With the job of frying Rice Noodles, Fei Hu felt much more at ease. He went to the stall early every day to help Boss with some preparations. One evening, as night fell, it seemed like there were a lot of people coming to eat fried Rice Noodles. Fei Hu kept his head down, working hard at the stove, completely unaware of who had arrived.
Suddenly, someone shouted, "Boss, are you trying to get us killed? How come there are flies in the Rice Noodles? Call that guy frying the Rice Noodles over here!" Immediately after, there was the sound of a plate shattering.
Fei Hu's heart sank. To be honest, even though the lights were bright, he had no idea if there were flies in the food because he was frying so quickly—almost a plate every three minutes.
Boss came over and whispered, "It looks like these guys are here to cause trouble. Whatever you do, don't get into a conflict with them. Just apologize and try to smooth things over. I can't afford to lose my small business."
Fei Hu put down the frying pan and walked over. When he saw what was happening, he was stunned. At a table by the door sat five guys with yellow hair, and a plate of fried Rice Noodles lay shattered on the ground. One of them was Little Four, whom Fei Hu recognized. It seemed these guys had come prepared; their instincts were sharp since Fei Hu had only been working here for about five or six days.
Fei Hu ripped off the apron from his chest. He knew these guys wouldn't listen to reason; talking would be pointless. As soon as they saw him approach, the yellow-haired men stood up nervously, looking like they were facing a formidable opponent—they had experienced Fei Hu's skills before.
"You want something? I'll give it to you. Why make such a big deal out of it?" Fei Hu took the initiative and threw out bait.
"Alright! Then give it to me, and we'll leave immediately," Little Four spoke first. Fei Hu was right; this guy was the leader of the group.
Seeing the yellow-haired men causing trouble, other customers in the small restaurant began to leave one by one. Those who reached the door didn't come back in but went elsewhere. In an instant, what had been a lively little shop turned somewhat desolate, making Boss anxious as he rubbed his hands together.
Fei Hu understood that a fight was inevitable but couldn't let it happen here; otherwise, it would greatly affect business. With that thought in mind, Fei Hu tossed his long hair back and pretended to be casual as he said, "Such valuable things—I can't just carry them around casually. You can follow me to get them; I don't live far."
Little Four replied menacingly, "I hope you don't try to pull a fast one on us; otherwise, you'll regret it." With that, he waved his hand, and two yellow-haired men standing at the door stepped aside to let Fei Hu pass.
Turning to Boss, Fei Hu said, "I'm quitting this job; I'm heading out of town tomorrow." This statement was meant for Little Four and his gang to hear, but Boss looked confused and didn't understand what was going on with this young man.
Once outside the shop, Fei Hu took large strides and nearly broke into a run. Little Four led his followers closely behind him, fearing that Fei Hu might disappear in an instant. After running several blocks, one of the yellow-haired men fell behind and gasped for breath as he said, "Fourth Brother, do you think this kid is trying to trick us? Is he leading us on this long route just so he can escape when we can't keep up?"
"Get lost, you damn fool! You can't control yourself around women, and now look what you've done to your body. Regretting it now, huh?" Little Four scolded his subordinate, though he wasn't in much better shape himself, struggling to catch his breath.
Fei Hu was hearing for the first time that messing around with women could ruin one's health; he was gaining experience. Seeing that the timing was right, he suddenly accelerated from a walk to a run. Soon, Little Four and his group couldn't keep up, and behind him came Little Four's intermittent shouts: "Long Hair, you bastard! You can't escape unless you disappear from City A!"
Damn it, City A isn't your home. Just because you tell me to disappear doesn't mean I will.
By the time he returned to the rental house, it was almost eleven-thirty. Fat Girl was still watching a drama. As soon as she saw Fei Hu pass by the small shop, she called out loudly, "Hey! Come here! Why are you done so early today?"
Feeling embarrassed about being unemployed again, Fei Hu walked over and sat down on a chair at the counter. When Fat Girl saw him drenched in sweat, she quietly opened the freezer and took out an ice cream bar. Without giving him a chance to refuse, she stuffed it into his hand. On such a hot day, having this treat felt like a refreshing relief. Only his grandfather had ever treated him this well before, filling Fei Hu's heart with warmth as he couldn't help but glance at Fat Girl a couple more times.
This girl has really started to dress up lately; wearing a short skirt and black stockings on her chubby legs made her look incredibly sexy. Fei Hu found himself unable to look away.
"Hey! Eat it quickly; stop daydreaming!" Fat Girl rolled her eyes at the dazed Fei Hu.
Just then, the door to the back room of the shop suddenly opened, and the landlady waddled out with her big belly. She glanced at Fei Hu eating ice cream and chuckled, "How's it going, Long Hair? This free ice cream tastes pretty good, right?"
"Mom, can't you speak properly? Calling him Long Hair is so low-class. What free ice cream? Didn't I pay for it?" Fat Girl said with an unhappy expression as if she were the one who had made a mistake.
"Alright, alright. I'm too lazy to argue with you, spoiled child," the landlady replied angrily as she went back into her room.
Fat Girl couldn't help but cover her mouth and laugh while Fei Hu felt embarrassed. He stood up and was about to reach into his pocket when Fat Girl protested angrily, "What are you doing? If you're going to act like this, don't come here anymore!"
Fei Hu smiled and just as he lowered his hand, he suddenly noticed several yellow-haired guys walking towards him from the alleyway. Were they looking for him? It seemed that if he ran out now, they would definitely spot him. What should he do? His eyes scanned the small shop for a place to hide but found nothing as those guys got closer. In a moment of panic, Fei Hu pushed against the counter and jumped from outside into the back area. Just as Fat Girl was left stunned by his sudden action, Fei Hu crouched behind her plump legs.
At that moment, the group of yellow-haired guys entered the shop and began looking around. One of them asked Fat Girl, "Have you seen a young man with long hair?" As he spoke, he gestured with his hands for emphasis.
"There's no one like that here," Fat Girl shook her head and said. When she said this, Fei Hu felt his legs tremble slightly.
"That's strange. Didn't someone see him come into this alley?" Huang Mao muttered to himself, sounding a bit unwilling but resigned, leading the others away.
Fei Hu looked through the glass cabinet between Fat Girl's legs and saw the group just disappearing when the Landlady suddenly pushed open the door from the back room. Upon seeing the scene before her, she was taken aback for a moment and then shouted, "What are you doing? You, Long Hair, usually seem so honest; how could you be so indecent?"
Fei Hu hurriedly stood up, and in his nervousness, he accidentally bumped his head against Fat Girl's round backside as he got up, causing her to lurch forward and lean on the counter. The situation became quite awkward.
To an outsider who didn't understand the truth, it might have seemed like these young people were engaging in something passionate, which would be normal. The Landlady was truly angry now; she picked up a bundle of mops from the floor and aimed them directly at Fei Hu. Despite her size, she had considerable strength. Fei Hu couldn't fight back and could only dodge, pressing his hands on the counter to escape outside.
Fat Girl turned around and hugged her mother tightly, her face slightly flushed as she said, "Mom, you misunderstood; let me explain."
"Misunderstood my foot! I saw everything disgusting!" The Landlady was so angry that her teeth were clattering.
Fei Hu regretted it deeply; if he had known it would turn out like this, he would have preferred to take a beating earlier. Now he found it hard to explain himself; it was all because he had thought too simply about the situation.
Fei Hu opened his mouth several times but was interrupted by the Landlady each time; it seemed there was no chance for him to speak. Just then, a few vendors arrived. The Landlady knew that family matters shouldn't be aired publicly and restrained herself a bit.
Fat Girl quickly gave Fei Hu a look, signaling him to leave quickly.
In times of trouble, it's best to flee. Fei Hu slipped away like a shadow.
