Zhang Xiaoxiao woke up in the morning to find herself curled up in Zhao Guangcai's embrace. She pretended to be asleep until Zhao Guangcai left. After getting out of bed, she walked outside and heard Aunt talking with Chen Shuying about Wang Changgui's wedding plans.
"Chen Shuying, Wang Changgui is going to the civil affairs bureau to get his marriage certificate today," Aunt gossiped.
"Mm," Chen Shuying replied lightly.
"Are you okay?" Aunt asked with concern.
"I'm fine," Chen Shuying said calmly.
"Aren't you angry?" Aunt probed.
"Why should I be angry?" Chen Shuying retorted.
"Wang Changgui is getting married," Aunt reminded her.
"I've already divorced him; whether he gets married or not has nothing to do with me," Chen Shuying said coldly.
"Don't you care about him anymore?" Aunt questioned doubtfully.
"Why should I care about him?" Chen Shuying scoffed.
"Alright then," Aunt said helplessly.
Aunt had hoped to find shock or anger in Chen Shuying and Zhang Xiaoxiao's reactions, but both seemed indifferent.
"Zhang Xiaoxiao, what about you?" Aunt pressed on.
"We're just here for the spectacle," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied calmly.
"You two are really boring," Aunt complained.
"We really are quite boring," Zhang Xiaoxiao admitted.
"Chen Shuying, do you know what Qian Baoli's father does?" Aunt changed the subject.
"I heard he's a workshop director," Chen Shuying recalled.
"Wow, then Wang Changgui must be very fortunate," Aunt said enviously.
"Mm," Chen Shuying responded casually.
"Chen Shuying, I think Wang Changgui owes you an apology," Aunt suddenly changed her tone.
"There's nothing to apologize for; we are already divorced," Chen Shuying replied calmly.
"Chen Shuying, you are truly too kind," Aunt remarked with emotion.
"That's too much praise," Chen Shuying humbly responded.
"Chen Shuying, how can you be so calm?" Aunt asked in confusion.
"What should I do then?" Chen Shuying countered.
"You should at least be angry," Aunt suggested.
"Why should I be angry?" Chen Shuying asked, puzzled.
"Wang Changgui betrayed you," Aunt said indignantly.
"I have already forgiven him," Chen Shuying stated peacefully.
"You are really too foolish," Aunt said, exasperated.
"In what way am I foolish?" Chen Shuying questioned, confused.
"You..." Aunt was left speechless.
"Aunt, do you have anything else to discuss?" Chen Shuying prompted.
"I suddenly remembered I have something to attend to; I'll leave now," Aunt said awkwardly.
"Aunt, take care," Chen Shuying said politely.
After Aunt left, Zhang Xiaoxiao finally spoke up, "Sister Chen, this Aunt seems to have a problem."
"Don't worry about her; let's just live our lives well," Chen Shuying replied indifferently.
"Mm," Zhang Xiaoxiao agreed.
"Zhang Xiaoxiao, I'm going to make lunch; do you want to stay and eat?" Chen Shuying invited.
"Sure!" Zhang Xiaoxiao said happily.
"Then please keep an eye on Xiao Liang while I cook," Chen Shuying instructed.
"Okay," Zhang Xiaoxiao responded readily.
Chen Shuying went to the kitchen to cook, while Zhang Xiaoxiao stayed in the yard to play with Xiao Liang. Zhao Guangcai went to town today, saying he had some matters to attend to and would be back later.
Around noon, many villagers gathered in Chen Shuying's house to help with the repairs. "Chen Shuying, it's time to eat," the village chief called out. "Alright, everyone, don't just stand there; come sit down and eat," Chen Shuying invited.
"It smells so good!"
"I haven't had meat in a long time."
"Thank you for your hospitality, Chen Shuying," the villagers expressed their gratitude.
The dining table was filled with meat dishes that Chen Shuying had specially bought from town. "Everyone, please eat quickly; otherwise, it will get cold," Chen Shuying said warmly. "Then we won't be polite," the village chief replied. "Please enjoy your meal," Chen Shuying smiled.
The villagers began to eat, and Zhang Xiaoxiao sat next to Chen Shuying while Xiao Liang was being fed by Chen Shuying. "Sister Chen, isn't it time for Xiao Liang to start school?" Zhang Xiaoxiao suddenly asked. "Yes, I plan to send him to school next year," Chen Shuying replied. "Then you should contact the school in advance," Zhang Xiaoxiao reminded her. "Yes, I will," Chen Shuying nodded.
"Sister Chen, which school do you plan to send Xiao Liang to?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked curiously. "I haven't decided yet," Chen Shuying hesitated. "You can inquire about which schools are better," Zhang Xiaoxiao suggested. "You're right; I should do that," Chen Shuying agreed. "Sister Chen, Xiao Liang is so smart; he will definitely get into a good school," Zhang Xiaoxiao encouraged her.
"Thank you for your encouragement, I will do my best," Chen Shuying said firmly.
"Sister Chen, let's work hard together," Zhang Xiaoxiao said earnestly.
"Okay, let's work hard together," Chen Shuying replied with a smile.
