I lit the candle. Just then, the doorbell rang. I walked over and looked through the peephole, seeing Ma Gang. He was holding a bouquet of roses, standing at the door. He had tanned a bit, but his smile was charming. I opened the door, and Ma Gang smiled, saying, "Happy Birthday." I took the roses, and all my grievances surged to my heart: "I thought you weren't coming back." Ma Gang hugged me, saying, "Silly, I promised to celebrate your birthday." I nestled in his arms, feeling a mix of emotions. On one hand, I felt happy; on the other hand, I felt wronged. I wanted to push him away, but my hands disobeyed me and slowly wrapped around him instead. Ma Gang was right; I did want to be close to him. However, when he embraced me, a sense of resistance rose within me. I struggled. Ma Gang noticed and let go of me, looking at me and asking, "What's wrong?" I shook my head and replied, "Nothing." Ma Gang continued: "I went into the mountains with a few comrades. There was an aftershock, and we got trapped up there. We had no electricity, no water, and no signal. We lost contact with our team; one comrade..." He paused, his Adam's apple bobbing.
"There was a comrade who, during the rescue, was trapped because of an aftershock... was..."
His eyes turned red, and he couldn't continue.
I was stunned.
It turned out that he didn't choose not to come back; he was trapped.
I actually blamed him.
Ma Gang patted my head and said, "In the face of natural disasters, humanity is small; there's no need to apologize."
I nodded.
Ma Gang lowered his head and kissed me.
I instinctively tried to pull away, but Ma Gang held my waist tightly, kissing me deeply.
I was so overwhelmed by his kiss that my mind went blank.
By the time I realized what was happening, I found myself pressed against the sofa.
I pushed him away and said, "Ma Gang..."
Ma Gang released me, his eyes glistening with unshed tears, looking a bit wronged. "What's wrong?"
I looked at him, and my heart suddenly softened.
I reached out to embrace him, resting my face against his chest.
I could hear his heartbeat, strong and steady.
Ma Gang was taken aback for a moment before coming back to himself and holding me tightly.
In this quiet night, listening to his heartbeat, I felt a sense of peace in this world.
My heart felt like a bubble floating on the sea, gently cradled by a hand.
I felt safe.
Ma Gang went to help with disaster relief, and I no longer rejected his embrace.
I told my psychologist about this situation, and he said that I have a resistance to physical contact with the opposite sex.
Because of an incident from my childhood, I have developed a guard against the opposite sex.
To fully heal, I must let go of the past, accept Ma Gang's love, and try to embrace his physical touch.
I followed the doctor's advice and tried to accept Ma Gang's hugs.
His embrace was warm, making me feel as happy as a fish washed ashore, enjoying earthly bliss before its death.
In the morning, after waking up, I received a call from Agent, asking to meet in person.
I panicked.
I really wanted to sell this Hillside Villa quickly.
But I was also afraid to face it.
Ma Gang seemed to sense something; he asked me, "What's wrong?"
I looked at Ma Gang, who was shirtless with a towel around his neck, just having finished exercising.
After hesitating for a moment, I told him what was going on.
Ma Gang looked at me and said, "If you're worried, I'll go with you."
I nodded and said into the phone, "Okay, send me the address, and I'll be there right away."
