"What are you doing here?" The security guard saw Zhao Chuqiao and Li Mian, his face showing a wary expression and his tone filled with hostility.
Zhao Chuqiao and Li Mian exchanged glances, and Li Mian stepped forward, smiling as he said, "Hello, we are police officers here to investigate a case. Could you please provide the surveillance footage from the community?"
The guard's expression darkened further. He coldly snorted and said, "There is no surveillance here. You can leave."
"No surveillance? That's impossible." Zhao Chuqiao furrowed her brows; she had learned from nearby residents that the community's surveillance system was quite comprehensive and could not possibly be nonexistent.
"How is it impossible? Do you think I'm lying to you?" The guard raised his voice, glaring at Zhao Chuqiao with a threatening look in his eyes.
Zhao Chuqiao ignored the guard's threat. She turned to Li Mian and whispered, "Let's go inside and take a look. If there really is no surveillance, that would be even stranger."
Li Mian nodded; he could sense the deliberate concealment in the guard's words. Once they entered the community, they began their investigation.
"Who are you? Why are you taking pictures here?" A woman in red shouted loudly when she saw Zhao Chuqiao taking photos with her phone.
"Auntie, we are police officers investigating a case. Please cooperate with us," Zhao Chuqiao said in a calm tone.
"What case? Nonsense! Stop causing trouble here and leave!" The woman's attitude was very firm as she turned to walk away.
"We just want to ask if you've seen..." Zhao Chuqiao tried to continue questioning but was interrupted by the woman's angry shout.
"Don't talk to me! I haven't seen anything!" The woman stormed into the hallway.
Li Mian shook his head and said softly, "It seems like the people in this community are very unfriendly. We need to find another way."
Zhao Chuqiao remained silent, taking a deep breath as she continued walking forward.

Following the direction of the woman's angry shout, Zhao Chuqiao spotted a half-open door with a "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging on it. She hesitated for a moment before gently knocking on the door.
"Who is it?" A hoarse voice came from inside the door.
"We're police officers and would like to ask you some questions," Zhao Chuqiao said gently.
"Police? What is it about?" The voice inside carried a hint of caution.
"How long have you lived here? We want to ask you a few things!" Zhao Chuqiao tried to maintain a calm tone as she asked.
"This has nothing to do with you; I don't know anything!" The voice inside became sharper, but there was a moment of hesitation after speaking.
Zhao Chuqiao furrowed her brow, sensing something was off. She exchanged a glance with Li Mian.
"We just want to understand some situations; we won't take up too much of your time," Zhao Chuqiao said again.
There was silence for a moment, then the door slowly opened, revealing a frail woman standing at the entrance. The woman's face was expressionless, and her eyes appeared very vacant.
"Is there something you need?" the woman asked coldly.
"Would you mind letting us in? We would like to ask you some questions," Zhao Chuqiao said in a calm tone.
The woman did not respond verbally; she simply stepped aside silently, allowing Zhao Chuqiao and Li Mian to enter the room.
Inside, the room was filled with a strange odor, reminiscent of rotting fruit mixed with stale mold, making one feel nauseous.
Zhao Chuqiao frowned and covered her nose with her hand as she looked around. The room was in complete disarray, with furniture toppled over and various items scattered across the floor, giving the impression that it had been ravaged by a hurricane.
The air was thick with the smell of dust, as if no one had lived there for a long time.
Li Mian walked to the window, pulled back the curtains, and the glaring sunlight streamed in, making the dust in the room more apparent.
He gently tapped the windowsill with his hand and found it covered in a thick layer of dust, clearly untouched for a long time.
"Look here," Zhao Chuqiao said softly, pointing to a pile of clutter in the corner of the room.
Li Mian approached and discovered a jumble of clothes among the clutter, including a white dress stained with some blood, appearing as if it had been deliberately torn.
"This might be related to the case," Li Mian murmured.
Zhao Chuqiao crouched down to examine the clothes closely and noticed a tool mixed in that was stained with dirt, looking like something used for prying open doors or digging.
Li Mian frowned and said quietly, "It seems the murderer had entered the room and might have carried out some actions here."
Zhao Chuqiao nodded, her keen instincts telling her that there seemed to be hidden secrets in the room. She began to search every corner of the room carefully, hoping to find more clues.
"Wait, look here!" Zhao Chuqiao exclaimed excitedly, pointing to an inconspicuous corner by the bed. Li Mian followed her finger and discovered a concealed compartment in the corner, which contained a dusty iron box.
