"Boss, two bottles of cold beer, and twenty skewers of lamb, ten skewers of beef..." Duan Jiayu said to the boss with familiarity, then turned to Sang Zhi and asked, "Is there anything else you want to eat?"
Sang Zhi looked at Duan Jiayu's sharply defined profile, the evening sun casting a gentle glow on his face. She shook her head and softly replied, "No, this is enough."
Duan Jiayu nodded and turned back to continue talking with the boss. Sang Zhi glanced around; the smoky atmosphere of the barbecue stall mixed with the aroma of food made her feel relaxed.
Before long, the beer and barbecue were served. Duan Jiayu pushed one of the beer bottles in front of Sang Zhi and smiled, saying, "Try it; the beer here is especially good."
Sang Zhi hesitated a bit; she rarely drank alcohol. However, seeing Duan Jiayu's encouraging gaze, she picked up the beer bottle and took a light sip. The bitterness of the beer spread across her tongue, causing her to wrinkle her brow slightly.
Seeing her expression, Duan Jiayu chuckled and teased, "What's wrong? Is it not good?"
"It's a bit bitter," Sang Zhi replied honestly.
"Haha, the first sip might taste bitter, but you'll get used to it after a few more sips," Duan Jiayu said as he picked up his beer bottle and clinked it against Sang Zhi's. "Come on, cheers!"
Sang Zhi was infected by his hearty laughter and smiled back. She raised her beer bottle and gently tapped it against Duan Jiayu's bottle, whispering, "Cheers."
The two chatted while eating, creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Duan Jiayu shared amusing stories from his university days while Sang Zhi rested her chin on her hand, listening intently and occasionally laughing out loud.
"By the way, have you filled out your college entrance exam application?" Duan Jiayu asked as he handed a skewer of grilled beef to Sang Zhi.
"Yes, I have. It's right here in the city," Sang Zhi replied as she took the beef skewer and took a bite.
"That's great, we can see each other often from now on," Duan Jiayu said, a hint of barely noticeable joy in his tone.
"Mm," Sang Zhi replied softly, lowering her head.
As night deepened, more people began to gather at the barbecue stall, and the surroundings grew noisy.
"Let's go, I'll take you home," Duan Jiayu said as he stood up.
"Okay," Sang Zhi replied, also getting to her feet.
The two walked side by side down the street, the streetlights casting long shadows behind them.
====================
Duan Jiayu took two bottles of chilled soda from the barbecue stall owner and casually handed one bottle to Sang Zhi behind him.
"Let's go," he said, striding towards the bicycle parked by the roadside.
"Oh," Sang Zhi said as she took the soda and jogged to catch up.
Duan Jiayu mounted the bicycle, turned back to look at Sang Zhi, and patted the back seat. "Get on."
Sang Zhi hesitated for a moment, then gently sat down, her hands lightly grasping the hem of Duan Jiayu's shirt.
Duan Jiayu rode the bicycle, carrying Sang Zhi as they weaved through the city streets at night. The shadows cast by the streetlights flickered past them, creating patches of light on the ground. The summer night breeze carried a hint of warmth, softly brushing against Sang Zhi's cheeks and lifting the hem of Duan Jiayu's clothes.
With university life just around the corner, Sang Zhi felt both excited and anxious. She secretly glanced at Duan Jiayu's back, wanting to tell him that she had been accepted into the same university as him, but found it hard to speak up.
At that moment, Duan Jiayu suddenly stopped the bike and turned to look at her, his gaze gentle as he asked, "What are you thinking about?"
