“Shih Sheng, Zhang Xiaoxiao and I are going to G Province. After we leave C Province, can you occasionally let her come over to pass the time?” Zhao Guangcai requested. 0

“Hmm?” Shih Sheng replied in surprise. 0

“Is that okay?” Zhao Guangcai asked hopefully. 0

“Haha, Guangcai, you borrowed a man from me,” Shih Sheng joked. 0

“Thank you, Shih Sheng,” Zhang Xiaoxiao said gratefully. 0

“You're welcome. When are you leaving?” Shih Sheng asked curiously. 0

“In a few days,” Zhao Guangcai answered. 0

“Well, you better hurry up then,” Shih Sheng reminded them. 0

“Yeah,” Zhao Guangcai nodded. 0

“You two chat first; I’ll go pick out a few books,” Zhang Xiaoxiao said. 0

“Okay,” Zhao Guangcai replied. 0

Zhang Xiaoxiao walked over to the bookshelf and carefully selected some books. 0

“That girl is quite pretty.” 0

“Yeah, but she doesn’t seem very smart.” 0

“Indeed, it’s really strange that she likes reading.” 0

“Hahaha…” 0

Zhang Xiaoxiao frowned slightly at the comments coming from behind her. She turned around and shot a cold glance at the group of young men before walking over gracefully. 0

“Were you just talking about me?” Zhang Xiaoxiao asked with a smile. 0

“And if we were?” one of the young men replied arrogantly. 0

“I’m curious, where do I look unintelligent?” Zhang Xiaoxiao raised an eyebrow. 0

“You look like a vase,” another young man bluntly stated. 0

“My looks are a gift from my parents; I cherish and take pride in them. Are you jealous of my beautiful face?” Zhang Xiaoxiao responded calmly. 0

"Who is jealous of you?" the young man retorted. 0
"Then why are you slandering me?" Zhang Xiaoxiao questioned. 0
"We just think you don't deserve this big brother," the young man said, pointing at Zhao Guangcai. 0
"Whether I deserve it or not is not for you to judge," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied firmly with a smile. 0
"You—" the young man said, furious and embarrassed. 0
"What about me?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked fearlessly. 0
"Miss, don't misunderstand; they were just speaking casually," Shih Sheng quickly intervened. 0
"Speaking casually? Can that excuse hurting others?" Zhang Xiaoxiao said coldly. 0
"That's not what we meant," Shih Sheng hurriedly explained. 0
"Then what do you mean?" Zhang Xiaoxiao pressed on. 0
"We just think you look fake when you're reading," the young man muttered. 0
"I look fake when I'm reading?" Zhang Xiaoxiao was taken aback. 0
She reflected on herself; she never pretended while reading. She simply believed that reading could make her smarter, and she enjoyed it. 0
"When I read, I never hide my emotions or pretend to understand everything; I just love reading and the feelings those words bring me," Zhang Xiaoxiao confessed. 0
"Is that really how you feel?" the young man doubted. 0
"Of course," Zhang Xiaoxiao affirmed. 0
"But reading isn't something girls should do," the young man mumbled. 0
"Who says girls can't read?" Zhang Xiaoxiao said, displeased. 0
"My mom says so," the young man replied defiantly. 0
"What era is your mom from?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked, speechless. 0
"The 1970s," the young man answered. 0
"..." Zhang Xiaoxiao fell silent. 0
"We have already reformed and opened up; women can pursue their dreams and have their own careers now; you shouldn't be limited by outdated thinking," Zhang Xiaoxiao said earnestly with a smile. 0
"We haven't thought about these things," the young man admitted awkwardly. 0
"You should pay more attention to the news and learn some new knowledge," Zhang Xiaoxiao suggested. 0

"Mm." The young man nodded. 0

"You should read more, think more, and not just believe everything you hear," Zhang Xiaoxiao continued to educate. 0

"We will," the young man replied with embarrassment. 0

"Reading is not for distinguishing social status, but for self-improvement and cultivating one's character," Zhang Xiaoxiao summarized. 0

"I have learned a lot," the young man said respectfully. 0

"No need to be polite," Zhang Xiaoxiao said with a smile. 0

Zhao Guangcai and Shih Sheng were both stunned; they had never seen this side of Zhang Xiaoxiao before. She seemed to radiate light, so dazzling, so beautiful. 0

"Zhang Xiaoxiao, what you just said has greatly benefited me," Shih Sheng said earnestly. 0

"I was just speaking casually," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied modestly. 0

"Your casual remarks are more profound than some people's careful considerations," Shih Sheng remarked with admiration. 0

"I... I’m going to pick some books," Zhang Xiaoxiao said shyly. 0

"I'll go with you," Zhao Guangcai quickly followed her. 0

Shih Sheng watched their retreating figures, lost in thought. 0

Zhao Guangcai quietly tugged at Zhang Xiaoxiao's sleeve and whispered, "Zhang Xiaoxiao, you are really impressive." 0

"What do you mean I'm impressive?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked in confusion. 0

"Your eloquence is excellent, and you have great poise," Zhao Guangcai praised. 0

"I just expressed what I was thinking," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied humbly. 0

"This is the first time I've seen this side of you," Zhao Guangcai said in surprise. 0

"Don't you like it?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked anxiously. 0

"No, I really like it," Zhao Guangcai said excitedly. 0

"Really?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked uncertainly. 0

"Mm." Zhao Guangcai nodded vigorously. 0

"That's good," Zhang Xiaoxiao sighed in relief. 0
