The sunlight poured into the room, marking the arrival of a new day. Li Ye reminisced about everything from the previous night, filled with warmth and happiness. Seeing Zhiruo and Yan Yuchen still fast asleep, he quietly got up to prepare breakfast for them. Just as he was about to leave the room, a voice from the evil spirit echoed in his mind.
"Hey, kid, not bad! Shouldn't you thank me for the drink?" The evil spirit grinned wickedly in his consciousness.
Li Ye bowed deeply with gratitude, "I can't even count how many times I've sincerely wanted to thank you. Thank you for your help!"
The evil spirit scoffed dismissively, "Cut the crap with the thanks. If you really want to thank me, let me use your body more often. I really don't want to keep using Liu Fei's body; it feels so awkward."
Li Ye teased, "I didn't realize you felt awkward; you seem pretty happy pretending to be a woman." He then mimicked the evil spirit's exaggerated performance from that day at the city tower using Liu Fei's body: "Oh no~ I'm being killed~ I'm so scared~ Help~!" After finishing, Li Ye felt goosebumps all over.
The evil spirit widened its eyes in shock, momentarily speechless. Li Ye couldn't help but laugh as he left the space of consciousness, feeling cheerful as he walked out of the room.
Soon after, Zhiruo and Yan Yuchen woke up as well. The three enjoyed a simple yet warm breakfast together before discussing their next course of action.
Liu Zhang sat in his luxurious mansion, playing with a jade ring in his hand, his gaze revealing a hint of coldness and unease. As an important official in the court, he understood that reaching his current position was no easy feat; every step was fraught with traps and dangers. Recent events had made him even more vigilant.
Initially, when he received Liu Fei's letter, he felt a sense of relief. Gao Zhendong was indeed one of his trusted aides, but if something went wrong, he would have to make decisions to protect himself. However, as he pondered over the matter in detail, doubts began to rise within him.
"The timeline doesn't add up! The Shadow Assassin's base was destroyed half a month ago," he muttered to himself, replaying recent events in his mind. "After that, the Soul Devourer's cultivation plan faced obstacles, and the sacrificial process came to a standstill. These events happened too quickly and too coincidentally."
Liu Zhang furrowed his brow tightly, lightly tapping on the jade ring with his fingers, producing a dull sound. "If one thing goes wrong, it can be considered an accident; if two things go wrong, it can be called coincidence. But if everything starts going wrong in quick succession, that's not normal."
"Liu Fei mentioned in her letter that she was manipulating Zhang Tianba from behind the scenes. Yet after the imperial decree was issued, there has been no progress on the sacrifices." Liu Zhang's gaze sharpened further. "She claims Zhang Tianba is her puppet, but why has his takeover led to even less control over Qingyang City?"
He reflected on Liu Fei's usual behavior and recalled every detail about her. Liu Fei was meticulous and skilled; her loyalty should not be questioned. However, this absolute trust made him more alert.
"Could she have betrayed me?" This thought flashed through Liu Zhang's mind as his heart raced. He knew that once he became suspicious, he would have to investigate thoroughly.
"Gao Zhendong died too quickly," he murmured. "Liu Fei said Zhang Tianba is her man, but after Zhang Tianba took power, he did not push for any favorable progress on the sacrificial process; instead, he kept delaying it. This indicates that Zhang Tianba is not under Liu Fei's control at all."
Liu Zhang tightened his grip on the jade ring, his expression turning fierce. "The credibility of Liu Fei's letter is decreasing; she is very likely to have already betrayed me or been controlled by an enemy."
Thinking of this, Liu Zhang felt that everything made sense!
"The destruction of the Shadow Assassin's Base was a trigger, and the subsequent series of problems are all a chain reaction." Liu Zhang stood up and walked to the window, looking down at the scenery outside. "Liu Fei is very likely to have been bribed or controlled by the enemy. Shen Jiuniang - Appointed as Logistics Officer. Shen Jiuniang is gentle and virtuous, with meticulous thoughts, skilled in disguise. She manages logistics, distributes equipment, oversees inventory, and meticulously saves expenses.
Wang Wufu - Appointed as Supply Officer. Wang Wufu is skilled in managing provisions and supplies. He will be responsible for the supply of food and resources in Qingyang City, ensuring the needs of both citizens and military personnel are met.
Liu Qiqiao - Appointed as Medical Officer. Liu Qiqiao is an experienced physician who has treated many within the Bat Gang. She will be responsible for medical affairs in the city, ensuring timely treatment for the injured and sick.
Guo the Boss - Appointed as Weapons Depot Manager. Guo the Boss has a rugged appearance but is extremely intelligent. He manages the weapons depot, overseeing the distribution of weapons throughout the city; all shifts must go through him for weaponry allocation.
“Alright, everyone go to your respective posts,” said Zhang Tianba. “We must work together to protect this city.”
The crowd responded affirmatively and left the assembly hall, heading to their new positions. However, in the shadows, Liu Zhang's undercover agents had already begun their actions. Although Zhang Tianba, Li Ye, and others had temporarily stabilized the situation, the real test was just beginning.
