The once-in-a-decade High School Reunion was held in a luxurious Hotel Banquet Hall, filled with the fragrance of perfume and the sound of clinking glasses.
My ex-boyfriend arrived late, looking refined and aloof in a black designer suit that made him appear even more distinguished. I sat in a quiet corner, holding my five-year-old Little Bean, with a plain face and simple attire, trying hard to blend in and not stand out too much. Little Bean squirmed restlessly in my arms and said in a sweet voice, "Mommy, I'm hungry." I snapped back to reality and pulled a piece of chocolate from my bag, gently coaxing, "Sweetheart, have some chocolate to tide you over. Mommy will take you for something delicious soon." Little Bean happily accepted the chocolate and began nibbling on it.
I sighed in relief and scanned the crowd aimlessly, only to accidentally lock eyes with the last person I wanted to see. "Oh, isn't this our school beauty Lin Qingqian? Why are you hiding here?" The sharp and sarcastic voice felt like a bucket of cold water, instantly extinguishing the last bit of warmth in my heart.
I sighed silently; I had no intention of facing her directly again, especially since I still felt a twinge of guilt over what happened ten years ago. But Zhao Siqi wouldn’t let me off the hook. She approached me quickly in a stunning red gown with exquisite makeup, standing before me with an air of superiority.
Her disdainful gaze swept over me as she smirked mockingly, "Is this how you decided to show up? I thought you'd at least look glamorous. This outfit is so tacky; it really tarnishes your reputation as the school beauty." I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms as I struggled to suppress the urge to retort.
Zhao Siqi, this arrogant woman, had always enjoyed opposing me since our school days. After I won the campus modeling competition and became the school beauty, her hostility became even more apparent. I knew she was a wealthy heiress who should have been treated like royalty; yet her behavior of wanting to see others fail was hardly befitting of someone from her background.
In my youthful arrogance, I once felt compelled to compete with her. Even if there were no buns to steam, I would still fight for my pride; I dared to retaliate against her provocations. But now, with Little Bean by my side and life having smoothed out my edges, all I wanted was to live peacefully. Zhao Siqi saw that I remained silent and grew even more pleased with herself.
She turned around and gave a glance to the classmates who had already noticed the scene, and instantly, a wave of snickering and whispers spread through the crowd.
Deliberately raising her voice, she boasted, "Did you know? I'm going to marry the old CEO of Yao Hua Group! He's worth over a hundred million! And coincidentally, his name is also Shen Mo! You all must come to our wedding!"
"Exactly! If our Siqi is kind-hearted, she might even introduce you to a rich guy who could help take care of your kids!" A classmate, eager to please Zhao Siqi, joined in with mocking remarks directed at me.
My face turned pale, and my heart felt like it was being tightly squeezed by someone, making it hard to breathe.
To make matters worse, Zhao Siqi took advantage of my distraction and quietly approached Little Bean, gently pinching his soft cheeks.
Though her touch was light, it left two red marks on Little Bean's face. He pouted, holding back tears, instinctively shrinking into my embrace, his eyes filled with helplessness and fear.

They could target me, but laying hands on my precious child was absolutely intolerable! Just as I was about to retort, the door to the banquet hall suddenly swung open, and the spotlight illuminated a tall figure standing at the entrance.
