The next day, Saturday, due to Qin Mu's arrival, the tutoring session at Ye Fan's house had to be postponed. Before going to bed, she mentioned it to Fu Weijin in advance. Upon hearing that Su Wan's cousin was coming to visit, he was particularly hospitable and immediately agreed to host her for dinner that night without giving her a chance to refuse.
Su Wan, unable to resist his enthusiasm, agreed.
Fu Weiheng had to work overtime unexpectedly that day. When he got up, Su Wan was still asleep, so he moved a bit more quietly while getting dressed.
When he finished washing up and came out of the bathroom, he saw Su Wan lying flat on the bed with her big round eyes wide open, staring blankly at the ceiling.
He was taken aback, finding her in that state incredibly cute. He walked over, leaned down, and couldn't help but pinch her cheek, then lowered his head to kiss her.
However, Su Wan quickly covered her mouth with her hand and mumbled in a groggy voice, "Mmm... I haven't brushed my teeth yet..."
Fu Weiheng simply lifted her hand away from her lips and kissed her again, not releasing her for quite some time.
He brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and smiled, "Have I kissed you less?"
Early in the morning, Su Wan felt her face heat up from his unexpected teasing: "..."
Feeling pleased after taking advantage of her, Mr. Fu changed into a dark shirt and prepared to leave.
Just as he reached the entrance, he suddenly remembered something and turned back to the bathroom where Su Wan was brushing her teeth. He seriously reminded her, "Drive carefully; safety comes first."
Su Wan nodded with the toothbrush in her mouth.
"Don't drive too fast."
She nodded again.
"Just drive your own way."
She nodded as usual.
Fu Weiheng looked at her nodding vigorously, but felt increasingly uneasy. He took out his phone to make a call: "I'll have Old Yu come pick you up."
"..." Su Wan quickly spat out the foam in her mouth and raised her hand to stop him, "No need, I can really manage... I’m afraid Mu Mu will feel uncomfortable with more people."
Fu Weiheng pondered for a moment. Hearing her say this, he didn't insist any further. After all, Su Wan always knew her limits. He nodded in agreement: "If anything happens, call me immediately."
Su Wan replied, "Okay."
When they arrived at the train station, it was almost noon. Su Wan found a relatively secluded parking spot and hurried to the exit to meet someone.
It was noon, and the sun was blazing down, making the temperature even hotter. Su Wan stood outside the bustling train station for just five minutes and was already drenched in sweat.
Fortunately, Qin Mu came out shortly after, wearing a short-sleeved shirt and hot pants, carrying a backpack and sporting a baseball cap that gave her a youthful look. Upon spotting Su Wan from afar, she disregarded the crowded people and ran over with her suitcase.
It was unbearably hot outside. After exchanging a few simple greetings, Su Wan led her towards the parking lot.
When they reached the Cayenne, Qin Mu suddenly exclaimed in shock, "Sister! You’re driving? And it’s a Cayenne?"
Su Wan opened the trunk to stow away her suitcase: "...Yeah, Fu Weiheng has to work overtime today, so I borrowed his car..."
Once in the passenger seat, Qin Mu looked at the luxurious interior of the car and glanced at Su Wan in the driver's seat, feeling a bit uncertain: "Sister, are you... okay with this?"
Su Wan replied calmly, "Yeah."
Qin Mu: "..." A sense of fear suddenly arose, what was going on...
The car drove steadily down the road, Su Wan focused on the traffic, skillfully steering the wheel.
Qin Mu was originally afraid that Su Wan would be distracted while driving, so he didn't dare to speak up. After a moment of silence, he couldn't hold back any longer and said to himself, "Sister, just listen to me, otherwise it's so boring..."
Su Wan smiled, "Hmm."
"My college entrance exam results are out, and in a few days I need to fill out my application choices, but I have no idea what to choose." She fiddled with her fingers and turned her head to look at Su Wan, "You're a music student with specific majors to choose from, but I have no clue what to pick with my mixed interests..."
"Which places are you considering?" Su Wan casually asked.
Qin Mu replied without hesitation, "Either Yishi locally or Yan Chuan, or maybe the neighboring city. I don't want to go too far from home; there are only my parents at home. If I go too far, they'll feel lonely."
"Mm, that's thoughtful." Su Wan was somewhat surprised. Usually carefree Qin Mu actually had her own thoughts. Then she asked, "Didn't your cousin say he wasn't going back to America?"
Qin Mu: "He's not going back, but I heard him say he's coming to Yan Chuan at the end of August. It seems like he's planning to set up a branch office in Yan Chuan."
Su Wan: "So... you want to study in Yan Chuan?"
Qin Mu grinned: "Hehe, a bit, because you're there too."
At the intersection, Su Wan steadily stopped the car and shifted into neutral: "That's good. Yan Chuan has plenty of good universities; you can think about it carefully."
After a while, Qin Mu pointed at the green traffic light and continued, "Actually, I really want to study medicine... and I'm good at science. But looking at last year's score lines, it seems like my grades might not be enough for Yan Chuan Medical University..."
Su Wan shifted gears and drove on, turning right while keeping her eyes fixed ahead. Just as she was about to respond to Qin Mu, a little boy suddenly dashed out from the left side. Su Wan was caught off guard and quickly jerked the steering wheel to the right. However, the situation happened too suddenly; she couldn't control the brake and steering properly, causing the Cayenne's front end to crash directly into a nearby utility pole with a loud bang.
The car jolted violently from the impact, and both passengers instinctively lurched forward, momentarily stunned.
The little boy who had dashed into the street was pulled aside by his mother, a young woman who was gripping the boy's ear and shouting, "You little brat! Didn't I tell you not to run around? Where were your ears? You almost got hit by a car, do you know that?"
The young woman then turned to look at the damaged front of the car, her expression frozen and her heart racing.
Ultimately, this accident was her son's fault, and she would likely have to bear all the consequences. This car looked extremely expensive, and with just her husband's monthly salary, how could she possibly afford to compensate for the damages?
She glanced at the two frail-looking girls in the driver's seat and began calculating in her mind as she walked over.
Su Wan felt dizzy from the powerful impact and took a while to regain her senses. When she finally did, she noticed Qin Mu slumped forward in the passenger seat, motionless. Panic set in as she hurriedly reached out to shake her, nearly in tears. "Mu Mu! Mu Mu..."
"Oh my God..." Qin Mu raised her hand to rub her forehead, finally responding. "That knocked me out."
Su Wan's heart, which had been lodged in her throat, finally settled down.
She let out a sigh of relief but hadn’t yet processed everything that had happened when suddenly there was a loud bang on the car window, shaking the door with force.
Startled, Su Wan turned to see a young woman standing outside. Her face was caked with thick white foundation, and combined with her tense expression, she looked particularly fierce.
Su Wan opened the car door and was about to speak when the woman began shouting at the top of her lungs, "How do you drive? Look at how scared my child is! Do you even know how to drive?"
Su Wan glanced over; the little boy who had suddenly run into the street was now squatting in front of her car, crying with snot running down his face and gasping for breath.
Furrowing her brows, she apologized, "I'm sorry; I didn't react in time."
"What good does 'I'm sorry' do?" The young woman felt she had the upper hand now and became even more arrogant. "Look at what you've done to my son!"
At that moment, Qin Mu happened to get out of the car and heard the woman's tone. She felt it was unreasonable and quickly retorted, "Your son ran the red light first!"
The young woman felt a bit guilty from Qin Mu's words but maintained her composure as she shouted back, "He's just a child! How much can a child understand? If you drove properly, would this have happened?"
At that moment, more passersby gathered around, and a clamor of discussions erupted.
Qin Mu glanced at the crowd that had surged around them, feeling frustrated and wanting to argue, but was stopped by Su Wan. After thinking for a moment, she suggested in a very nice tone, "Can I take you to the hospital for an examination? I will cover the medical expenses."
Hearing Su Wan say she would take responsibility, the Young Woman's expression softened a bit. She hugged her child and lowered her voice, saying, "There's no need for an examination. Just give me a few thousand as compensation for emotional distress."
Su Wan was taken aback; if she didn't understand what the Young Woman meant at this point, she would truly be foolish.
She had clearly seen the green light before stepping on the gas. When coming through the intersection, the pedestrian signal was still red. It was obviously her son who had run the red light first, leading to their accident. Su Wan wasn't pursuing her responsibility, yet the Young Woman was already demanding compensation from her.
Su Wan forced a smile that was quite ironic.
"How about this? You take your son with me to the hospital for an examination and see what the doctor says. If you're not satisfied, we can call the police. Does that work?" Su Wan patiently discussed this with her.
The Young Woman felt a bit less confident upon hearing about calling the police but didn't want to back down either. She knew very well that her son had no injuries at all; he was crying because she had just scolded him for misbehaving. She was clearly trying to extort money from these two weak girls, but she hadn't expected things to escalate like this. However, if she just walked away now, wouldn't that mean she lost out?
After calculating in her mind again, she suddenly raised her voice and shouted, "You just hit someone and don't want to take responsibility!"
Qin Mu found it increasingly absurd and angrily retorted, "Can you speak properly? Did we hit you? It’s our car that got damaged!"
The Young Woman couldn't find a counterargument and directly sat down by the Cayenne's door while holding her child, crying out loudly, "You rich people just bully us poor folks! You hit someone and still don't want to take responsibility!"
At this point, Su Wan was completely at a loss for words. She truly didn't expect there could be such shameless people in this world.
Feeling helpless, she walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and took out her phone to call Fu Weiheng.
Meanwhile, Fu Weiheng was in a conference room holding an impromptu meeting with company executives.
As Xiao Zhang from the Public Relations Department was preparing to present his latest promotional plan, a sudden and jarring sound of a vibrating phone broke the silence in the large conference room.
Everyone turned their heads toward the source of the noise. Fu Weiheng raised his hand to grab his phone from the table, saw the incoming call on the screen, stood up, apologized in a low voice, and walked over to the window to take the call.
Once he answered, a sharp cry came through on the other end. Furrowing his brow, he sensed something was wrong and asked, "Guan Guan, what happened?"
The noise was too loud. Su Wan walked to the back of the Cayenne and covered one ear, hesitating before speaking, "Neil, are you free right now? Something... has come up."
...
After hanging up, Fu Weiheng turned around. The executives who had been whispering at the conference table immediately fell silent, waiting for their boss to continue the meeting.
However, Fu Weiheng reopened his phone, dialed another number, and said, "Let's wrap up today's meeting here. All departments must submit a complete plan to me by next Monday," before hurriedly leaving the conference room.
The remaining people in the room exchanged confused glances.
Once outside the conference room, Fu Weiheng's phone connected just in time. He strode toward the elevator while instructing on the phone, "Zhang Lin, drive to the company gate and wait for me. Also, call Officer Shen and have him go immediately to the intersection at Yangze North Road."
Zhang Lin on the other end was taken aback. Officer Shen? What happened?
Though curious, Zhang Lin didn't dare to ask further and readily replied, "Got it."
---
By the time Fu Weiheng arrived twenty minutes later, Su Wan's situation was extremely chaotic.
The young woman knew that Su Wan had called for help and didn't want to be outdone; she called her husband over as well. The two were now working together to convince unsuspecting passersby.
Qin Mu was infuriated and wanted to argue but found himself unable to counter their nonsense. He simply threw up his hands and leaned against the back of the Cayenne with Su Wan while waiting for Fu Weiheng to arrive.
After getting out of the car, Fu Weiheng immediately spotted Su Wan and Qin Mu standing at the back of the vehicle, and his heart instantly relaxed.
Qin Mu was the first to see Fu Weiheng and immediately tugged at Su Wan's sleeve as if he had seen a savior. "Sister! Brother-in-law is here!"
Su Wan followed Qin Mu's gaze.
He was wearing a dark shirt, impeccably buttoned up, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Despite the high temperature, he seemed unaffected, looking as composed and handsome as ever. He walked over confidently, standing out among the crowd like a crane among chickens.
The moment she saw him, Su Wan's previously restless mood calmed significantly.
Qin Mu greeted him from a distance. "Brother-in-law!"
Fu Weiheng nodded slightly and walked directly to her. He raised his hand to brush away the hair stuck to her temples from sweat and patiently asked, "Are you feeling okay?"
"I'm fine," Su Wan quickly waved her hand in response, then pointed to the still restless crowd ahead, frowning in concern. "They... are quite troublesome."
To her surprise, Fu Weiheng didn't even glance at them. Instead, he reached out to wipe the sweat from her forehead and said in a steady voice, "As long as you're okay, everything else isn't a problem."
