Seeing Rao Jie’s stunned expression, Long Yong smiled and said, “What’s wrong? Are you upset because there’s only a little left for me to eat? I was worried I might get something I don’t like, and I can’t waste it. Since you have this little bit left, let me try it; it really is quite good. If you’re reluctant, I can get you another one?”
As Long Yong spoke so casually, Rao Jie’s face gradually turned red.
“Senior… that was what I had eaten.”
Long Yong suddenly stopped smiling and said ambiguously, “I don’t mind.”
Was the senior teasing her? Playing with her?
Surely he wasn’t interested in her and trying to pursue her!
Rao Jie didn’t dare to think too much in that direction, but if he really was teasing her, that felt a bit excessive; she didn’t think the senior was that kind of person.
Rao Jie’s expression was somewhat conflicted.
Long Yong looked at her, knowing he couldn’t rush things, but seeing Rao Jie looking so charming next to Wu Rong made him inexplicably anxious; his patience seemed to vanish in an instant.
Yet now he felt a bit regretful.
Not wanting Rao Jie to worry, Long Yong quickly changed the subject.
“I thought you would ask me to help you with your studies; it seemed like you had already made that decision. Why did you suddenly change your mind?”
Rao Jie had been troubled by this matter as well, so when Long Yong brought it up, she immediately felt apologetic.
“Sorry, senior, did I cause you trouble? My sudden decision was… quite unexpected. I’m really sorry, but I truly appreciate your kindness. It’s just that I already have arrangements that I can’t… refuse.”
Long Yong looked at Rao Jie’s expression, his mind racing with various possibilities. He feared that Rao Jie might know how he felt and was deliberately avoiding him because she didn’t want to give him a chance to get closer.
But seeing Rao Jie today didn’t seem like that; their private conversations were quite normal.
Could it be that the tutor she had was better than him?
Long Yong thought for a moment and suddenly had a flash of insight. Looking at the somewhat anxious Rao Jie, he couldn’t help but ask, “The person helping you with your studies isn’t Professor Wu, is it?”
Rao Jie froze instantly, feeling extremely awkward; she even avoided making eye contact with Long Yong and reflexively searched for Wu Rong’s figure.
It was as if there was something she couldn’t say unless she had Wu Rong’s permission first.
Rao Jie’s reaction immediately gave him an answer, leaving Long Yong astonished.
But seeing Rao Jie flustered and at a loss for words made his heart soften immediately. “Forget it; if you don’t want to say anything, then don’t. I was just guessing. Come over here and pick out some desserts you think are delicious for me to try! I’m starving.”
After saying this, Long Yong turned around and waved for Rao Jie to follow him.
Rao Jie felt a sudden sense of relief. It wasn't that the tutoring sessions with Wu Rong were something to be ashamed of; rather, she was afraid to let others know about her cohabitation with Wu Rong, fearing it might lead to unpleasant rumors. Previously, she had only hinted at these matters vaguely.
However, Long Yong was too perceptive; she didn't dare to lie in front of him. It felt as if he could see right through her. Yet, Long Yong was also very considerate and gentle. He wouldn't pry into others' secrets or difficulties. The moment he changed the subject, Rao Jie felt as if she were a prisoner granted a stay of execution. She could continue to keep her secret.
