Qi Feng walked over to the old lady. He looked into her eyes, which were glistening with tears, and felt a surge of complex emotions. In disbelief, he asked, "Grandma, are you saying this woman is Ellie? Is she really my mother?"
The old lady nodded. Her voice was heavy with sorrow as she said, "Yes, child, she is Ellie, my daughter. She is your mother." The sadness in her tone deepened as she turned her gaze to Lin Xue and gently said, "Child, isn’t it destined that you and Qi Feng are connected? He lost his mother at a young age and has been searching for his roots, while you happen to be a friend of his mother..."
Listening to the old lady's words, Lin Xue was filled with shock. She never expected that the mother Qi Feng had been searching for was the daughter of the old lady standing before her, and that she herself had a connection to this woman. It seemed like a fate orchestrated by the universe. She looked at Qi Feng, whose eyes were filled with complicated emotions. She could sense his excitement, his sadness, and his longing for his mother. She gently patted his hand and comforted him, saying, "Qi Feng, don’t be sad. We will definitely find your mother."
Qi Feng looked at Lin Xue, gratitude shining in his eyes. He said, "Thank you, Lin Xue. You are the only one who understands how I feel." Lin Xue nodded; she knew the pain in Qi Feng's heart and wanted to help him find his mother.
The old lady watched the two of them and smiled with relief. She said, "Children, you don’t need to worry. I will help you find Ellie. I will tell you her story and help you find the answers."
The old lady began to recount the story of her daughter Ellie and Qi Feng's father. She spoke of their meeting and falling in love, of painting together and traveling together, of crossing borders and cultures for love. Lin Xue listened quietly, captivated by the old lady's emotional storytelling. It was as if she could see Ellie and Qi Feng's father living their lives together, witnessing their love and their dreams for the future. She understood more deeply Qi Feng's longing for his mother and his determination to find her.
"Ellie and Qi Feng's father fell in love; they wanted to live a happy life together and start a family. However..." The old lady's voice choked up again at this point as she wiped away tears from her eyes and continued, "The mother of Qi Feng's father strongly opposed their union. She believed Ellie came from humble beginnings and was unworthy of her son; she did not want her son to marry a foreign woman. For love and their happiness, they chose to elope, wanting to escape societal judgment and create a life of their own."
As Qi Feng listened to the old lady's account, he finally learned how his parents met and fell in love. Hearing that they eloped for love filled him with admiration for them; he understood their feelings better now and appreciated their love for him even more.
The old lady continued telling the story of Ellie and Qi Feng's life after eloping. She described how they lived simply yet happily far from home, creating art together, welcoming new life together, and experiencing the warmth of love and family ties. The old lady mentioned that Ellie had promised to return home with her child one day—to the snowy mountains they loved most—the place where they chased their dreams together.
"But..." The old lady's voice grew somber again as regret filled her tone. She continued, "They never returned; they lost contact with each other and never reached out again. I never saw my daughter again; my husband has also passed away. We all thought Ellie had left us forever."
Listening to the old lady's words filled Qi Feng with confusion. He couldn't understand why his mother had suddenly disappeared or why there had been no news from her or any contact at all. He wanted to find his mother; he wanted to know the truth behind her disappearance—he wanted to know where she was.
Lin Xue looked at Qi Feng, feeling his pain. She decided to help him find his mother and unravel the mystery. She gently held Qi Feng's hand and said, "Qi Feng, don't worry. We will definitely find your mother. You still have us, and we will always be by your side."
Qi Feng looked at Lin Xue, his eyes filled with gratitude. He nodded lightly, believing that they would find his mother and that Lin Xue would be with him to seek the answers together.
