I forced myself to remain calm and said with a cold smile, "I don't know what you're talking about."
The boss sneered and patted my cheek, "Do you really think you can leave here alive?"
With that, he waved his hand, and two bodyguards grabbed me, leading me down a hidden corridor to a heavy iron door.
The iron door slowly opened, revealing a staircase that descended into darkness, a damp and moldy smell wafting towards me.
I was forcibly dragged down the stairs by the bodyguards to an underground chamber. The chamber was lit only by a dim light bulb, barely illuminating the surroundings. The walls were damp, the floor uneven, and a nauseating odor filled the air.
"Bind him!" the boss ordered coldly.
The bodyguards tied me to a stone pillar, leaving me unable to move as I watched the boss walk to the center of the chamber and press down on an inconspicuous brick several times.
With a loud rumble, the wall behind me slowly opened, revealing a narrow secret passage.
A strange smile appeared on the boss's face, " master Li, please go ahead."
I was roughly pushed into the passage by the bodyguards, and I heard the heavy sound of the iron door closing behind me, dull and despairing.
The passage was pitch black; I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. I could only feel my way along the wall, stumbling forward.
I didn't know how long I had been walking when a faint light finally appeared ahead. I quickened my pace and reached the end of the passage, where I found myself in a spacious underground space that was luxuriously decorated, contrasting sharply with the previous passage. In the center of the room stood a large round table surrounded by several men in black suits who seemed to be discussing something.
On the other side of the round table sat a familiar figure bound to a chair, her head lowered, long hair obscuring her face.
"Bai Xiaolian?" I exclaimed in shock.
Hearing my voice, Bai Xiaolian suddenly looked up, her face filled with terror and despair.
"What are you doing here?!" Bai Xiaolian's voice trembled.
I was about to explain when a man in black standing by the round table stepped forward, removing his hat.
"Mr. Li, we meet again," the man in black said calmly, a meaningful smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
I stared in disbelief at the person before me; he was none other than Mr. X, the mysterious figure who controlled both sides of S City!
"You... how could you be..." I was so shocked that I couldn't find my words.
Mr. X walked over to Bai Xiaolian, gently stroking her hair with a tone that was chillingly gentle: "Xiao Lian is my woman. If you harm her, it’s equivalent to touching my reverse scale."
It dawned on me that there was this layer of relationship between Bai Xiaolian and Mr. X.
"Wang Jie discovered my secret, and you inadvertently stumbled upon my plan," Mr. X's voice was cold and merciless, "So, you both must die!"
My blood seemed to freeze in an instant, fear coiling around my throat like vines, making it hard for me to breathe. Mr. X's gaze was like a bottomless cold pool, radiating a bone-chilling coldness that sent shivers down my spine.
"No... you can't do this..." I forced myself to suppress the fear inside, my voice trembling as I said, "I will... I will tell everything; the police won't let you go!"
Mr. X sneered contemptuously, his eyes filled with disdain. "Police? Do you think they can do anything to me?"
As he spoke, he clapped his hands, and two men in black immediately understood, placing a black leather case on the table and opening it. Inside the case were neatly stacked bundles of brand new bills, glowing enticingly under the dim light.
"Mr. Li, I know you are a smart man," Mr. X said, pointing at the case with a meaningful tone. "As long as you are willing to cooperate, all this money is yours."
I looked at the case full of money, feeling my resolve waver. This amount was enough for me to live a carefree life without worrying about making ends meet.
"So, what do you think? Have you thought it over?" Mr. X's voice rang out again, carrying an air of authority that brooked no refusal.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep calm, and slowly replied, "What do you want me to do?"
Mr. X smiled with satisfaction, stepping closer to me and whispering, "I want you to help me get rid of someone."
A chill ran down my spine as an ominous premonition washed over me.
"Who?" I asked.
"Officer Zhang," Mr. X said deliberately, a glint of malice flashing in his eyes.
I gasped in shock. Officer Zhang? Why would he want to...
Before I could process my thoughts, the door to the secret room was suddenly burst open, and blinding light flooded the entire room.
