A week later, the band meeting.
During lunch break, Su Wan received a call from Fu Weiheng. His deep and rich voice came through the phone: "I'm at your school. Wait for me in front of the teaching building after class. The meeting location has been changed last minute."
Su Wan's first reaction upon hearing this was that he was at her school. Her second reaction was that the meeting location had been changed.
"Changed location?"
"Yeah."
Then Su Wan heard a commotion on the other end of the line, which grew louder.
Fu Weiheng had just exited an office, and a large group of students poured out of the classrooms as classes ended. Since the last lecture, almost everyone at Full Melody Academy knew Fu Weiheng, and seeing him in person stirred excitement, causing groups to gather around him.
Fu Weiheng frowned, feeling somewhat uncomfortable with the sudden crowd. He hurriedly said into the phone, "We'll talk more when we meet."
A busy tone came from the other end, and before Su Wan could react, she found herself… having agreed?
Confused as she was, she still called Yao Ye to inform her that she wouldn't be returning to the dorm for lunch.
"You're not coming back?" Yao Ye mumbled through a mouthful of food.
"Yeah, they said the location changed last minute. I'll just grab something to eat outside." She turned towards the teaching building.
"Oh, that's fine then..."
"Guan Guan!" A shrill voice belonging to Xu Chengyang came from the other side, "Bring me back some fried chicken when you return! I love you!"
Su Wan leisurely replied, "Ayang, weren't you on a diet?"
"Diet? What diet!" Xu Chengyang shouted back, "Am I fat, Su Wan? You better clarify that!"
“……”
Faced with Xu Chengyang's unexpected accusation, Su Wan had no choice but to agree.
When she arrived in front of the teaching building, Fu Weiheng had not yet come out. While waiting, she took out the book "Western Music History" that she had borrowed from the library that morning and flipped through it.
Suddenly, a tall figure blocked the light in front of her. Su Wan did not look up but instinctively stepped aside. The figure also moved to block her again. Su Wan remained unfazed and stepped back, only for the figure to follow her movement once more.
Su Wan found this strange and frowned slightly in annoyance as she raised her head. The man in front of her was quite robust, around six feet tall, wearing a basketball jersey, with a backpack slung over his shoulder. His skin was dark, and when he smiled, his bright white teeth were strikingly noticeable. She briefly recalled that she was not familiar with this person.
“You're blocking my light,” she said, glancing at him and emphasizing her point.
The man grinned, “Hey classmate, let’s be friends.”
Su Wan ignored him and silently turned to walk down the gravel path.
“I’m from the Physical Education Institute. My name is Li Yu.” He ran in front of her, effectively blocking her path.
“……”
“I saw your performance during the student showcase at the end of last semester.”
Some observant girls nearby cast ambiguous glances at Su Wan. She began to feel impatient and was ready to turn away when her peripheral vision caught sight of a tall figure approaching from a distance.
Then, that figure stopped diagonally behind Li Yu.
Su Wan froze.
“Classmate,” Li Yu continued, unaware of the change in atmosphere as he lowered his head slightly, appearing somewhat shy. “You looked so beautiful when you played the violin…”
“Please move aside.”
A cold voice interrupted his words. Li Yu, cursing inwardly at the lack of manners, instinctively turned his head and noticed a stranger standing behind him. The man was taller and more handsome than him.
The stone path was not narrow; three people could easily walk side by side, and Li Yu only occupied part of it. However, the man's powerful aura momentarily diminished Li Yu's confidence, so he took a small step aside to give Fu Weiheng some space.
Su Wan looked at Fu Weiheng on her right. He wore a long navy blue pinstriped jacket, the zipper pulled up to the top, slightly covering his fair neck. With black pants and white sneakers, he appeared charming and dashing.
She had to admit that Fu Weiheng had a really good taste in clothing, or perhaps it was just because he was good-looking; everything suited him well.
Hmm, she seemed to be getting more superficial.
For a moment, Su Wan found the strong figure beside her quite bothersome. Frowning, before Fu Weiheng could speak, she stepped forward and grabbed his arm. "Let's go when you're ready."
Fu Weiheng was momentarily taken aback by Su Wan's initiative but then chuckled softly; he was being used as a shield. It seemed he would get used to it over time.
He took her hand again. "Okay."
Su Wan felt warmth in her palm and blushed.
Watching the two figures walk away, Li Yu could only think,
Damn, is being handsome that impressive?
...
As they approached the parking lot, Su Wan once again consciously released her grip, creating distance between them. She felt regretful for inadvertently blocking Deity's romantic prospects; what a sin...
Fu Weiheng was not surprised by her rejection this time. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly as he strode toward the nearby Cayenne.
Su Wan followed behind, recalling what Fu Weiheng had said about changing locations. She cautiously called out, "Mr. Fu..."
One second
Two seconds
Three seconds
There was no response.
Su Wan felt a pang of anxiety, wondering if the Deity was upset. She scolded herself internally; it was obvious! A proud and noble Deity like him should not be treated like an object, tossed around like this. If it were her, she wouldn't be happy either!
"Mr. Fu..." she tried to speak again, testing the waters.
Silence.
Then, Su Wan thought maybe she should just call him by his name. So she did: "Fu Weiheng!"
Her voice was neither too loud nor too soft, but it made the figure in front of her pause abruptly.
Su Wan's heart raced as she quickly covered her mouth, realizing she had blurted it out.
The figure slowly turned around and walked towards her. He bent down to meet her gaze, his voice deep and alluring like a cello: "What did you just call me?"
Trying to salvage the situation, she replied, "...Mr. Fu."
Fu Weiheng narrowed his eyes, clearly displeased: "Hmm?"
Su Wan looked resolute: "Fu Weiheng..."
The Deity savored the moment: "Yes, call me that. I like it."
Su Wan was speechless.
Once in the car, Su Wan turned to look at Fu Weiheng in the driver's seat, her face flushed: "Fu... ahem, where's the new location?"
Fu Weiheng started the car and asked casually, "Have you eaten?"
Su Wan fastened her seatbelt and mumbled unclear words in response: "Hmm?"
"Are you asking for Sashimi?"
Su Wan: "Uh..."
Fu Weiheng: "French cuisine?"
Su Wan: "That..."
Stepping on the gas: "Sashimi then."
Awkward.
May I ask, Deity, what substantial meaning did those two questions you just asked have...
******
Fu Weiheng took her to a somewhat famous Japanese Restaurant in Yan Chuan. The interior decoration was typical Japanese Style, clean and elegant.
Looking at the tall figure in front of her, Su Wan thought to herself, it seems like every time she goes out with Deity, it's always about eating... and every meal is high quality. Is this the rhythm of gaining weight? What is this sudden sense of guilt about!
The wooden door of the private room was pulled open and closed again. Su Wan took off her shoes and sat down on the tatami with Fu Weiheng.
On the table was already a warm cup of Genmaicha. Fu Weiheng took a cup and placed it in front of her, pouring her a drink, saying, "What do you want to eat?"
Su Wan raised her tea cup and took a small sip: "... You decide."
Fu Weiheng pressed a bell to call the waiter, seeming quite familiar with the place as he confidently listed several dishes.
Holding her water cup, Su Wan pretended to be distracted, but her gaze kept darting towards Fu Weiheng. He lowered his head, his brows relaxed, his thin lips slightly pursed. The short hair falling over his forehead framed his face, while his long, elegant fingers flipped through the menu. His calm and graceful demeanor made Su Wan's heart race unexpectedly.
Hmm, she finally understood what it meant to be utterly handsome.
At the end, he suddenly looked up at Su Wan and asked, "What would you like to drink?"
Su Wan was startled by his sudden gaze and quickly turned her eyes to the window, flustered, "Just tea will be fine."
Fu Weiheng seemed to notice nothing amiss. He nodded, closed the menu, and handed it to the waiter, saying, "And a cup of Americano."
After the waiter left, Su Wan couldn't suppress her curiosity and asked, "Mr. Fu, did you go to our school for a lecture today?"
Fu Weiheng shot her a glance and replied nonchalantly, "Do you think I would attend such a boring seminar a second time?"
Su Wan: "..."
Wasn't it quite interesting?
Fu Weiheng rested his hands on the table. "Next week, the band has a performance at Yan University."
This news made Su Wan a bit excited. "So you went to the school for the performance?"
Fu Weiheng raised an eyebrow, noncommittal.
"So, will you be on stage?" Su Wan leaned forward unconsciously, unable to hide her joy.
Fu Weiheng looked up, picked up his teacup, and smiled charmingly. "What? Want to see my performance?" He leaned closer to her, his gaze intense. "My performance fee isn't cheap."
Su Wan instinctively retracted her neck, her hand trembling around the teacup. Under his direct and confident gaze, she felt exposed and blushed deeply. "No... not at all."
Fu Weiheng responded with a pleased "Hmm," saying, "No rush; we have plenty of time."
...
After a brief lunch, Fu Weiheng took Su Wan to meet the band.
The Black Cayenne stopped in front of the Endless gate. Su Wan leaned out, filled with confusion as she looked at the exquisite logo, then turned to Fu Weiheng and asked, "Didn't they say we were changing locations?"
Fu Weiheng unbuckled his seatbelt, appearing nonchalant. "Yeah, we moved from the small Practice Room on the tenth floor to the large Practice Room on the seventeenth floor."
Su Wan: "..."
There’s a saying that goes, “The paths you’ve walked in your life are all my schemes.” Can there still be some trust between people? If he keeps pulling tricks like this, she might just flip the table in anger!
...
The two entered the elevator one after the other, heading straight to the seventeenth floor.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, a tall young man in formal attire was standing at the entrance. Upon seeing Fu Weiheng step out, Zhang Lin nodded slightly. "Mr. Fu."
"Zhang Lin, take her to the Practice Room first," Fu Weiheng instructed in a low voice. He then turned to Su Wan, looking at her gently. "I'll be there shortly."
Su Wan: "Oh."
Inside the Practice Room, everyone was sitting on chairs with their instruments, chatting and resting. When someone pushed the door open, they all fell silent and turned to look. Accompanying Zhang Lin was a woman with willow-shaped brows and apricot-colored eyes; her complexion was fair and delicate, with long black hair cascading down her shoulders. She wore a beige long-sleeved dress that made her look graceful and charming.
Zhang Lin stepped aside and smiled as he introduced her. "This is the new cellist of the band, Su Wan."
Su Wan nodded and smiled warmly. "Hello everyone."
"Hello, welcome to Hanyang." The first to greet her was a tall foreign man holding a dark brown violin. He smiled at Su Wan and spoke Mandarin with a heavy accent. "My name is John, I’m the First Violinist."
Su Wan responded with a smile, "Nice to meet you."
Soon after, the band members took turns greeting Su Wan and introducing themselves. Although the band was founded abroad, most of its members were Chinese who had studied overseas, along with a few enthusiastic foreigners. The entire band was quite mature and knowledgeable in terms of performance experience and education. Su Wan felt very happy; she would have a group of friendly and excellent colleagues moving forward.
The door to the Practice Room opened once again while Su Wan was chatting with an enthusiastic young girl. Following the sound, she looked over to see a familiar man enter. He was dressed in a shirt and trousers that were both stable and appropriate, with gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose; he exuded warmth and elegance. Su Wan knew that Ye Yinhua had once been an outstanding violist, so his presence here did not surprise her much.
When Ye Yinhua saw Su Wan, he was momentarily taken aback, but his quick mind immediately thought of something. He walked over and greeted her, "Reporting for the band?"
Su Wan smiled and nodded, "Yes."
Ye Yinhua patted her shoulder and encouraged her, "Good, work hard."
"Ivan." A deep male voice came from behind.
Both of them instinctively turned their heads. Fu Weiheng had a serious expression on his handsome face, his thick brows slightly furrowed. He stepped in front of Su Wan, firmly creating distance between her and Ye Yinhua, and with an unhappy look, reminded Ye Yinhua, "Aren't you going to prepare for practice?"
Ye Yinhua felt somewhat baffled by Fu Weiheng's interruption, but then suddenly recalled what his wife had mentioned last night about Neil and Su Wan. Everything clicked into place. Tsk tsk tsk, it turns out Neil is quite possessive.
"Alright." Ye Yinhua smiled and turned to walk up to the conductor's platform.
"Mr. Ye, he..." Su Wan opened her mouth in surprise and looked up at Fu Weiheng.
"Hmph, he's just an unprofessional conductor." Fu Weiheng still held great dissatisfaction towards Ye Yinhua's earlier gesture of patting Su Wan's shoulder.
However, due to Fu Weiheng's grunt and his childish proud expression, Su Wan couldn't focus on her surprise towards Ye Yinhua. She found Fu Weiheng extremely cute and couldn't help but laugh out loud, "...Mr. Fu, you're quite adorable."
Fu Weiheng: "..."
