Wu Rong and Rao Jie were walking down the corridor when Wu Rong suddenly asked, "Did you want to say something to me just now?"
Rao Jie was still worried about the misunderstanding with Long Yong, and Wu Rong's question caught her off guard. For a moment, she couldn't respond.
"Huh? What?"
Wu Rong turned but didn't see Rao Jie; she had fallen two steps behind him. He grew a bit impatient and reached out to tug on her clothes, pulling her forward until he could look down and see her.
"I said, back in the elevator, were you going to say something to me?"
Rao Jie was momentarily stunned. Although she remembered now, there were too many people around, and it felt a bit embarrassing to say it out loud. However, she felt a little happy inside because Wu Rong's small gesture of pulling her and the tone of his voice had started to resemble that of 'Professor Wu.'
"I... I just wanted to say thank you for bringing me here. I'm really looking forward to tasting all the delicious desserts and seeing the masters make them in person. I'm really happy."
Wu Rong locked eyes with Rao Jie, watching her reveal a sincere and radiant smile once again. Her black eyes sparkled with innocence, reflecting the lights around them beautifully. This was Rao Jie.
"Well, as long as you're happy," Wu Rong said, adjusting his tone. "Later on, you don't have to stick with me; feel free to explore on your own. If I need you, I'll come find you."
As soon as Rao Jie heard this, she smiled even wider, her eyes turning into crescent moons.
Wu Rong's mood improved slightly as well, as if he could handle the unpleasant scenes that awaited him next.
The two entered the Banquet Hall.
Many people had already arrived inside, gathered in groups chatting with one another. In the center of the Banquet Hall were two rows of buffets, which included exquisitely arranged desserts. Surrounding the hall were open kitchens, so the buffet was constantly being replenished.
Rao Jie's attention was immediately drawn to one corner where desserts were being made, and she unconsciously began walking toward it. After taking a few steps, she realized she had forgotten about Wu Rong and quickly turned back to look for him, only to see him surrounded by people.
Fortunately, Wu Rong hadn't insisted she follow him; otherwise, she would have been caught in the crowd too.
Indeed, he was the star of the evening, drawing everyone's attention!
Rao Jie couldn't help but smile; she wondered how that difficult-to-approach Wu Rong would behave in such a setting. But as she watched him, she began to feel a bit surprised.
In Rao Jie's eyes, Wu Rong had always been willful and arrogant, completely dismissive of social niceties and never one to engage in superficial pleasantries. Before arriving, Rao Jie had even imagined Wu Rong attending the banquet with an icy expression.
However, now Rao Jie saw a patient Wu Rong. Although he was not accustomed to or fond of such occasions, he was enduring it and trying his best to cooperate with the performance.
It turned out that he also had this side that considered the bigger picture!
While Rao Jie found it somewhat amusing, he couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for this version of Wu Rong, especially when he looked at his stiff smile.
Fortunately, Wu Rong's crisis was quickly alleviated when Ye Ming, who was skilled at lightening the atmosphere, arrived. It seemed he was also worried about Wu Rong, which is why he hurried over.
With Ye Ming mediating, Wu Rong's demeanor improved significantly.
Once Rao Jie felt reassured, he headed to the kitchen to prepare desserts. However, just as he turned around, he caught sight of some unusual scenes in the gathering.
Several older professors stood nearby with their Graduate Assistants, holding wine glasses and either sneering or looking disdainfully in Wu Rong's direction.
