I turned my head and saw it was my court companion, Zhao Baoru. She is the daughter of the Minister of Personnel and also my desk mate. We have studied together since childhood, only parting ways after reaching adulthood.
"What are you going on about now?" I frowned.
Zhao Baoru said angrily, "How dare you order Feng Yu to go buy snacks for you?"
I was taken aback. "What do you mean?"
"Don't play dumb! I just saw you send Feng Yu outside the palace to buy snacks for you!"
Zhao Baoru grew more agitated. " Cai Moyu, how can you be so malicious?"
I was confused. "How am I malicious?"
"You use your power to bully Feng Yu, making him your servant. Isn't that malicious?"
My friends immediately got angry.
"Zhao Baoru, watch your words!"
"Exactly! Feng Yu willingly buys food for Mo Yu; what business is it of yours?"
"Besides, even if Feng Yu is Mo Yu's servant, what does it have to do with you? How dare you interfere in their affairs?"
Zhao Baoru sneered, "It may not concern me, but I can't stand her bullying behavior!"
"Feng Yu comes from a poor background and has survived by hunting since childhood. His achievements today are all hard-earned!"
"And what about Cai Moyu? She merely had a good start in life and tramples on others' efforts—why should she get away with it?"
"Just because she thinks she's a Young Lady, she can do whatever she wants?"
"I'll tell you this: Feng Yu has never acknowledged himself as Cai Moyu's servant; it's all just Cai Moyu's delusion!"
My friends were infuriated by Zhao Baoru's words and began to retort. I couldn't help but laugh. No wonder Zhao Baoru cared so much about Feng Yu; it turned out she had been secretly in love with him all along. Unfortunately, Feng Yu was destined to be an unreachable dream for her.
"What are you laughing at?" Zhao Baoru frowned.
I shook my head, "It's nothing."
"Since it's nothing, then explain it to me clearly!"
Zhao Baoru pressed on, "Why are you ordering Feng Yu around?"
I raised an eyebrow, "What I do with him has nothing to do with you."
"Of course it does!"
Zhao Baoru stated firmly, "This is the palace, a sacred and solemn place. How can you act so arrogantly here?"
"Don't forget, Feng Yu is a royal guard; he is here to protect the emperor, not to be your servant!"
"If you dare to act tyrannically in the palace, I will tell the emperor and have him punish you!"
The surrounding palace attendants gathered around, whispering among themselves.
"So she is Cai Moyu; I've heard of her reputation."
"Yes, I heard she has a bad temper and a wicked heart. I didn't expect her to even dare to order around the royal guards."
"She really is incredibly bold!"
I glanced around and suddenly spoke up, "Feng Yu, why have you been gone for so long?"
Everyone was taken aback and turned to follow my gaze.
Feng Yu was making his way through the crowd towards us.
He was holding a food box containing a plate of exquisite pastries.
He stopped in front of me, opened the food box, and handed me chopsticks.
Throughout the entire process, he didn't even glance at Zhao Baoru, as if she didn't exist.
Zhao Baoru's face instantly turned pale, her body trembling slightly.
I deliberately said, "Feng Yu, did you hear what Zhao Baoru said?"
Feng Yu looked at me but remained silent.
I curled the corners of my lips and continued, "She said you are a royal guard and cannot serve me like a horse, telling me not to give you orders."
Feng Yu was silent for a moment before calmly saying, "I have nothing to do with her."
As soon as these words were spoken, a low murmur arose around us.
Zhao Baoru's face turned even paler, her eyes filled with embarrassment and shame.
I blinked and asked, "But don't you think I'm being unreasonable?"
"Not unreasonable."
Feng Yu's voice remained flat. "You can do whatever you want."
My heart suddenly raced, and I felt a faint heat rising to my ears.
I lowered my gaze and coughed lightly to cover it up. "Then can you help me change out of my Palace Attire?"
Feng Yu fell silent again.
