After handling Ling Xueer's funeral, the two of them simply tidied up and were ready to begin their journey to another world.
At night, the crescent moon hung high in the sky. Lingfeng slowly walked outside, staring at the house he had lived in for five years. It held too many of his memories, both joyful and sorrowful.
"Let's go," Azure Vine urged, carrying an ancient bronze sword on his back.
Lingfeng slowly turned around and took a deep breath.
Azure Vine took down the ancient sword and tossed it into the air. What was originally just over a meter long instantly transformed into a massive object, floating like a balloon in the sky.
Lingfeng was stunned; it was his first time witnessing such a scene.
Azure Vine picked up Lingfeng and with a powerful push of his feet, soared onto the ancient sword. Then, with a thought, the sword spun in the air and flew swiftly to the side.
"How's it going, Lingfeng? Isn't it exhilarating?" The ancient sword flew rapidly, and although the howling wind created a deafening noise, it did not affect Azure Vine's voice at all.
Lingfeng couldn't open his mouth; he could only tightly close it and nod instinctively while gripping Azure Vine's thigh.
Azure Vine looked at Lingfeng with amusement and called out, "Lingfeng, come on, enjoy the thrill of flying!"
"Can I?" Lingfeng asked uncertainly, even afraid to look down. At that moment, vast lakes and rivers lay beneath him, but he lacked the courage to gaze upon them.
Azure Vine nodded, grasped Lingfeng's hands to help him stand up, and then held him tightly to encourage him to look down.
Lingfeng glanced down and gasped; everything on the ground appeared so small.
Azure Vine laughed heartily and said, "Lingfeng, flying with a sword is a skill of cultivators. As your cultivation level increases, you'll easily learn this ability. I believe you will master it in the future, so you must not be afraid but face everything head-on. In the Cultivation Realm, there are many things you cannot imagine: monsters, spirits, ghosts, deities—all of these exist. So be prepared to confront them!"
"You never told me you could fly!" Lingfeng shouted, his voice drowned out by the howling wind.
Azure Vine gazed into the distance and sighed helplessly, "You don't understand these things!"
The Three Realms have their own laws; if everyone in the Mortal Realm knew the secrets of cultivation, chaos would ensue.
Before long, a vast expanse of white appeared in the distance.
"Brother, what is that?" Lingfeng asked, pointing ahead.
Azure Vine squinted his eyes. "That is the sea!"
"The sea!" Lingfeng sighed lightly. He had never seen the ocean this large before. All he knew was that the sea was vast and beautiful.
The Cultivation Realm exists within Four-Dimensional Space. It is well-known that time is one-dimensional, and the space we inhabit is three-dimensional; however, beyond our living space lies the fourth dimension. Through the Four-Dimensional Space Gate, we can access other worlds, such as the Cultivation Realm.
The Four-Dimensional Space Gate is located over a body of water called Delta. This location was chosen because it is situated above the Pacific Ocean, making it difficult to detect. Nevertheless, during World War I and World War II, some people still accidentally entered the Four-Dimensional Space Gate and never returned.
"We're almost there!" Azure Vine suddenly said with a light sigh.
"Almost where?" Lingfeng asked curiously.
"To another world!" Azure Vine replied, then cautioned him, "No matter what happens, don't be afraid. I'm taking you to another world, a world for the strong!"
Lingfeng's eyes sparkled with determination; he would fear nothing in order to save Ling Xueer.
"Alright, Lingfeng, hold on tight!" shouted Azure Vine over the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Suddenly, a white light illuminated the sky and then extinguished, resembling a burst of magnesium flares that were abruptly covered.
Lingfeng was stunned; just moments ago, the vast ocean surrounded him, but now everything felt narrow and dim. The space around him was transparent, like shards of glass, with the other side also revealing the ocean, seemingly from another world.
This situation lasted only ten minutes before the two arrived at their destination on a Flying Sword: the Cultivation Realm.
At this moment, they found themselves not by the ocean but at the foot of an endless mountain range, with no end in sight, devoid of trees or flowers, only massive boulders scattered around.
"Are you tired?" Azure Vine turned to ask the still-shocked Lingfeng.
Lingfeng nodded blankly, still unable to comprehend how he had arrived in this world.
Azure Vine smiled and twisted her body as the ancient sword dove down like a rocket that had spotted its target.
"Ah~~!" Lingfeng screamed in terror and clung tightly to Azure Vine's leg once more.
Just a hundred meters from the ground, the ancient sword suddenly slowed down and gently descended.
"Come down!" Azure Vine jumped to the ground, beckoning Lingfeng.
Lingfeng shook his head in pain but couldn't find his voice to respond.
With a puzzled expression, Azure Vine picked Lingfeng up. However, as soon as she let go, Lingfeng lost his balance and sat down on the ground.
Seeing this, Azure Vine burst into laughter and sheathed her ancient sword.
Although Lingfeng had learned some skills from Azure Vine, he was still a child and could not withstand such situations. The surprise in his heart, combined with the tension in his body, had already made his legs numb.
Azure Vine crouched down and gently massaged Lingfeng's legs with both hands. Blood began to circulate in Lingfeng's body, and he started to feel warmth in his legs, which gradually reduced the numbness.
"Get up and walk around!" Azure Vine said as he pulled Lingfeng up.
Lingfeng smiled, stretched his legs, and felt much better.
"By the way, Brother, where are we?" Lingfeng asked.
"We are in the Cultivation Realm. This mountain is called Void Spirit Mountain, and it is the entrance to the Four-Dimensional Gate!"
"Void Spirit Mountain?" Lingfeng murmured. "Why is it called Void Spirit Mountain instead of something like Four-Dimensional Mountain?"
Azure Vine sat down on the ground, took off his shoes, revealing his dirty feet again. "Because there are no living beings here, it is called Void Spirit Mountain."
"Oh~~!" Lingfeng looked around; apart from large rocks, he really couldn't see any creatures, not even weeds.
"Brother, are you hungry?" Lingfeng asked again.
Azure Vine looked at Lingfeng with amusement and teased, "Child, are you hungry? If you're hungry, eat. The dry food is in the bag; go get it yourself!"
Lingfeng giggled and got up to fetch the dry food.
Before long, it was dark. Azure Vine seemed tired as well and lay down on a rock to sleep.
Lingfeng sat on a rock, staring blankly into space.
He remembered the conversation he had with Ling Xueer in the well, where one star represented Lingfeng and another represented Ling Xueer, and they would never be apart. However, fate had other plans; who would have thought that in just a short time, they would be separated by great distances?
Now, those two stars had vanished.
Lingfeng searched desperately, but among the countless stars above, he could not find the one he was looking for. Finally, panic set in; his eyes were filled with hope and longing.
The surroundings were too quiet, with no sound of crickets or wind.
Lingfeng felt a pain in his neck and some soreness in his eyes, and eventually, he fell into a deep sleep from exhaustion.
In his dreams, Ling Xueer appeared more beautiful than ever. She twirled around in a white princess dress, wearing the flower crown she had always wanted.
"Brother, I have become beautiful!" Ling Xueer exclaimed happily.
Lingfeng felt his eyes welling up; how he wished this dream could last forever without waking up. But the dancing figure of Ling Xueer gradually began to fade away. Lingfeng stared in disbelief and rushed to embrace her, but Ling Xueer seemed like an illusion—faint and unaware of her impending disappearance, still laughing joyfully.
"Ling Xueer," Lingfeng panicked, feeling helpless as he squatted down on the ground.
"Ling Xueer!" Lingfeng woke up from the dream, drenched in sweat and gasping for breath. He opened his eyes to a blinding light; it was already bright outside.
Azure Vine was controlling the flight of an ancient sword. Seeing Lingfeng awake, she smiled and said, "Lingfeng, I didn't expect you to cry so loudly in your dreams!"
Lingfeng wiped the sweat and tears from his face and said with a slight sob, "Yes, I just dreamed of Ling Xueer!"
Azure Vine paused for a moment and sighed, "What's done is done; let it go and don't dwell on it. Once you achieve some progress in your cultivation, Ling Xueer will naturally return. However, you must remember," Azure Vine said with a serious expression, as if the next matter was extremely important, "during your cultivation, you must not let Evil Thoughts disturb your mind. Otherwise, not only will you fail to succeed in your cultivation, but you may also fall into madness. At that point, not only will you be unable to save Ling Xueer, but you might even lose your own life."
Lingfeng nodded, remembering what Azure Vine had instructed.
At this moment, the two of them flew quite far. Fields of lush green crops appeared before Lingfeng, and the air was filled with a fragrant aroma.
"Brother, are there mortals here too?" Lingfeng asked curiously.
"Of course," Azure Vine replied. "These people are the original inhabitants of the Cultivation Realm. They have lived and farmed here for generations. Some outstanding individuals choose to cultivate as well. However, they all have certain techniques to protect their crops."
"Techniques? What kind of techniques?"
"For example, they adopt some demon beasts or spirit beasts as pets. Once these beasts grow up and develop a deep bond with the people, they can help them. Some spirit beasts even cultivate to become immortals; their adopters will gain similar magical powers, thus opening their minds and allowing them to embark on the path of cultivation."
Lingfeng was amazed and quickly asked, "Can I have a spirit beast?"
Azure Vine nodded, "Of course you can, but it's not easy. First, it depends on the affinity between you and the spirit beast. If there's a connection and the spirit beast chooses you, then it will follow you. However, if there's no connection, once the spirit beast grows up, it will leave. For example, I once adopted a South Sea Butterfly, but it flew away once it grew up." The South Sea Butterfly is a large butterfly that weighs around a hundred pounds when fully grown; it is considered the king among butterflies and a type of exotic beast.
