The next day, we all gathered at the entrance of the academy. The instructor called me over and spoke to me privately for a moment.
"Xi Meng, this outdoor training is an annual event held by our Demon Emperor Silver Hall. Only when faced with life and death can one achieve breakthroughs. This is real combat, and every year many students die in the Beast Forest, so you must be careful. After all, you are human, and being here is like being a fragment of a human soul. If you get seriously injured, it will be dangerous. Trust me, as long as you can make it out of here, you will experience significant progress. You should pay attention while inside; if you encounter suitable magical beasts, capture them. It will greatly benefit you in the future. This is a one-time opportunity, so you must be cautious." The instructor warned me with a serious expression.
"I understand. Thank you, instructor."
We returned to the group. "Group 36, gather here," a male instructor's voice rang out, and the previously noisy entrance fell silent. Everyone focused their attention on the instructor.
I pulled Xiaopu along as we walked over, only to see two figures approaching from another direction. Silvermoon, the boy who existed like the moon, wore a deep purple robe with silver hair and purple eyes—like a character straight out of a comic book. Although he smiled slightly, he exuded an air of elegance and indifference that suggested everything was unrelated to him. Like everyone else, I stared at him blankly until he stopped here and calmly said, "I am the group leader; we are ready."
"What are you looking at? Stop staring!" shouted a girl named Fire Fan before turning gently to Silvermoon and asking, "Your Highness, can we set off now?"
"We need to wait a bit longer. Please report your levels and then place your hands on this crystal ball. The dean said that students who return will receive rewards based on their level of progress," he replied.
It had been too chaotic earlier for anyone to realize this was even happening.
"I am Fire Fan, intermediate Nether Sect." After saying this, she placed her hand on the crystal ball, which glowed with a medium gray light around it. She held her head high with pride as compliments surrounded her: "As expected of the young lady from the Flamingo clan; her talent is simply astonishing." "Yeah, she has only been in the academy for three years." "She's beautiful and powerful; I really envy her."
"Intermediate Nether Sect." Suddenly there was silence as all eyes turned to Silvermoon. As the crystal ball lit up with golden light, he captivated everyone's attention once again. People were still in disbelief as if he were an impossible existence.
"Prince Silvermoon is so handsome!" Fire Fan exclaimed loudly, causing excitement to ripple through the crowd as they began discussing Silvermoon.
"Xiaopu, Intermediate Death Warrior," Xiaopu said softly, feeling a bit embarrassed. The Instructor nodded; for someone like Xiaopu, who had just arrived like us new Students, reaching this level was quite impressive, especially since we were all newcomers with innate abilities. Unfortunately, everyone was still captivated by the charm of the Silver Moon and overlooked Xiaopu.
"Xi Meng, Intermediate Warrior." In an instant, I felt countless gazes directed at me. Was it strange? Even my Mentor Nian looked at me in disbelief.
"You're a new student?" the Instructor asked me.
"Yes, I just arrived this semester," I nodded.
"Nian, she's in your class. Why wasn't she reported?" The Instructor looked somewhat reproachfully at my Mentor Nian.
"This child was just sent by the Ronda Family. I didn't expect her to reach such a high level at her age," Nian said helplessly.
"Alright, you go report to the dean," the Instructor told Nian, then turned to me and said, "Xi Meng, be careful in the Beast Forest. Make sure to come back."
I nodded, feeling at a loss. What was going on?
I felt a strong light shining on me. I turned around; it was Silver Moon. Seeing me turn, he said, "Alright, let's go."
The journey was quiet; it was strange that even Xiaopu was so silent. Suddenly, Xiaopu exclaimed, "Oh my gosh, Xi Meng, how did I not notice such a genius beside me? Did you jump straight from Death Warrior to Warrior level? That's amazing."
Sure enough, once Xiaopu opened up, I was worried about how to explain when that Fire Fan spoke up, "Isn't it just a bit of talent? This is a place for real combat; without experience, you won't make it. Stay close and don't talk too much. Don't drag me and Prince Silvermoon down later." She shot us a glare and continued following Silver Moon.
After a while, the usually silent Silver Moon spoke up, "Up ahead is the entrance to the Beast Forest. Be careful."
Clearly, Xiaopu, who has never been in real combat, was a bit scared. She tightly grasped my hand while Fire Fan scoffed dismissively. I was fine; my previous experiences allowed me to remain calm. I looked up at the sky: Prisoner, do you see? I am growing.
Entering the barrier at the forest entrance, we followed Silver Moon into the Beast Forest, a place that many Students found both terrifying and alluring. This forest was no different from those in the human world, yet here bloomed the Azure Demon Rose, such delicate flowers growing so freely. I was admiring the scenery, completely forgetting that this was a place where magical beasts roamed. Suddenly, a howling sound echoed, and a magical beast lunged at us. Before Xiaopu and I could react, it was already upon us.
"Arrow of the Moon Demon, go!" Silver Moon shouted, and a green light shot forth. The beast didn't even struggle before it fell dead.
"See? I told you, what good is high talent if you just cause trouble right after entering?" Fire Fan seized the opportunity to mock me.
"You think you're so great just because you got here before us? What's there to be proud of?" Xiaopu couldn't take it anymore and shot back.
"You little Cat Demon, who are you to lecture me? I—"
"Enough, Fire Fan." Before Fire Fan could finish, Silver Moon intervened to stop her. Both Xiaopu and Fire Fan wanted to argue further but fell silent under Silver Moon's glare.
I tugged at Xiaopu, shaking my head. "Forget it; we're on the same team. Let's talk about it later."
After encountering that magical beast, I became more vigilant. It had been too long since my last battle, and I had almost forgotten what Prisoner had taught me. Gradually, we began to prepare for combat. This was only the outskirts of the forest, and the magical beasts here were not very strong, so we managed to handle them relatively easily.
The flute in my hand was given to me by Prisoner; it's called the Bone Flute. It was made from the teeth of his divine beast and is very sturdy. He said that with Yu's pure sound, playing this flute would be much easier. Here, unless absolutely necessary, I must not reveal my original techniques because if some powerful beings learned about the Dream Soul Master, I would definitely be in danger. Artifacts are rare here but not nonexistent; they can be obtained with means and wealth. However, being artifacts, they are inherently opposed to the darkness of the Underworld. Prisoner said not to worry too much; there will always be special anomalies in one's constitution that allow for artifact use. Thus, the Bone Flute is my best weapon for self-defense here. The Bone Flute has seven levels; when played at level one, it produces simple scales. Each level has different elemental attacks: level one is Wings of Wind, level two is Water Shield, level three is Thunderous Strike, level four is Lightning Flash, level five is Fire Tongue, level six is Snow Dance, and level seven is the most terrifying one that combines all six levels' powers: Phantom Destruction. Currently, my level is one; I can't even imagine reaching level seven.
The sound of the Bone Flute was deep as I played "level one Wings of Wind." Low-level magical beasts began to flee upon hearing it; those nearby were swept away by the wind in an instant—truly remarkable for an artifact. Xiaopu looked smugly at Fire Fan, linking arms with me as she strode confidently forward.
