Rao Jie, having narrowly escaped disaster, was wholeheartedly selecting desserts for Long Yong. As Long Yong happily indulged, they chatted about her study progress, with Long Yong offering encouragement and sharing some of his own learning experiences.
Before long, Rao Jie had returned to her usual self; talking with Long Yong was truly a delightful experience. He was articulate and attentive to others' emotions.
Just as they were enjoying their conversation, He Dong rushed over. He had been instructed by Long Yong not to disturb them, but with the principal asking them to handle some matters, he had to set aside personal feelings for the time being. He quickly greeted Rao Jie and took Long Yong away.
At that moment, the lights in the banquet hall dimmed slightly as the principal took the stage to give a speech. Rao Jie put down her food and looked toward the stage, where Wu Rong had quietly slipped behind her.
"Having fun?" Wu Rong asked.
Startled, Rao Jie turned and bumped right into Wu Rong. If he hadn't reached out to steady her by the waist, she would have likely stumbled in her wedge heels.
"Clumsy!" Wu Rong scolded as he released her.
Rao Jie felt annoyed; it was only because Wu Rong had been standing so close behind her that she had bumped into him in the first place!
"It’s clearly your fault..." Rao Jie mumbled. However, the microphone's volume was too loud for her voice to reach Wu Rong's ears.
"What did you say?" he asked.
Rao Jie moved her lips but didn’t continue; instead, she curiously asked, "What are you doing over here?"
Wu Rong glanced at the dessert table. "It's not my turn yet. They’ll probably be talking for another half hour. I just need a breather; ugh, I really want to leave right now."
Rao Jie chuckled awkwardly. "If you leave now, Director Ye will definitely come crying at your door every day."
Wu Rong's lips twitched. "You’re lucky; not only are you enjoying yourself here, but you also have someone to chat with."
Noticing the frustration in Wu Rong's tone, Rao Jie didn’t take it personally regarding herself and Long Yong. She thought he was venting his displeasure about being surrounded by people doing things he didn’t like, so she quickly offered him one of the best desserts she had tried.
"Professor Wu, I’ve tasted all the desserts here. This one is the best; you should give it a try."
Wu Rong looked at Rao Jie, who suddenly became attentive, feeling a bit puzzled, but still accepted the dessert and took a bite... It was indeed delicious.
"This is good."
Rao Jie smiled, also took the same dessert, and started eating. "A professional pastry chef really makes a difference."
Wu Rong thought for a moment and said, "Well, the pastry chef we invited studied French Pastry at a specialized school in Romantic Country. If they can't make it taste good, then what's the point of their training?"
As Wu Rong spoke, he had already finished his piece and grabbed another one, clearly enjoying the flavor.
"Have you seen how the pastry chef makes it? Can you replicate it at home?"
Rao Jie was taken aback and turned to look at Wu Rong. Seeing his serious expression, she felt speechless and had a bold guess. One of the reasons the Demon King brought her here was actually to teach her how to make the desserts he liked, right?
Rao Jie eyed Wu Rong suspiciously for a while until he noticed her gaze.
"What’s wrong? Can't you?"
Rao Jie smiled wryly. "I’ll remember to try it when I get home." She thought it was delicious, so she made a point to observe.
After Rao Jie said that, Wu Rong's mood finally improved a little, and the corners of his mouth curved up.
