I think I understand now. The more we comply, the more they will become suspicious of us. I exchanged a glance with Yangyang and put away my submissive demeanor. Liu Cuiyun bargained with Old Li for a long time and ultimately bought me for ten thousand, while Yangyang was bought for five thousand. Afraid that we might run away, Liu Cuiyun took us home that very night. We were to be married the next day.
We were locked in a small room that had nothing but a clay bed. Liu Cuiyun only brought us one meal a day, just enough to keep us from starving. Yangyang and I sat on the clay bed, hugging our knees. Just as Yangyang was about to speak again, Liu Cuiyun pushed the door open. Behind her were her two sons, Victory and Leap Forward. Liu Cuiyun snorted coldly and said, "If you two girls don't behave and listen, don't blame me for being rude." She then ordered, "Victory, Leap Forward, each of you take one tonight and make sure to teach them a lesson."
Liu Cuiyun left, locking the door from the outside. Victory and Leap Forward entered; one was as fat as a pig and the other as thin as a monkey. Both were unattractive and had a repulsive appearance. Victory rubbed his hands together, drooling as he looked at me: "Big brother, I want this one for ten thousand." Leap Forward scoffed, "No way, I want her."
Victory was unwilling: "I'm the older brother, I make the rules."
Saying this, Victory lunged at me.
I dodged to the side, and Victory fell to the ground, landing awkwardly.
Leap Forward laughed heartily: "Brother, you're so foolish."
With that, Leap Forward also charged at me.
I dodged again.
Leap Forward kicked Yangyang, knocking him down.
"Big brother, this one's for you."
Victory got up and rushed towards Yangyang.
Yangyang screamed and struggled desperately.
Just as I was about to help, Leap Forward had already grabbed me from behind.
I stepped hard on his foot, causing him to wince and release me.
I ran over to Yangyang and kicked Victory down.
Yangyang quickly got up and hid behind me.
I protected Yangyang as we faced off against the two ruffians.
Outside the door, Liu Cuiyun knocked:
"Victory, Leap Forward, what are you two doing? Are you trying to get yourselves killed?"
Only then did Victory and Leap Forward reluctantly leave.
Liu Cuiyun stood at the door staring at us, snorting coldly:
"You two little girls better not refuse a toast and end up with a punishment instead; otherwise, I have plenty of ways to deal with you."
Liu Cuiyun locked the door and left.
Yangyang and I huddled together, trembling.
Three days passed like this.
On the night of the third day, Liu Cuiyun opened the door.
Looking at us, he smiled with satisfaction.
"You two, go help in the kitchen."
Yangyang and I cautiously agreed,
we were submissive, like tamed pets.
Liu Cuiyun was pleased with our performance.
Only when we completely surrendered could she feel at ease.
At the cramped dining table, Yangyang and I sat awkwardly.
Liu Cuiyun looked at us with disdain:
"You're really nothing to be proud of.
Don't sit at the same table as me; do you think you deserve it?"
Yangyang and I quickly stood up.
Liu Cuiyun snorted coldly: "At least you know your place."
Ma Zhigang returned.
He was different from Liu Cuiyun; as soon as he entered, he smiled warmly:
"You must be the new daughters-in-law, right? Don't be shy; from now on, we're family."
I forced a smile and nodded.
Ma Zhigang invited us to sit down:
"From now on, we're family, so don't hold back. Come on, let's eat."
I cautiously looked at him: "Uncle, isn't this inappropriate..."
Ma Zhigang smiled kindly:
"There's nothing inappropriate about it. From now on, you two should live well with my son,
and help our the Ma Family grow."
