Shen Jiuniang did not need to participate in this trial because her brain had been modified by Li Ye using the Great Memory Erasure Technique, and she was a mortal. Liu Fei and Specter also did not need to take the trial due to their identities as zombies. As soon as the three entered Netherworld Paradise, they fell into a deep sleep, as if the power of this place enveloped them in a tranquil dream.
When everyone returned from their respective trials to reality, Mo Yun bowed to the group and respectfully said, "Congratulations to all for passing the trial of severing the past. This stage was designed both to train your character and to give you an opportunity to resolve some unfinished wishes; on another level, it was also to probe into your consciousness, in case there are any malicious individuals plotting against my master."
Zhiruo and Yan Yuchen could not help but recall Lan Xi upon hearing these words. Although some time had passed, they still harbored resentment over Lan Xi's betrayal, a glint of coldness flashing in their eyes as they gritted their teeth in anger.
Mo Yun continued, "Next, the second trial is specially set for my master Li Ye, called Dusk of This Life. Please follow me, Master; other esteemed guests may rest here."
Li Ye nodded upon hearing this and glanced at Zhiruo and Yan Yuchen beside him. Although both women were worried, they slightly nodded, signaling him to proceed with confidence. Li Ye offered them a reassuring smile before following Mo Yun forward.
Zhiruo and Yan Yuchen sat down in place, attempting to calm their minds and settle the emotional turbulence left by the recent trial. The scenes from the illusion still echoed in their hearts; the pain of reunion and loss made it difficult for them to find peace. However, they understood that these trials were not only for their growth but also to ensure their inner resolve and clarity.
Yan Yuchen could not help but whisper to Zhiruo, "Zhiruo, what do you think Li Ye's trial will be?"
Zhiruo shook her head, concern flickering in her eyes. "I don't know either. But since it is specially designed for him, it must have special significance. We can only trust him; he will surely pass."
Yan Yuchen sighed lightly and nodded. "I hope so. The recent trial reminded me of many past events, some of which I had almost forgotten. Though painful, it also helped me understand a lot."
Zhiruo gently held Yan Yuchen's hand, giving her strength. "Yes, we have experienced much but have also grown a lot. No matter what happens, we must believe in ourselves and in Li Ye."
Yan Yuchen looked at Zhiruo gratefully and smiled slightly. "You're right. We must trust him; he is our pillar."
Meanwhile, Li Ye followed Mo Yun into an even more mysterious area. The atmosphere here was heavier, as if each step carried some unknown power. Mo Yun stopped and turned to Li Ye, saying, "Master, the upcoming trial will test your choices and determination in this life. No matter how difficult the path ahead may be, as long as you maintain your original intention, you will surely succeed."
Li Ye nodded, took a deep breath, and said firmly, "Don't worry, nothing can defeat me."
Mo Yun smiled slightly, then waved his hand, causing the scene before them to twist and change. Li Ye felt a powerful force enveloping him as he gradually entered another world.
As the light shimmered, Li Ye found himself in a bizarre space. The surroundings resembled a nightmare, with walls and floors twisting and writhing as if made of countless worms and rotting flesh. The air was thick with a strong stench of decay that made one gag. The sky above was a dark red, like a blood-stained canopy, faintly echoing with deep growls.
Suddenly, a chilling voice echoed in this strange space: "Life is determined by countless small choices. Your decisions will inevitably change your life and the world."
Before the voice faded, a twisted monster charged at Li Ye. The creature had countless tentacles lined with sharp teeth, its body rotting and exuding a foul odor. Li Ye easily dodged it, but the monster's tentacles continued to thrash wildly in the air, producing bone-chilling sounds.
The voice continued: "Is what you believe to be right truly correct? Is what you believe to be wrong truly wrong? Avoiding the oncoming suffering only leads you down another path."
Indeed, another monster roared as it rushed towards Li Ye. This one was even more ferocious, sporting six blood-red eyes and spewing toxic green liquid that corroded everything in its path. Li Ye rolled aside just in time; the toxic liquid splashed onto the ground, hissing and releasing black smoke.
The voice persisted: "Is escaping from suffering your only choice? Then you can only welcome more!"
As the words fell, more monsters surged from all directions. Some were covered in hard shells, wielding massive scythe-like limbs; others appeared to be made of countless twisted human faces, emitting piercing wails as they lunged at Li Ye.
Li Ye drew his longsword and cursed loudly, "Enough with the chatter! I can't just hide anymore; I'll wipe you all out!"
He swung his sword, and amidst flashes of steel, blood splattered everywhere. One monster with multiple sharp-tipped tentacles was severed by his strike, its tentacles writhing on the ground as black blood gushed out. Another armored creature was cleaved in half, its green entrails spilling onto the floor.
The monsters' attacks grew fiercer. A massive creature swung its scythe-like limb at Li Ye; he quickly dodged and plunged his sword into its eye, killing it instantly. Another monster opened its gaping maw in an attempt to swallow Li Ye whole; he leaped onto its head and brought his sword down, splitting it in two.
The voice continued to echo, "Killing! It is merely a choice, but the consequences of killing may not necessarily lead to an end!"
More monsters appeared, seemingly endless. They surged from the ground, walls, and sky, roaring as they lunged at Li Ye. Each monster carried a nauseating stench, and every one was filled with lethal power.
Li Ye's sword sliced through the air with sharp beams of light, as bloody battles unfolded in this strange space. With each swing of his sword, he took the life of a monster, yet more continued to swarm towards him. He understood that this was not just a physical test but also a challenge for his spirit.
He fought on with all his might; amidst the flashes of blades and swords, his clothes were stained red with the monsters' blood, sweat and blood mingling as they dripped to the ground. Despite facing an endless tide of monsters, Li Ye's gaze remained resolute. He knew that no matter how difficult the path ahead might be, he had to persevere.
However, the monsters kept pouring in, as if there were an infinite dark power in this space trying to completely engulf Li Ye. In this relentless slaughter, Li Ye's spirit was gradually being tempered; he had to find the meaning of fighting and the strength to continue moving forward in this despair.
