Xie Annan In the end, I found that rat-catching expert, Black Cat Police Chief..
This is a lean man with a crew cut, dark skin, clearly sunburnt from spending a lot of time outdoors.
"How about it, Black Cat Police Chief, can you catch this guy?" Xie Annan asked him.
"Just call me Lao Hei."
"This mouse seems to know all the traps, very cunning. I've tried mouse poison, mouse traps, and mouse cages, but it still managed to gnaw through everything in my house."
Lao Hei After a moment of silence, looking at the tattered sofa and the sticky mouse traps all over the floor, he furrowed his brow and walked towards the balcony.
"So the mice are jumping from here to the tree to escape, right?"
"Yes, the few times I saw it, it was slipping away along the tree outside the balcony."
Lao Hei nodded and said, "Let's go down and take a look."
The two of them went downstairs and gathered around the tree. Lao Hei squatted down and stared for a while, then pulled out an iron shovel and pried open a black and decaying section of the tree trunk, revealing a nest of tender old mouse pups with no fur yet, and their internal organs clearly visible.
Beside the nest, there was also a fist-sized old mouse, likely the mother of the nest, but it did not run away and stood still by the nest.
Xie Annan I took a closer look and wanted to pick up a stone to smash this thing to death, Lao Hei stopped him and said, "Don't be hasty, let me show you a folk method of rat control."
"What method?"
Lao Hei took out gloves and a needle and thread from the backpack, then reached out and grabbed the mouse. Strangely, the mouse remained motionless, guarding the mouse cub as if it knew its fate, allowing Lao Hei to hold it.
The mouse squeaked a few times, and Lao Hei continued to take out a few soybeans from the backpack, stuffed them into the mouse's bottom, and then sewed it shut with the needle and thread.
"What are you doing?" asked Xie Annan.
"If a rat can't poop, it will go crazy and bite other rats. Come back tomorrow and see for yourself," Lao Hei put the rat with sewn-up buttocks back into the nest, and scattered a few peanuts to attract other rats.
Xie Annan looked at Lao Hei with some doubt, but in the end, he didn't go to kill the nest of rats. He turned around, bought a few bottles of beer, and went home to sleep soundly.
That night was surprisingly quiet, and no rats came to wake him up.
Waking up on the second day close to noon, Xie Annan got out of bed and went downstairs directly to check on the rat's nest, only to find that several of the young rats inside had been bitten to death, with two adult rats also dead nearby.
Xie Annan chuckled, took out his phone, and dialed a number to praise Lao Hei's rat control methods. However, the person who answered the call was a woman who claimed to be Lao Hei's wife.
"Oh, sister-in-law, I just wanted to tell him that the method he used to deal with the rats yesterday was very effective."
The woman sighed, "He's lying in the hospital now. I don't know what he ate last night, but he got poisoned by rat poison. The doctor said it's fortunate that it's a small amount. It's really strange..."
Xie Annan had a pale face, slowly put down the phone, and suddenly realized why the big rat from last night didn't come to retaliate against him.

In the vast night, Xie Annan came out of a building, with his hands in his coat pockets, looking around from time to time. He walked through two streets, and no one followed him. Only then did he feel relieved.
Although he had been a thief for several years, every time he finished stealing something, he still felt a little nervous and uneasy, perhaps due to his naturally cautious nature. Moreover, whenever he stole from a household, he only took a small portion, some food and money, which had the advantage that either the homeowner wouldn't notice, or if they did, they wouldn't bother reporting it.
After wandering the streets for a while, Xie Annan went to a convenience store to buy a can of beer, drank it all when he got home, crushed the can and threw it aside, then lay down and fell asleep.
I had just fallen into a deep sleep when suddenly I felt something hit my face, followed by a sharp pain in my nose. I quickly rolled over and let out a loud scream, then turned my head to see a dark shadow darting through the dim room, jumping from the bed to the desk, and escaping into the living room.
"It's you again, you old mouse! I'll get you!" I grabbed my slipper and quickly chased after it.
In the blink of an eye, the mouse disappeared without a trace. Xie Annan lit up, and he ran to the mirror to find that half of his nose had been bitten off, with blood flowing down his neck.
He wrapped the wound with a tissue, grimacing in pain, and went back into the room to look for the missing half of his nose. He searched through the bed but couldn't find it anywhere.
"Damn, did that thing take it away?" Xie Annan He looked at the bloodstains on the bed in astonishment, taking a sharp breath.
By now, it was already getting light outside, and he had no intention of sleeping anymore. He quickly washed the blood off his face and went downstairs to the hospital to have his wound checked. When he saw that it would cost over two thousand yuan, he cursed under his breath and ended up throwing away the payment slip, going to a small clinic near his home to get a shot for inflammation.
Returning home to Xie Annan, he stood in front of the mirror and raised his hand to touch the bandaged nose, still feeling the piercing pain. In that moment, his expression suddenly froze, and he brought his face close to the mirror, pulling back his eyelids.
He looked on in horror as several prominent blood vessels spread across his eyeball.
