After a meal, the four of them had some red wine, and by the end, they were all slightly tipsy.
The private room was heated, and perhaps because of the wine, Su Wan felt a bit suffocated by the warm air. Rubbing her forehead, she got up and left the room to go to the restroom.
After washing her face, the heat on her face subsided significantly. After drying her hands with a tissue, Su Wan pushed open the restroom door.
The corridor was adorned with an elegant floral carpet, and in this lavishly decorated high-end restaurant, it was unique yet sophisticated.
As she stepped onto the soft carpet, her originally audible footsteps became silent.
Su Wan slowly walked to the private room on the right at the corner of the corridor. Just as she was about to reach for the door lock, she heard a sound of a door opening beside her; the door of the adjacent room swung open.
Instinctively, Su Wan glanced over.
The figure of the woman was graceful and serene. She turned to close the door of her private room but paused mid-step when she faced forward.
The bright lights in the corridor clearly illuminated this familiar yet unfamiliar woman. She wore an exquisite Black Long Dress, and her shoulder-length curly hair framed her face. Her features were just as they had been when Su Wan last saw her twenty years ago—little sign of aging, still radiant and full of charm. The previously scattered look in her eyes turned into one of shock as she recognized who stood before her.
Su Wan's memory instantly flashed back to twenty years ago when her mother left without looking back in the rain.
In that moment, Su Wan's heart felt empty.
"Guan Guan, I do not regret my union with your mother. Even though she left me, that does not negate that she was my greatest love."
"Guan Guan, your mother is not at fault; she simply did not love me enough..."
"Guan Guan, she is your mother; do not blame her, do not blame..."
...
The words spoken by her father suddenly echoed in her ears repeatedly. Su Wan stood still in place, her eyes as calm as ever, showing no signs of emotional fluctuation.
The door to the private room was suddenly pulled open, and the sounds of Xu Chengyang's playful banter were particularly clear, snapping Su Wan back to reality.
Fu Weiheng, who came out of the room, noticed Su Wan's vacant expression and seemed to sense something as he looked ahead, momentarily taken aback.
Jiang Yun was also surprised: "Neil?"
Su Wan had been out for a while without returning, and Fu Weiheng, feeling uneasy and worried that she might have drunk too much, decided to come out and check. He did not expect to see such a scene...
He gently closed the door behind him, reached out to pat Su Wan's head, and slightly nodded at Jiang Yun: "Teacher Jiang."
Jiang Yun unconsciously glanced at Su Wan behind him, curious about their relationship. She smiled politely: "Here for dinner?"
Fu Weiheng nodded.
"Jiang Zhiyan is also here. Would you like to go in and say hello?" Jiang Yun gestured vaguely towards the door of the room beside her.
Su Wan watched the two of them exchanging pleasantries and felt no surprise. They were both in the music industry—one a Violinist and the other a Pianist—and both seemed to know Jiang Zhiyan. It was only natural they would recognize each other. However, she internally wished a hundred times not to linger here any longer. So she reached out and somewhat willfully tugged at Fu Weiheng's sleeve, looking up at him and softly saying, "I want to go home."
Fu Weiheng glanced down at her small hand gripping his sleeve and noted her obvious reluctance. Understanding her feelings, he held her hand firmly and smiled at Jiang Yun, politely declining: "It's no trouble, Teacher Jiang. I'll invite you for dinner next time when you have time."
Jiang Yun stared at their tightly clasped hands, momentarily dazed before responding: "Well... that's fine."
"Then we'll take our leave," Fu Weiheng said goodbye, wrapping an arm around Su Wan as they turned to leave.
Jiang Yun stood there in a daze for quite some time, even failing to notice when the door to the private room behind her opened. Jiang Zhiyan followed Jiang Yun's gaze and clearly caught sight of the familiar figures disappearing around the corner.
He furrowed his brow and spoke, "Aunt."
Jiang Yun suddenly came to his senses, feeling a bit awkward. "W-what..."
Jiang Zhi Yan handed over the phone that had been ringing loudly. "Your phone has been ringing for a long time."
---
Fu Weiheng had drunk quite a bit. Although he was aware of his surroundings, he still couldn't drive. While waiting for the elevator, he called for a designated driver.
Su Wan stood silently in front of the elevator doors, staring blankly at the indicator screen, her mind elsewhere.
After hanging up, Fu Weiheng walked over and ruffled her hair gently. "Give me your phone; I'll call your roommate."
Su Wan, looking dazed, took her phone out of her pocket and handed it to him. For convenience, she hadn't brought a bag tonight; her pockets were large enough to hold her phone and wallet comfortably. This saved her from having to return to the private room.
Fu Weiheng took the phone, unlocked it effortlessly, and quickly dialed Xu Chengyang's number from the contacts.
Xu Chengyang and Yao Ye had no intention of being third wheels any longer. Hearing Fu Weiheng say that Su Wan had drunk too much and wasn't feeling well, they waved him off without concern, urging him to take Su Wan home to rest. They assured him they would message once they arrived safely at their dorm.
Fu Weiheng agreed and apologized before hanging up.
The elevator arrived just in time. Fu Weiheng noticed that she still looked rather indifferent and pulled her into the elevator. "Let's go."
Once out of the elevator, the two walked hand in hand at a leisurely pace toward the entrance of the club, where the automatic doors slowly opened with the sensor above.
"Wait—"
Before they could step outside, a clear female voice rang out behind them, accompanied by the crisp sound of high heels echoing in the opulent lobby, creating a stark contrast to the surroundings.
Both of them instinctively turned around, and upon seeing the newcomer, Su Wan froze for a moment, tightening her grip on Fu Weiheng's hand.
Jiang Yun hurriedly walked up to them, her gaze obscure as she looked at Su Wan. After a moment of hesitation, she said, "Guan..." The two words she was about to utter were swallowed back by Su Wan's cold and indifferent eyes. She ultimately changed her words and asked, "Miss Su, can we talk for a moment?"
At this, Su Wan's expression darkened, and just as she was about to refuse, she heard Fu Weiheng calmly say beside her, "I'm going to smoke."
Then he strode away towards the convenience store next door, leaving Su Wan in a daze.
Su Wan: "..."
"Guan Guan..."
Su Wan frowned, her delicate voice carrying no emotion other than indifference. "Call me Su Wan."
Jiang Yun was taken aback and weakly tugged at the corners of her mouth. "How have you been these past few years?"
Su Wan did not look at her and replied flatly, "As you can see, very well."
Jiang Yun felt foolish for trying but still felt guilty towards the daughter she had abandoned for many years. She forced a bitter smile but did not react too strongly. She asked, "Are you dating Neil? Neil is a good man; I can see that he loves you..." She paused before continuing, "Guan Guan, about your father... I..."
"That's enough."
Su Wan felt that merely standing here calmly talking to her had drained all her patience.
She could not understand why this woman, who had once abandoned her and her father, was now bringing up her father at this moment.
"I don't hate you." After a long pause, Su Wan finally spoke.
Jiang Yun's eyes lit up with joy as she was about to respond when Su Wan continued in a calm and indifferent tone, "But I also don't want to forgive you."
The surprise in Jiang Yun's eyes lasted only a second before it was replaced by a sense of gloom as the person in front of her turned and walked away, leaving her feeling desolate for a long time.
Suddenly, she felt an intense hatred for herself.
As she turned to head back to the restaurant, she noticed Jiang Zhi Yan standing behind her, having appeared there without her noticing. Jiang Yun was momentarily stunned and found herself at a loss for words.
“Aunt, I know everything,” Jiang Zhi Yan said slowly after a pause. “You went to the cemetery this morning to visit Su Wan's father, right?”
After a moment, he added, “Years ago, Su Wan called you…”
“Jiang Lawyer?”
Before Jiang Yun could process Jiang Zhi Yan's words, a surprised female voice suddenly came from behind him.
Jiang Zhi Yan turned around to see two girls with slightly flushed faces. Her memory flickered for a moment before she recalled that they were Su Wan's roommates.
“Hello,” Jiang Zhi Yan greeted them with a faint smile.
“Hello, hello,” Xu Chengyang replied, somewhat surprised to see Jiang Zhi Yan there. She then said with a smile, “Guan Guan and Deity came down earlier than us; didn’t you run into them?”
Jiang Zhi Yan smiled calmly. “No, they probably left in a hurry.”
Xu Chengyang nodded thoughtfully, her gaze shifting to the middle-aged woman behind Jiang Zhi Yan. She then pulled Yao Ye and prepared to take their leave. “We won’t disturb you any longer; we’ll be going now. Bye-bye.”
Yao Ye waved. “Goodbye, Jiang Lawyer.”
Jiang Zhi Yan replied, “Take care on your way.”
The two girls linked arms and exited through the door. After a moment, Yao Ye suddenly tugged at Xu Chengyang's sleeve and frowned as she asked, “Did you think that woman next to Jiang Lawyer looked familiar?”
Xu Chengyang exclaimed, "You noticed too? I thought he looked familiar at first glance, but I just couldn't remember who he was."
Yao Ye interrupted, hailing a taxi without hesitation, "With that pig brain of yours, what else can you think about besides men?"
Xu Chengyang replied, "……That makes sense."
---
After leaving the club, Su Wan felt the tension in her mind release all at once. She took a deep breath and followed the direction Fu Weiheng had just left.
Before long, she spotted a familiar figure leaning against a utility pole about five meters away.
He stood tall and elegant, casually leaning against the pole. His khaki cashmere coat was open, revealing a blue turtleneck sweater underneath. His strikingly handsome face was partially hidden by the high collar, exposing only his deep, dark eyes.
Su Wan glanced at the box of Su Yan he was fiddling with, then jogged over to snatch it from him. She leaned in to sniff it and looked up at him with sharp eyes, questioning, "Did you really smoke?"
Fu Weiheng chuckled in surprise, pulling her into his embrace as he opened his coat wider and rubbed his chin against her hair, saying, "Who would dare?"
Su Wan poked him and asked, "Then why did you buy cigarettes?"
He replied nonchalantly, "Just for fun."
Su Wan was speechless.
After a moment, Fu Weiheng straightened up and led her toward the Cayenne. "I called for a designated driver; they should be here soon."
Su Wan stared at his profile for a long time before noticing his slightly flushed cheeks from drinking. She tugged at his sleeve and softly asked, "Neil, don't you have anything you want to ask me?"
He paused for a moment before reaching the back door of the Cayenne and opening it for her. His tone was gentle as he said, "Let's go home first."
Su Wan sat down readily, and Fu Weiheng followed closely behind her.
Five minutes later, the driver hurriedly arrived, took the keys from Fu Weiheng, and drove smoothly towards the apartment.
Once home, Fu Weiheng was not in a hurry. He walked to the bedroom, turned on the light, took off his coat, and calmly said to Su Wan, "Go take a shower first."
"Oh..."
After Su Wan entered the bathroom, Fu Weiheng leisurely took off all his clothes and went to the outside bathroom to shower.
About fifteen minutes later, when Su Wan emerged from the bathroom wrapped in steam, she saw a striking man standing in front of the wardrobe.
Fu Weiheng had just showered as well; at that moment, he hadn't put on a shirt yet and was only wearing loose sweatpants. His hair was still slightly damp with droplets of water. His exposed body was tall and slender, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. His strong chest and well-defined lines led down to his flat abdomen...
Down...
Su Wan unconsciously swallowed hard. Her head felt hot as if blood rushed from her toes to her head, making her feel like she might burst out with a nosebleed at any second.
She instinctively covered her nose and averted her gaze as she walked toward the bedside, muttering to herself, "Disaster should not be gazed upon... disaster should not be gazed upon..."
Fu Weiheng: "..."
Fu Weiheng left on a bedside lamp and lay down on the bed, pulling back the covers. He stretched out one hand, gesturing for Su Wan in the corner to come over.
Su Wan's face flushed red. She shifted her position and obediently nestled into his arms, speaking firmly, "You can ask now."
Fu Weiheng adjusted his position slightly, lying on his side to meet her gaze. He brushed aside the hair that had fallen by her ear and softly asked, "Do you want to say something? Hmm?"
"Um..." Su Wan felt a tickling sensation in her ears from his gentle movements, instinctively shrinking her head back. After a long pause, she finally spoke, "Neil, she is my mother."
"Mm." He placed his hand on her waist, signaling her to continue.
Su Wan lowered her gaze, her tone darkening slightly. "You know her; I've mentioned her to you before. You must know she has a husband and a son now."
"Mm."
She sighed. "Do you know? A month before my father passed away, I called her, hoping she would come back to see him... but in the end, all I got was her attending my father's funeral."
"My father always told me it wasn't her fault, that everything was just because there wasn't enough love... and that I shouldn't blame her..." Her shoulders began to tremble as she choked back tears. "Neil, I don't hate her, but I can't forgive her, nor do I want to forgive her."
She sniffed and leaned into his embrace, asking softly, "Neil, am I a bad person?"
Fu Weiheng pulled her closer into his arms. He leaned down and kissed the tears at the corners of her eyes. His rich voice sounded deeper in the night but was gentler than anything else.
He said, "No matter how bad you are, I will always accept you."
