"Sure," he said casually, "if you want to do it, go ahead."
"Aren't you opposed?"
"Opposed to what?" He extinguished his cigarette. "You can take my paintings as you like."
I smiled and said, "Thank you."
He pinched my cheek and nonchalantly replied, "No need to be polite; you're my girlfriend."
My cheeks flushed, and I looked down at his painting, whispering, "But aren't you supposed to keep your paintings to sell?"
"I changed my major," he said.
"Ah?" I was surprised. "You changed your major? Why?"
He replied lightly, "I just wanted to."
Using my good relationship with the counselor, I applied for an empty classroom and quickly completed the process.
With Xu Zizhao's reputation, I sent out a notice in the group.
As expected, a lot of students came to see the exhibition.
This was the proudest moment of my life.
When Xu Zizhao and his friends arrived, I was taking pictures with my classmates.
Suddenly, someone gestured for me to look over there.
I turned my head and saw Xu Zizhao standing not far away with a grim expression.
I waved and told my classmates, "My boyfriend is here; I'll go over for a bit."
I jogged over to him.
He suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the stairwell.
"Xu Zizhao, what's wrong?" I asked in confusion. "The exhibition is a great success; look at all these people admiring your paintings. You should be happy."
He didn't respond and continued pulling me until we reached an empty stairwell before stopping.
“Xu Zizhao…”
He lowered his gaze at me, his eyes swirling like turbulent waves.
I didn't understand why he suddenly acted this way.
“Xu Zizhao…” I felt a bit scared under his stare, “You… you need to say something, don’t scare me.”
Suddenly, he trapped me in the corner and leaned down to kiss me.
“Mm…”
My mind went blank.
After a long while, he released me.
I gasped for air, feeling weak all over, needing to lean against him to stay upright.
“Xu Zizhao, you…” I leaned against his chest, my voice soft, “Are you still planning to change your major?”
“I’m not changing anymore.” His Adam's apple bobbed as he spoke in a hoarse voice tinged with helplessness, “I’m tied down by you; how can I change?”
I blinked, feeling sweet inside.
He held my hand and walked me to the dormitory building.
Looking at him, I couldn't help but ask, “Xu Zizhao, did you have a fight with your family?”
He looked down at me: “Why do you ask that?”
“Isn’t your family against you studying art?”
He raised an eyebrow: “Yeah, so what?”
I whispered, “Is that why you got into a fight?”
He narrowed his eyes: “Who told you that?”
“Never mind that.” I looked at him, “Is it true?”
He scoffed: “No.”
“Then why did you fight?”
“I was in a bad mood.”
He rubbed my head and said softly, "It has nothing to do with you, don't overthink it."
I pouted, "Fine, then I'll head back."
He gently pushed me a little, "Yeah, go back."
I turned to walk away but couldn't help glancing back at him.
He waved his hand at me.
I smiled and turned to go upstairs.
It turned out that Xu Zizhao's father disagreed with him studying art, so he had a fight with his family.
And I inadvertently helped him strengthen his resolve.
On the weekend, Xu Zizhao took me out to hang out with his friends.
It was a birthday party.
I dressed up specially for the occasion.
When Xu Zizhao saw me, he squinted slightly and said, "Dressed up so beautifully, trying to attract someone?"
I was speechless, "Didn't you say I'm your girlfriend? If I dress up nicely, isn't it to make you look good?"
He snorted coldly, "You don't need to make me look good; just don't embarrass me."
I rolled my eyes at him and walked outside.
