Gao Zhendong planned a series of bloody events to force the individuals on the wanted list to reveal themselves. He knew that anyone bold enough to eliminate Shadow Assassin at Base must possess formidable strength; otherwise, it would be impossible to carry out such a clean operation without leaving any survivors or clues. Such individuals cannot tolerate being slandered. Therefore, he had his Guards don night attire and indiscriminately slaughter civilians at night, only to return at dawn, pretending to investigate as members of the Yamen, framing those on the wanted list.
The night was as dark as ink, and the Guards stealthily infiltrated a common household. The family consisted only of elderly parents and a child, completely unprepared. The Guards silently scaled the courtyard wall, and in a swift motion, the entire family was ruthlessly slaughtered, their deaths extremely tragic. The elderly parents had their throats slit and lay dead on the ground, blood flowing like a river; the child was brutally strangled, an innocent expression still lingering on their face.
The next morning, neighbors discovered the massacre and screamed for help. Gao Zhendong personally led a team to "investigate" the case. After putting on a show, the scene was quickly sealed off, and numerous "evidence" was "discovered," fabricating names from the wanted list along with supposed conspiracy plans.
Similar atrocities continued to occur. A widow living with her two children in the eastern part of the city found her home invaded by the Guards, who mercilessly exterminated them. The bodies were left in the yard, blood everywhere; even livestock were not spared, with chickens and ducks mixed among the pools of blood, creating a horrific sight.
Gao Zhendong consistently brought people to "investigate" these cases, always finding "evidence" at each scene and swiftly framing those on the wanted list for the crimes. The citizens of Qingyang City gradually fell into panic and anger, demanding that the Yamen severely punish these "criminals."
Yan Yuchen heard about these atrocities and was filled with rage; she could no longer sit idly by. Gripping her sword tightly, she angrily said to Li Ye, "I can't just watch innocent civilians being killed. I will confront Gao Zhendong!"
Li Ye calmly advised her, "Yan Yuchen, acting impulsively will only lead us into greater danger. Gao Zhendong is deliberately orchestrating these tragedies to force you out into the open. We cannot fall into his trap."
With red eyes and trembling voice, Yan Yuchen replied, "Li Ye, I truly can't bear it anymore. Those innocent people died because of us; how can I remain indifferent?"
Li Ye sighed and said, "I understand your feelings, but we must remain calm. We need to find concrete evidence against Gao Zhendong to expose his crimes publicly and clear your name rather than act recklessly."
At that moment, Zhiruo approached and softly said, "Sister Yan, Brother Li is right. We cannot let these innocent victims die in vain. We must reveal Gao Zhendong's crimes and make him pay for what he has done."
After hearing this, although still furious, Yan Yuchen recognized that Li Ye had a point. She took a deep breath to calm herself and said, "Alright, I will listen to you both. But we must act quickly; we cannot allow more innocent lives to be lost."
Li Ye nodded with determination in his eyes: "We will do so, Yan Yuchen. We will make Gao Zhendong pay."
That night, the streets of Qingyang City were shrouded in a deep silence. Another name on the wanted list—Cold Xingxiao—once echoed throughout the martial world. Cold Xingxiao was originally a capable subordinate of Liu Zhang, but he betrayed Liu Zhang due to his dissatisfaction with Liu's misdeeds and became a target of pursuit. Now, hiding in Qingyang City, he had witnessed the various atrocities committed by Gao Zhendong and could no longer endure it.
Dressed in black, Cold Xingxiao lurked in a narrow alley. He held a short sword in his hand, his gaze sharp as an eagle, quietly waiting for Gao Zhendong's Guards. He knew these Guards would come out to commit their crimes in the dead of night, and he was fully prepared for an ambush.
Before long, a team of Gao Zhendong's Guards arrived as expected, cautiously patrolling the streets in search of new targets. Cold Xingxiao suddenly leaped out from the darkness, his short sword striking forward like lightning. The Guards had not yet reacted when several of them fell to the ground. Cold Xingxiao moved with agility, retreating and advancing freely, remaining calm in the face of multiple Guards surrounding him.
The Guards fought back with their blades, the clash of swords echoing through the narrow alley. Cold Xingxiao skillfully dodged their attacks, swiftly countering with precise strikes. His movements were nimble and graceful; after several evasions, he appeared behind one of the Guards and slashed with his sword, sending another Guard to the ground.
Although outnumbered, the Guards found themselves at a loss against Cold Xingxiao's relentless assault. Their attacks were cleverly deflected by him, while each of his counterattacks inflicted painful losses on them.
At that moment, Gao Zhendong arrived with more men. He shouted angrily, "Bold rogue! How dare you wreak havoc on my territory!" He then drew a massive Greatsword and charged toward Cold Xingxiao with overwhelming momentum.
Cold Xingxiao realized that this battle would not be easy; he understood that Gao Zhendong's strength was formidable. The two quickly engaged in combat. Gao Zhendong's powerful strikes were fierce and relentless, each blow carrying tremendous force. Although Cold Xingxiao was agile, he gradually found it challenging to cope with Gao Zhendong's frenzied attacks.
As Cold Xingxiao dodged Gao Zhendong's strikes, he sought opportunities to counterattack. However, Gao Zhendong's onslaught was too fierce; every attempt at retaliation was thwarted. With a cold laugh, Gao Zhendong swung down hard with his sword; Cold Xingxiao barely managed to block it but was forced back several steps from the impact.
Cold Xingxiao gritted his teeth and spat out blood, saying, "No wonder you are General Gao; that strike is truly powerful!"
Gao Zhendong laughed maniacally and said, "Since you once served Lord Liu, I'll give you a quick end!"
Gao Zhendong pressed his advantage, swinging his Greatsword repeatedly. Cold Xingxiao had nowhere to escape and was struck on the shoulder by one blow, blood splattering everywhere. He gritted his teeth to hold on but could no longer withstand Gao Zhendong's frenzied assault. Ultimately, Cold Xingxiao was struck in the chest by Gao Zhendong's blade and fell into a pool of blood, his eyes still filled with unwillingness and anger.
Gao Zhendong looked coldly at the fallen Cold Xingxiao before gesturing for his subordinates to carry away the body. The next morning, Gao Zhendong announced loudly from the city tower: "Last night, we successfully eliminated a wanted criminal and restored peace to Qingyang City!" As soon as he finished speaking, the Common People cheered enthusiastically, completely unaware that the true culprit was none other than the "hero" they were celebrating.
Li Ye and Yan Yuchen heard about this in the Bat Gang Base, feeling an immense weight in their hearts. Yan Yuchen said angrily, "We can't sit idly by any longer; Gao Zhendong must die!" Li Ye furiously replied to Yan Yuchen, "Yan Yuchen, calm down! If it had been you who acted yesterday, the corpse on the city tower today would be yours!"
