The battle seemed endless as Li Ye struggled against the relentless tide of monsters. With every swing of his sword, he took the lives of several creatures, but there were always stragglers that seized the opportunity to strike him hard. At this moment, Li Ye was exhausted and covered in wounds, with hardly a single unscathed spot on his body. Blood stained his clothes, and the wounds continued to bleed profusely. His face was smeared with blood and sweat, and his eyes, though bloodshot, still burned with an indomitable flame.
A voice rang out calmly without any hint of disturbance: "Face suffering directly; avoiding suffering is also a choice. Slaughtering monsters or evading them are both choices. Life presents countless choices; how will you choose the right path?"
Li Ye cursed loudly at the sky: "My choice is to meet force with force! There aren't that many absolutely correct choices in this world! My path is my own! Those who block my way will die! Even if I have to fight with all my might, even if it means risking my life, as long as I think it's worth it, I will fight until the last moment!"
The monsters did not diminish; they continued to surge toward Li Ye like a tide. His wounds multiplied; a monster's claw severed his right leg, blood gushing forth painfully. He fell to the ground but continued to swing his sword, decapitating countless monsters. One monster bit down on his right hand, shattering the bones with its sharp teeth, while another tore into his left leg. Li Ye did not back down; he endured the excruciating pain and kept swinging his sword until his hands were nearly devoured by the monsters, and his sword fell weakly from his grasp.
In the end, Li Ye bit down on the hilt of his sword, his eyes burning with an unyielding fire. Despite his limbs being crippled, he continued to fight fiercely without surrendering. The monsters swarmed over him, pinning him to the ground as their claws and teeth mercilessly tore at his body. Li Ye's final roar echoed across the bloody battlefield until he was completely killed by the monsters, leaving behind a mangled mass of flesh.
As the environment gradually faded away, Li Ye opened his eyes to find himself back in reality. Mo Yun stood before him, her eyes filled with concern. She softly said, "Master has chosen a path of relentless slaughter in this life?"
Li Ye gasped for breath; although his wounds had vanished, the painful memories remained vivid. He smiled wearily yet firmly and said, "In this life, I have no regrets. Even if it's a path of slaughter, it's still a road I've chosen."
Mo Yun sighed and said, "From your invincible path in your previous life to this relentless path of slaughter now—though there are changes, it ultimately does not stray from your domineering nature."
Li Ye understood that in some sense, Void Night could indeed be considered part of his past life. He shook his head and told Mo Yun: "I'm not the same as Void Night; let me walk my own path in this life. Mimicking shadows from my past life—neither I nor Void Night would be pleased."
Mo Yun nodded and said to Li Ye: "Your choices will not be interfered with by Mo Yun; I will remain by your side and serve you faithfully."
Li Ye nodded and said: "Then prepare for the final trial; I'm eager to see what kind of secret realm that fellow Void Night has left for me."
Mo Yun nodded and smiled at Li Ye: "The third challenge awaits."
Mo Yun lightly pushed Li Ye, who took a half step back and suddenly fell into a pool of Ice Spring. The biting cold made Li Ye's consciousness unusually clear; he felt as if his entire body was pierced by the icy spring water, yet he had to remain alert to face the challenges ahead.
As he struggled to climb out of the Ice Spring, a radiant light suddenly illuminated the surface of the water, and countless Buddhas appeared in the sky, chanting scriptures. Li Ye looked up and saw numerous Buddhas sitting in the air, their expressions compassionate, their voices solemn and dignified. Under the illumination of the Buddha's light, Li Ye felt a hint of warmth.
Immediately after, beams of light flowed and angels danced gracefully in the sky, with heavenly light softly and warmly shining down on the Ice Spring. The angels smiled as they waved their pure white wings, transforming the entire space into a paradise on earth. Li Ye felt as if he were in heaven, a sense of tranquility rising within him.
However, this tranquility was soon shattered. Flames blazed, consuming all holy light, and the demonic laughter replaced the heavenly melodies. Countless demons flew about, replacing the angels' sanctity. Li Ye saw demons baring their fangs and claws, their laughter filled with evil and destruction. The flames scorched his body as if they were going to turn him to ashes.
Then, a wave of green flames engulfed the heavens. The scenes of Eighteen Layers of Hell unfolded in the sky. Li Ye saw countless ghosts wailing in hell, bound by chains and engulfed in flames, suffering endless torment. Each layer of hell was filled with pain and despair, seemingly dragging his soul into an endless abyss.
At that moment, a voice reached Li Ye's ears: "The cause of past lives leads to the effects of this life; this life sows causes for future lives to reap effects. Karma Cycle, retribution is inevitable! Sow good causes in this life; all karmic obstacles are within your thoughts! Choose your next life."
Li Ye stood in the Ice Spring, looking up at the ever-changing scenes in the sky. His heart was filled with mixed emotions; facing Buddhas, angels, demons, and hells, he felt he was at a crossroads of fate. Every choice would bring different results, and his decision would affect his next life.
Taking a deep breath, Li Ye grinned wildly and said proudly: "In this life, I have no regrets. I will bear the retribution of my past life in this lifetime; my future path will follow from my present actions. Forget good and evil; I just want to live freely and happily!"
As soon as he finished speaking, all divine beings vanished, leaving only a tranquil sky and the cold Ice Spring. The illusion dissipated; Mo Yun knelt before Li Ye and said calmly: "Congratulations, Master, for finding your path in this life."
Li Ye looked at Mo Yun and nodded with a smile: "After I passed this trial, are you just going to be so indifferent?"
Mo Yun stood up and replied with an unchanged expression: "This was a trial for you to find your own path and settle your heart; naturally you would pass it. Mo Yun has no waves in her heart." As she finished speaking, she waved her right hand and the entire Netherworld Paradise disappeared. Everyone arrived at the entrance where the surroundings returned to normal.
Mo Yun slowly took out an ancient peach wood sword. The sword radiated a warm glow; its blade was engraved with mysterious runes that shimmered like Autumn Water. A blood-red gem was embedded in the hilt, seemingly containing boundless power within it. She solemnly handed the sword to Li Ye and said: "Master, this is your weapon as Void Night—the Nine Nether Guardian Spirit Sword. It complements the Nine Nether Spirit Control Technique and is one of the finest celestial artifacts in the cultivation world."
Li Ye took the Nine Nether Guardian Spirit Sword and felt the immense power within it, nodding slightly. "A good sword!"
Immediately after, Mo Yun took out a storage bag, intricately embroidered and appearing exceptionally precious. She opened the bag to showcase its treasures. "These are the collections of Void Night from before."
Inside the storage bag were many rare materials. First was a Three Thousand Year Xuan Yin Grass, entirely black and purple, emanating waves of chill, which could be used to refine top-tier healing elixirs. Next was a Meteorite, as black as ink and incredibly hard, an excellent material for forging divine weapons. There was also a golden Dragon Blood Fruit, radiating dazzling light, said to enhance cultivation and strengthen the body when consumed. Additionally, there was a mysterious Ancient Scroll, which recorded long-lost ancient spells.
Li Ye looked at these precious materials and couldn't help but feel a surge of ambition. He laughed and said, "With these treasures, my cultivation will surely reach new heights!"
Mo Yun smiled and nodded. "Master, these rare materials were painstakingly collected by Void Night during his lifetime. I hope they can help you go further in this life."
Li Ye tightened his grip on the Nine Nether Guardian Spirit Sword and declared with great enthusiasm, "Don't worry! I will definitely use these resources to carve out my own path of slaughter!"
