After Wu Rong finished speaking, as if not wanting to hear Rao Jie’s response directly, he turned and walked into his room, closing the door behind him to change clothes.
Rao Jie stood there in a daze, looking down at the bag in her hands, which contained a beautifully crafted white dress. She numbly lifted her gaze to Ye Ming, who was still in the living room.
“Go try it on,” Ye Ming said.
Rao Jie was taken aback, looking at Ye Ming in confusion. “Me?”
Ye Ming nodded. “Yes, why? Don’t you want to? The occasion might be a bit dull, but what you just heard about the desserts is true. Don’t you want to indulge?”
Rao Jie couldn’t sort through her thoughts and stared at the dress in her hands, murmuring, “Why?”
After a moment of thought, Ye Ming replied, “I don’t know either. He said he wanted to apologize to you. Something must have upset you, so he sent a dress and wants to take you out for your favorite desserts to cheer you up and express his apology.”
Having already completely forgiven him, Rao Jie felt overwhelmed by such kindness. “No… no… I wasn’t angry, and he doesn’t need to apologize. Professor Wu has already done enough for me; he doesn’t need to do this. I’ll go talk to him.”
She started toward Wu Rong’s room, unable to accept such goodwill from him.
Ye Ming panicked and quickly grabbed Rao Jie’s arm. “No!”
Rao Jie stopped in her tracks and looked back at Ye Ming in confusion.
Ye Ming thought quickly. “He’s straightforward; he does things to feel better about himself. He must have done something he can’t forgive himself for. If you don’t accept his apology, he’ll be the one who feels bad!”
Rao Jie frowned in confusion. “I… I’ll explain it to him; there’s no need for an apology anymore. He should understand.”
Ye Ming shook her head. “He’s put so much thought into this; if you don’t go, he probably won’t either. Right now, all he can think about is you—he has no time for anything else.”
Rao Jie felt her face heat up at Ye Ming’s words and stammered, “Actually… it’s not… that exaggerated…”
Ye Ming squinted at her. “Is there some awkwardness between you two?”
Rao Jie lowered her eyes slightly, feeling guilty.
Ye Ming continued, “This is a great opportunity—just go out together and have fun! It’s better than being awkwardly stuck in this house together! Trust me; I know him well. This is the best way forward. Do you want to restore your relationship?”
Hearing this, Rao Jie couldn’t help but nod.
“Then go change your clothes and get ready! Trust me; you won’t regret it! Am I really going to lead you astray?” Ye Ming said earnestly.
After much hesitation, Rao Jie decided to trust Director Ye's words. Perhaps it was better to go along with someone as special as Wu Rong.
When Rao Jie entered the room, Ye Ming sat contentedly in a chair, looking at the two closed doors, and smugly sent a message to his father.
"Professor Wu will arrive in an hour with a female companion."
"A companion? Not a girlfriend, right?"
Ye Ming was taken aback and quickly replied, "What do you mean? Since when did the principal start caring about the personal issues of staff?"
Principal Old Man: "Someone is trying to introduce a partner to Professor Wu; he's not getting any younger."
Just as Ye Ming was about to respond, he suddenly decided to tease a bit. "Well, he does need a girlfriend."
Putting away his phone, Ye Ming began to smirk; it seemed there would be an interesting show tonight.
