Another day.
"Xiaoxiao, what did you just say?" Zhao Guangcai asked.
"I said, if one day I want to divorce you, what would you do?" Zhang Xiaoxiao repeated.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Guangcai stiffened and then suddenly sat up.
"Why? Why would you want a divorce?" Zhao Guangcai grasped Zhang Xiaoxiao's shoulders and asked in shock.
"I... I was just asking casually," Zhang Xiaoxiao said, startled by Zhao Guangcai's reaction.
"Xiaoxiao, tell me, why do you want a divorce? Is there something I did wrong?" Zhao Guangcai asked urgently.
"No, you're great; it's me..." Zhang Xiaoxiao struggled to explain.
"If I'm great, then why would you want to divorce me?" Zhao Guangcai pressed on.
"I..." Zhang Xiaoxiao was at a loss for words.
"Xiaoxiao, I don't want to divorce you. I never want to," Zhao Guangcai said firmly as he pulled Zhang Xiaoxiao into his embrace.
"Mm." Zhang Xiaoxiao rested her head on Zhao Guangcai's chest, listening to the strong beat of his heart, feeling a flutter in her heart.
At that moment, Zhang Xiaoxiao felt that Zhao Guangcai's feelings for her seemed deeper than she had imagined.
"Xiaoxiao, let's never be apart," Zhao Guangcai said.
"Mm." Zhang Xiaoxiao replied softly.
That night, Zhang Xiaoxiao did not have any nightmares; she slept soundly.
The next morning, she woke up to a commotion outside the house.
Zhang Xiaoxiao opened her eyes and found that Zhao Guangcai was no longer in bed. She had unconsciously rolled over to his side.
Zhang Xiaoxiao got up, changed her clothes, and walked out of the room. She saw Chen Shuying talking to several men.
"Sister-in-law, are you really planning to let us help you repair the house?" a younger boy asked.
"Sure, no problem. Just focus on the work; I'll take care of the meals," Chen Shuying said generously.
"That's great! Sister-in-law, we'll definitely help you fix the house," another man said happily.
"Then I'll leave it to everyone," Chen Shuying smiled.
"Sister-in-law, why are you being so polite? Your matters are our matters," another man said.
"Yes, yes! Sister-in-law, you go ahead and get busy; we'll handle things here," the younger boy said.
"Alright, I'll go make lunch," Chen Shuying said.
"Sister-in-law, go ahead," everyone replied.
Chen Shuying smiled and walked towards the kitchen. Zhang Xiaoxiao stepped out of the yard and saw Zhao Guangcai preparing breakfast.
"Good morning," Zhang Xiaoxiao said as she approached Zhao Guangcai with a smile.
"Good morning, the porridge is almost ready," Zhao Guangcai replied.
"This porridge smells really good today," Zhang Xiaoxiao said, sniffing the air.
"Isn't it? I added some rice on purpose," Zhao Guangcai said proudly.
"Ah? Doesn't that make it even more fattening?" Zhang Xiaoxiao said, feeling a bit down.
"You look better with a little extra weight," Zhao Guangcai said.
"Hmph, you men are all talk. If I turned into a pig, I doubt you'd still say I look good," Zhang Xiaoxiao pouted.
"How could that be? No matter how you change, you will always be my Xiaoxiao," Zhao Guangcai said earnestly.
"Pfft, sweet talker." Although Zhang Xiaoxiao said this, she felt sweet inside.
"By the way, Sister Chen is asking for help from the villagers to repair her house today. Do you want to go take a look?" Zhao Guangcai asked.
"Yeah, I was just thinking about that," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied.
"Then let's eat quickly. After breakfast, I'll take you over," Zhao Guangcai said.
"Okay," Zhang Xiaoxiao responded with a smile.
After breakfast, Zhao Guangcai took Zhang Xiaoxiao to Chen Shuying's house.
" Xiaoxiao, Guangcai, you’re here!" Chen Shuying greeted them as soon as she saw them.
"Sister Chen, do you need any help?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
"No need, they are doing quite well," Chen Shuying said, pointing at the villagers who were repairing the house.
"Sister Chen, if you need anything, just let me know," Zhang Xiaoxiao offered.
"Alright, I will definitely call you," Chen Shuying smiled.
" Xiaoxiao, let's go sit over there for a bit," Zhao Guangcai suggested.
"Sure," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded in agreement.
The two of them walked to an empty spot nearby and sat down, watching the villagers busy at work.
" Xiaoxiao, are you cold?" Zhao Guangcai asked.
"I'm not cold," Zhang Xiaoxiao shook her head.
"If you feel cold, just tell me and I'll get you a jacket," Zhao Guangcai said.
"Okay," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied with a smile.
" Xiaoxiao, are you really not planning to divorce me?" Zhao Guangcai suddenly asked.
"Do you want me to leave you?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked in return.
"Of course not," Zhao Guangcai replied without hesitation.
"Then why did you ask me?" Zhang Xiaoxiao pouted.
"I was just afraid you wanted a divorce," Zhao Guangcai said.
"I don't want that," Zhang Xiaoxiao stated.
"Then what do you want?" Zhao Guangcai asked.
"I want... I want us to have a child once we've made enough money," Zhang Xiaoxiao said shyly.
"Great, I'll wait for that," Zhao Guangcai said, his eyes lighting up at her words.
"Mm," Zhang Xiaoxiao nodded slightly.
While the two were whispering to each other, Chen Shuying walked over.
"Hey, what are you two talking about?" Chen Shuying teased.
"Nothing... nothing," Zhang Xiaoxiao quickly shook her head.
"You young people are so full of energy, unlike us old folks who can't compare to you," Chen Shuying sighed.
"Sister-in-law, you're not old at all! You look much younger than I do," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.
"You sweet-talking girl," Chen Shuying laughed.
"Sister-in-law, don't listen to her nonsense; you really do look very young," Zhao Guangcai chimed in.
"Haha, you two are really funny," Chen Shuying laughed.
"Sister-in-law, is there something you need from us?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.
"Oh, yes, I was hoping you could help me with the meals for the young men in the village," Chen Shuying said.
"I can help with that, but I will need to charge a service fee," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied.
"That's no problem; just name your price," Chen Shuying said readily.
"Then I won't hold back," Zhang Xiaoxiao smiled.
"No need to be polite; we're like family," Chen Shuying said generously.
