeup, and her long black hair cascaded over her shoulders, giving her an innocent and charming appearance.
She was Gu Yuran's first love, Bai Lian.
"Who are you?" Gu Yuran looked at Bai Lian in confusion, clearly not remembering her.
Bai Lian's expression stiffened slightly before she revealed a pitiful look. "Ran, don't you remember me? I'm Lian'er, your beloved Lian'er."
As she spoke, her eyes turned red, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Gu Yuran looked at her with disgust rising in his heart; he frowned slightly and instinctively leaned back.
