In the hallway waiting for the elevator, the two stood side by side. Fu Weiheng pondered for a long time before casually saying, "Guan Guan, you and Jiang Zhi Yan..."
"Mm?" Su Wan looked up, her expression calm as she explained, "Oh, last time at the convenience store, Jiang Lawyer didn't have cash when he was checking out. I happened to be behind him, and since he only had a bottle of water, I just bought it for him."
The elevator doors opened, and Fu Weiheng silently pulled her in ahead of him. Once the doors closed, instead of pressing the elevator button right away, he stood beside Su Wan and stared intently at her face.
Su Wan seemed oblivious as she reached to press the elevator button but was stopped when he grasped her hand.
She turned her head with a puzzled look at Fu Weiheng, only to see him slowly lean down. Taking advantage of her momentary daze, his cool lips covered hers.
The kiss lasted only two seconds, a brief taste.
Fu Weiheng straightened up, pressed the elevator button, held Su Wan's hand, and said in a calm tone, "Well then, don't pay for others anymore."
Su Wan's face flushed as she stammered, "I just felt guilty because I accidentally saw what was in his wallet..."
She certainly wasn't so generous as to pay for others all the time...
Seeing her blushing face made Fu Weiheng's heart leap with joy, and he chuckled softly.
When the elevator reached the first floor, Su Wan felt even more embarrassed by his laughter. She shot him an annoyed glare and strode out.
Fu Weiheng leisurely followed her and caught her by the car door. Unexpectedly, he leaned in and lightly kissed the corner of her lips like a dragonfly touching water. "Not angry anymore, hmm?"
Su Wan's cheeks heated up as she quickly opened the car door and dove inside, flustered and no longer feeling angry at all.
This was right in front of the store!
The car drove onto the road, and Fu Weiheng skillfully turned the steering wheel, casually reminding, "There's a CD in the compartment up front. Play whatever you want."
Su Wan had not yet recovered from the initial kiss they just shared, her face flushed as she responded with a soft "Oh," opened the compartment, and rummaged through it. She pulled out a minimalist album and noticed the only title on it.
"Neil's Violin."
Su Wan's eyes lit up; this seemed to be Deity's album.
Carefully, she took out the CD and placed it in the player, pressing play.
Bright piano notes instantly filled the car, followed by a light, bouncing violin melody that played the main theme.
Fu Weiheng listened to this familiar performance style and unexpectedly glanced at Su Wan, smiling as he asked, "Why this one?"
"Well," Su Wan replied with a smile, "because it sounds beautiful."
Just then, they hit a red light. Fu Weiheng stopped the car and looked at her. She smiled sweetly as if dipped in honey, her bright eyes sparkling in the light. The dimples on her cheeks danced like rays of sunshine. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel, feeling his heart melt into a puddle, then said hoarsely, "I am deeply grateful for your kindness."
Su Wan looked at him and noticed the empty ashtray. Curiously, she asked, "Oh? You don’t smoke anymore?"
As the light turned green, Fu Weiheng shifted gears and drove on. "Yeah, I promised you I would quit."
Su Wan lowered her head slightly, feeling a bit shy. "...Oh."
Her phone vibrated. Su Wan glanced at the caller ID and answered, "Yao Yao, what’s up?"
On the other end, Yao Ye was noisy and excited. "Hey, Guan Guan! I'm almost at the station! Have you and Xu Chengyang left yet?"
Su Wan's heart sank; she had completely forgotten that Yao Ye mentioned returning to school today. They had agreed to go to the station together to pick her up.
She hurriedly asked into the phone, "How long until you arrive?"
Yao Ye: "About twenty minutes."
Su Wan looked out at the street: "Okay, I should be there soon."
After hanging up the phone, Su Wan turned to Fu Weiheng and said apologetically, "Um, I suddenly have something to do... Yao Ye is back, and we agreed to pick her up."
Fu Weiheng: "Hmm, I'll take you."
Su Wan quickly waved her hand: "No, no, it's too much trouble. I can just take a car myself."
Fu Weiheng made a U-turn, raising an eyebrow slightly: "Guan Guan, there's no need to be so polite with me."
Su Wan: "..."
At the exit, it wasn't long before Yao Ye came running with a suitcase, looking worn out. As soon as she arrived, she gave Su Wan a big hug.
"Guan Guan, I've missed you guys so much!" Yao Ye looked up and scanned around. "Where's Xu Chengyang? Why are you the only one here?"
Su Wan explained: "She decided last minute to participate in a competition and went to discuss it with the Department Head. She couldn't make it."
Yao Ye put her arm around her shoulder: "Oh, so that guy finally got it? Not afraid of going on stage anymore?"
Su Wan: "...I guess so."
"Don't worry, Xu Chengyang is fearless; she won't be scared of a competition. She's got this, trust me!" Yao Ye patted her chest and then suddenly asked, "By the way, Guan Guan, what happened when you two went to the police station? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, it's fine," Su Wan casually brushed it off.
"I heard from Xu Chengyang that someone was harassing you; how is that fine? I leave and you two get into such trouble—what are you going to do in the future?" Yao Ye quickly turned her body to look closely at her. "Let me see if there's anywhere you've been harassed."
The parties involved remained remarkably calm. "Yao Yao, he hadn't even started acting like a rogue before Chengyang kicked him, which is why we ended up at the police station..."
Yao Ye responded with silence.
As they walked and exchanged a few words, Su Wan spotted Fu Weiheng's Cayenne still parked where she had just gotten off. Then, Fu Weiheng opened the car door and strode over to them with long strides.
Upon seeing him, Yao Ye was startled and quickly approached, "Hey, Deity! What a coincidence!"
She had thought that Deity would leave after dropping her off, but unexpectedly... Su Wan turned her head away shyly; she still didn't know how to bring up her relationship with Fu Weiheng to Xu Chengyang and Yao Ye.
Fu Weiheng glanced at the evasive Su Wan but chose not to confront it. Instead, he said, "Well then, let me give you a ride."
Yao Ye was ecstatic. "That sounds great! Thank you, Deity!"
Fu Weiheng raised his hand and took the suitcase. "Get in the car."
Inside the car, Su Wan followed Yao Ye to the back seat. She nervously glanced at Fu Weiheng in the rearview mirror and awkwardly smiled, "Mr. Fu, where did you come from just now?"
Yao Ye chimed in, "Yeah, Deity, were you at the station dropping someone off?"
Fu Weiheng looked at Su Wan through the rearview mirror with a half-smile. "On a date."
Su Wan shivered at his gaze and those two words, feeling a chill run down her back.
Unable to contain her curiosity, Yao Ye asked further, "A date? With a girlfriend?"
Fu Weiheng replied lightly with an "Mm."
Yao Ye was shocked and silently gasped as she tugged at Su Wan's sleeve.
Su Wan held her hand and awkwardly smiled while looking out the window in silence.
After arriving at school, Su Wan took Yao Ye's luggage and accompanied her to the front of the dormitory building. She then casually mentioned that she needed to make a trip to the convenience store and told Yao Ye to head back to the dormitory first.
Yao Ye didn't think much of it and asked her to bring back some snacks. Su Wan nodded eagerly in agreement, and Yao Ye went inside the dormitory building with her suitcase.
Seeing Yao Ye's figure already heading upstairs, Su Wan finally felt relieved and walked briskly towards the parking lot.
Fu Weiheng was standing by the car door, tall and elegant, quietly watching the graceful figure approaching from afar.
She stood in front of him, head down and chest slightly bowed, saying, "Thank you, Fu Weiheng..."
Fu Weiheng remained silent.
She looked up to meet his gaze and hesitantly spoke, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to not say anything..."
"Come here," he said softly, interrupting her with a gentle tone.
Su Wan took a small step forward. "I just didn't know how to start..." She cautiously tugged at his sleeve. "Are you angry?"
Fu Weiheng raised his hand to caress her cheek, gently stroking it with his fingertips, his eyes filled with tenderness.
Finally, he slowly said, "Others don't matter; as long as you're by my side."
Su Wan's eyes flickered, and she felt a twinge in her nose. Remembering their first kiss in the elevator just moments ago made her heart race as she swallowed hard. She stood on her toes, mustered her courage, and lightly kissed his lips before shyly saying, "I... I still have things to do. See you tomorrow." Then she turned and ran toward the dormitory building.
Fu Weiheng stood there in a daze, watching her retreating figure with a bemused smile.
No rush; there will be plenty of time in the future.
Meanwhile, when Su Wan returned to the dormitory with her things, Yao Ye was outside on the balcony doing laundry, while Xu Chengyang had already come back and was sitting motionless in a chair.
Yao Ye heard the noise and wiped her hands as she walked in, taking the bag from Su Wan's hands. "What delicious food did you bring me?"
"Rice balls," Su Wan glanced at Xu Chengyang. "What's wrong with Xu Chengyang?"
Yao Ye opened the packaging and took a bite, mumbling, "She said she's brewing feelings, just ignore her."
"Oh..." Su Wan replied.
Yao Ye took a sip of juice and casually mentioned, "Guan Guan, I really didn't expect Deity to have a girlfriend!"
"Who? Who are you talking about?" Xu Chengyang's mind raced, his face suddenly changing.
"Deity," Yao Ye repeated.
"What?" Xu Chengyang was shocked, jumping up from his chair and standing in front of Yao Ye. "You mean Fu Wei Hang has a girlfriend? No way!"
Yao Ye leisurely explained, "This afternoon, Guan Guan came to pick me up at the station, and we happened to run into Deity. He gave us a ride back, and while we were in the car, we asked him where he was coming from. He said he was on a date with his girlfriend." She then turned her gaze to Su Wan, who was changing clothes. "If you don't believe me, ask Guan Guan; she heard it too."
Su Wan felt Xu Chengyang's questioning gaze on her and nervously chuckled without saying anything.
Yao Ye continued munching on the rice ball, lamenting, "I thought that little spark between Guan Guan and Deity meant he liked her!"
"Damn! I thought so too!" Xu Chengyang chimed in, taking a step closer to Su Wan and gesturing from top to bottom. "Look at this face, this figure; she's a perfect Flower of the Orchestra Department. How could Deity not be interested?"
Yao Ye asked again, "Guan Guan, do you like Deity?"
Su Wan felt overwhelmed by their questions and uncomfortable all over. Remembering Fu Weiheng's bold confession earlier, she gritted her teeth and answered, "I do..."
Both of them were taken aback by her honesty. Yao Ye quickly reassured her, "Uh... Guan Guan, it's okay. There might be even better men than Deity in the future!"
Xu Chengyang sighed again. "...Our Guan Guan finally likes someone, but it turns out there's no chance."
Su Wan smiled, "There's a chance, there's a chance."
Yao Ye and Xu Chengyang looked at each other, confused.
"The girlfriend that Fu Weiheng mentioned," Su Wan said, lowering her head shyly, "is me."
Yao Ye was speechless.
Xu Chengyang was also at a loss for words.
That night, Fu Weiheng returned to his private apartment. After taking a shower, he was preparing to get back to work when an unexpected guest arrived.
Jiang Zhi Yan lazily tossed his coat onto the sofa and collapsed onto the lazy chair. The first thing he said upon entering was, "I'm in a bad mood. Do you have any alcohol?"
Fu Weiheng glanced at him indifferently and returned to his desk without hesitation, "No."
Ignoring him, Jiang Zhi Yan got up and headed to the kitchen to find some alcohol himself.
Five minutes later, he walked into the study holding a bottle of mineral water, looking frustrated. "What kind of life are you living? With such a big kitchen, there are only a few bottles of mineral water?"
Fu Weiheng continued to read through documents without looking up. "If you want alcohol, go find Ivan. Don't let the door hit you on the way out."
Jiang Zhi Yan was used to his temperament and wasn't angry. He sighed and sat back down on the sofa. After a long silence, he casually said, "Neil, I really didn't expect that I have a cousin who has been lost for so long."
Recalling events from years ago, Jiang Zhi Yan immediately began to investigate his aunt's past in Yan Chuan from over a decade ago, including Su Wan's background. However, when he learned that Su Wan's father had passed away from liver cancer six years ago, he felt not only sorrow and shock but also guilt.
After hanging up the phone at that time, he had indeed kept that promise in mind. It was just that his aunt never returned that night, and her phone was turned off. The next morning, a friend invited him to go surfing in Hawaii on short notice; he ended up going for a week without returning to London or seeing his aunt. As time dragged on and the new semester began with busy studies, he gradually forgot about it.
Until today.
No wonder, no wonder every time he saw Su Wan, there was an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
Her always indifferent expression was strikingly similar to that of his aunt.
Jiang Zhi Yan shamefully covered his eyes and smiled self-deprecatingly, "But I think my cousin must hate me to death."
He could feel the despair she had at that time, that powerless plea of "Please, ask her to meet my father, please," still lingering in his mind. It was he who had given her the last glimmer of hope, and at the same time, he had ruthlessly extinguished that inch of dawn.
"Back then, she asked me to help convey something very important. I promised her wholeheartedly, but in the end, I completely forgot about it while having fun."
Jiang Zhi Yan was filled with regret; he could empathize with that feeling—the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.
If only he had made a few more calls to his aunt back then.
Fu Weiheng paused his fingers on the page, quietly listening without saying a word.
Jiang Zhi Yan straightened up and seriously looked at Fu Weiheng, asking, "Neil, if it were you, would you forgive me?"
Fu Weiheng tossed aside the document, stood up, and walked straight to the kitchen, his tone lazy: "I wouldn't want a brother like you."
Jiang Zhi Yan: "……"
