"Should I buy her some dessert cakes? But to be honest, those ordinary shops outside can't compare to what she makes. The top-tier French pastry shops in Shencheng require a week's advance reservation, and it's definitely too late to buy now. A week later would seem insincere."
"I've got you hooked."
Ye Ming continued to act calm, "Who says there isn't? There's one tonight."
Wu Rong looked at Ye Ming suspiciously.
Ye Ming shrugged nonchalantly and said, "But you just refused, so now there isn't any."
Wu Rong paused, "The celebration dinner?"
Ye Ming nodded, "After all, it's being held for someone special. Principal Old Man has been asking me what you like to eat and drink. I told him, and he went ahead and ordered desserts from that shop for tonight's dinner. Plus, there will be a master chef making them on-site."
Wu Rong stared at Ye Ming for a moment and asked, "Are you using this as bait to get me to agree to attend tonight's dinner?"
Ye Ming maintained his smile, "It's a win-win situation. Changing the environment can change your mindset. It would be nice for someone under the pressure of exams to relax and enjoy her favorite desserts while watching the master at work. I'm sure she'd be very happy; such opportunities are rare."
Wu Rong fell silent.
Ye Ming immediately took a step back, pretending to get up to leave. "Forget it, if you're not even willing to give it a try, then let's pretend I didn't say anything. You can go home and face the victim alone; I won't bother with you anymore."
After saying that, Ye Ming walked confidently toward the door. Just as he was about to step outside, he heard the voice he had been anticipating.
"Wait!"
...
By around five in the evening, Rao Jie was starting to prepare dinner. However, there was still no sign of Wu Rong's return, which made Rao Jie a bit anxious.
Just as she mustered the courage to pick up her phone to message Wu Rong, the front door opened.
Rao Jie ran excitedly to the entrance but found that the person coming in was Ye Ming.
A momentary disappointment was hard to hide on her face.
As soon as Ye Ming saw her, he almost burst out laughing.
"Waiting for someone?" Ye Ming asked softly.
Rao Jie quickly snapped back to reality and replied, "Hello, Director Ye. Professor Wu isn't home; did you come looking for him?"
Ye Ming raised an eyebrow and pointed behind him, "He's parking!"
Rao Jie immediately perked up, her excitement evident in her eyes.
Ye Ming couldn't help but chuckle at her attitude; with Rao Jie acting this way, it was amusing that Wu Rong was still worried about her. Clearly, he lacked emotional intelligence.
"Is Director Ye joining us for dinner?" Rao Jie asked cheerfully.
Ye Ming waved his hand. "No, tonight is the celebration dinner for Wu Rong's award that I mentioned earlier. I'm just here to help him change clothes before we head out together."
Although Rao Jie felt a bit disappointed, she was genuinely happy for Wu Rong.
Just then, Wu Rong walked in. Upon seeing Rao Jie, he appeared slightly awkward as he approached her with a bag in hand.
This time, Rao Jie didn’t shy away; instead, she looked at Wu Rong nervously.
"Professor Wu, congratulations! I hope you have fun tonight," she said.
Wu Rong responded with a vague "mm," then placed the bag in front of Rao Jie. She hurriedly caught it, looking at him in confusion.
"This is for you. We're going together tonight," he said.
"Ah?" Rao Jie widened her eyes at Wu Rong, unsure of what was happening.
Wu Rong blinked awkwardly. "At this dinner, there will be many exquisite desserts, and the pastry chef will be making them on-site. Aren't you interested in that? You've been studying hard lately... consider it a break for yourself... um... if you want to go, it's fine..."
