Tu Shen was startled and immediately crouched down, hiding behind a large metal machine.
"There's an ambush! Be careful!" he shouted into his earpiece while quickly scanning the surroundings, trying to locate the source of the gunfire.
The factory was dimly lit, filled with abandoned machines and debris, creating large patches of shadow where enemies could be hiding in any corner.
"Two o'clock! Target spotted!" a teammate's voice came through the earpiece. Tu Shen immediately looked in the direction indicated by his teammate and saw a shadow flash past behind a machine.
"Don't shoot! We need to capture them alive!" Tu Shen said in a low voice, signaling his teammates to encircle the area.
Chen Shuhua slowly opened his eyes, the pungent smell of disinfectant making him frown uncomfortably. "Where am I..." He struggled to sit up but felt weak all over.
"Don't move; you're still in the hospital." A familiar voice came from nearby. Chen Shuhua turned his head and saw Tu Shen sitting on a chair beside the bed, holding a newspaper and looking at him with concern.
"Tu Shen? How did I end up here?" Chen Shuhua tried hard to recall what had happened before he lost consciousness, but his mind was still blank. "Right, that Organ Trafficking Case..."
"Shh..." Tu Shen made a gesture for silence. "You've been unconscious for three days. The doctor said you suffered a head injury and need to rest."
"Three days?" Chen Shuhua murmured. He vaguely remembered discovering some important clue but couldn't recall anything specific. "So... how's the case going?"
"We've dismantled their hideout and captured several suspects," Tu Shen's tone was heavy. "But..."
"But what?" Chen Shuhua pressed, noticing Tu Shen's hesitation, a sense of unease rising within him.
"But their leader has escaped," Tu Shen sighed. "We found a large number of human organs in the factory where he was hiding, and..."
He paused, seemingly organizing his thoughts. "And we found your wife's belongings."
"What did you say?!" Chen Shuhua suddenly sat up, grabbing Tu Shen's arm. "Say that again!" His gaze turned sharp, filled with disbelief and terror.
Tu Shen looked at Chen Shuhua's agitated state and gently patted his shoulder. "Chen Shuhua, please calm down. I know this is cruel for you, but..."
"Calm down? How can I calm down?!" Chen Shuhua violently shook off Tu Shen's hand. "My wife, she..."
He choked on his words, his eyes filled with pain and despair.
He sat helplessly on the hospital bed, trembling hands covering his face.
Seeing this, Tu Shen didn't know how to comfort him and could only say heavily, "We found your wife's diary; it contains..."
"Diary?" Chen Shuhua suddenly lifted his head, grabbing Tu Shen's collar. "Where is the diary? Give it to me now!"
Tu Shen was startled by Chen Shuhua's sudden action and quickly reassured him, "Please calm down. The diary is currently held as evidence at the police station. I'll apply for it shortly, and you can have it first thing tomorrow morning."
Chen Shuhua finally released his grip, weakly leaning against the headboard, his eyes filled with bloodshot veins. "I want to personally catch those beasts..." he said through gritted teeth, his tone filled with hatred and anger.
