Meng Shu looked at Jiang Yu, unsure of what he was thinking. She felt that his expression was somewhat off, giving her a sense that she might lose him. She tightly grasped Jiang Yu's hand, seeking a bit of security, but noticed that his fingers were somewhat stiff and his palm felt cold.
"Jiang Yu, what's wrong with you?" Meng Shu asked, her tone laced with concern.
Jiang Yu suppressed the unease within him and forced a smile. "I'm fine, just a bit tired," he replied.
Meng Shu saw through Jiang Yu's forced smile; she knew he was hiding something from her, but she didn't know how to ask. She could only silently watch him, hoping he would tell her on his own.
Jiang Yu shifted his gaze away from Meng Shu and looked out the window, confusion filling his eyes. He didn't know how to explain everything to Meng Shu. He feared that revealing his true identity would frighten her, and he was even more afraid of losing her.
"Meng Shu, I..." Jiang Yu began to say something but was interrupted by Meng Shu.
"Stop hiding from me, Jiang Yu," she insisted, gripping his hand tightly with a hint of pleading in her voice. "Tell me, what are you hiding? Who are you really?"
Jiang Yu fell silent, feeling Meng Shu's anxiety. He knew he could no longer keep it hidden. Taking a deep breath, he spoke in a low tone, "I can't tell you, Meng Shu."
"Why not?" Meng Shu asked, her voice filled with confusion and disappointment.
"Because my identity is dangerous. I don't want to drag you into my world," Jiang Yu explained. "I have to protect you; I can't let you get hurt."
"What are you talking about, Jiang Yu?" Meng Shu questioned, her eyes filled with doubt. "Who are you? Why do you want to leave me? Why did you come back into my life?"
"I..." Jiang Yu started to respond but was cut off again by Meng Shu.
"Jiang Yu, I love you for who you are, not your identity. Please believe me," she said as she hugged him tightly, her voice full of earnestness. "I'm begging you, don't leave me again."
Jiang Yu felt the warmth of Meng Shu's embrace; it was intoxicating and hard to let go. He struggled internally; he wanted to tell her the truth but feared losing her.
"Meng Shu, I..." Jiang Yu hesitated, unsure of how to express himself.
"Jiang Yu, I love you," Meng Shu declared firmly and sincerely.
Tears filled Jiang Yu's eyes as he held Meng Shu close. He felt her love enveloping him as if he wanted to merge her into his very being. He understood the trust she placed in him but didn't want her to be hurt after learning the truth.
"Meng Shu, I..." Jiang Yu began again but was interrupted once more by Meng Shu.
"Jiang Yu, let's not talk about it anymore. Let's face it together, okay?" Meng Shu said, her tone firm yet gentle.
Jiang Yu nodded and gently kissed Meng Shu's forehead.
"I will, Meng Shu," Jiang Yu said, his tone resolute and tender.
Meng Shu lightly nodded.
She knew there were still many mysteries between them, but they would face them together, unravel those mysteries together, and create a future that belonged to them.
"Shall we go see the outside world together?" Meng Shu asked, her voice filled with anticipation.
Jiang Yu nodded, taking Meng Shu's hand as they walked out of the café. They strolled side by side along the bustling street, feeling each other's warmth, love, and trust.
Their story was just beginning, and their future was just unfolding. They would face the challenges ahead together and create a future that belonged to them…
