Splash... a louder sound of someone falling into the water echoed, and Yan Wushuang really jumped into the lake herself. However, she couldn't swim, and in an instant, her ears and nose were submerged in the icy water. All she could remember was to save her Snowball, as she opened her eyes underwater and desperately searched.
"Shuang'er..." Rafas didn't expect that she would risk herself for a rabbit and jump in. The lake water at night felt particularly cold. Rafas leaped into the water, firmly grabbing the foolish woman and swimming towards the shore.
"Let go, let go... cough cough..." Yan Wushuang struggled in the water, having swallowed quite a bit. She couldn't find where her Snowball was; it had sunk, and she couldn't locate it.
"Yan Wushuang, if you don't come up with me now, I'll leave you here to drown along with your rabbit!" he warned angrily, nearly losing his temper.
Wushuang was determined to find her Snowball and ignored his words. She bit down hard on his arm, refusing to go up with him; she wanted to stay and look for Snowball!
"Ah... Yan Wushuang, you actually bit me! Then stay here with your rabbit!" Rafas was furious and released her from his grasp, leaving her to do as she pleased.
Without Rafas's protection, Yan Wushuang sank quickly into the depths. The cold lake water engulfed her again, and in her weakened state, she suddenly felt a dizzying darkness before losing all consciousness. But in that moment, a pair of arms securely held her, lifting her cold body out of the water.
Rafas had just silently called out three times before immediately diving down to search for her again. Unfortunately, he overlooked one detail: he had forgotten that Wushuang had just suffered a miscarriage a week ago. Already weak, her condition worsened after the miscarriage; she simply couldn't withstand the cold water's torment. As the water submerged her head once more, she fainted.
"Baby, what's wrong? Wake up!" Rafas looked at Wushuang as she floated to the surface; her small face was as pale as paper, her breath faint as if it would disappear at any moment. Her entire body was icy cold with no warmth at all.
Mike heard his shouts from the lakeside and rushed over immediately, taking off his dry clothes to cover the unconscious Miss Wushuang.
"Mike, get the car to the hospital... hurry!" They had only been back for a few minutes before turning around to rush to the nearest hospital. Rafas held Yan Wushuang in his arms, feeling regretful—truly regretful.
"Baby, hold on. We'll be at the hospital soon. Just listen to me; when you wake up, you can have as many Snowballs as you want. I'll fulfill all your wishes!" He pressed his face against hers to share his warmth with her, but it still didn't help; her body remained so cold.
Shouya was jolted awake in the middle of the night by a call from Rafas. He didn't even know what was happening but hurriedly got dressed and rushed to the hospital he mentioned.
In front of the emergency room, Rafas was still drenched. He personally carried Yan Wushuang inside and insisted on bringing her out himself. When Shouya arrived, they had already been trying to save her for half an hour. Rafas was frantic and urged Shouya to go inside and check on Wushuang's condition immediately.
Shouya was well-known in the medical field. Pushed inside by that madman outside, when he saw Wushuang's condition, he wanted nothing more than to rush out and stab that guy a few times out of frustration.
Faisal arrived after receiving news with Yezi. An hour passed without any updates from inside. Suddenly standing up, he attempted to rush into the emergency room but was stopped by Faisal.
"Lefas, calm down! Shouya is already inside; we need to trust our brother!" Faisal pressed him down into a seat while noticing he was completely soaked—had he fallen into the water?
"I don't not believe in Shouya, it's just that this time is different. She is completely cold, without any warmth, do you understand?" Two big men were arguing outside the emergency room, and anyone unaware might think they were fighting over a lover.
Seeing their heated argument, Yezi stepped forward to separate them. Just then, the emergency room door finally opened, and Shouya pushed Wushuang out. Rafas immediately rushed forward, taking her slightly warming hand and affectionately calling out to her, "Baby, open your eyes and look at me. Look at me! I'll buy you ten Snowballs tomorrow, no, a hundred, a thousand if you want!"
"Lefas, stop making a fuss. Let Wushuang return to her ward. You should go change your clothes and come back, okay?" Shouya impatiently pushed him away. A man like him who didn't know how to love a woman was truly frightening.
If he hadn't arrived in time, with those rookie doctors inside, it would have been quite difficult for Wushuang to recover even half of her life. Now looking at that damn bastard Lefas, he wondered if he should consider whether Wushuang could continue to stay by his side for him to take care of.
In the deluxe ward, Rafas had changed into a dry outfit and sat on the sofa a few meters away from the hospital bed. Shouya's unfriendly expression was fixed on him until Wushuang was settled in the ward before he finally spoke up, "Lefas, shouldn't you tell me what happened tonight? Why did Shuang'er almost drown?"
This question piqued the curiosity of Ieyako and Faisal, who were also in the ward. How could such a thing happen out of nowhere?
Rafas furrowed his brow and glanced at them with slightly raised eyes. Everyone thought he wouldn't speak up, but after waiting for more than ten seconds, he slowly uttered a few words: "Because of a rabbit..."
"A rabbit? Lefas, what are you talking about? Don't tell me you've lost your mind too?" Faisal seemed confused by his words, but Yezi beside him quickly understood: "Did Snowball fall into the lake? So Wushuang jumped in to save Snowball?"
Rafas nodded; she was indeed her good sister. But as for the ultimate reason, he wouldn't tell them.
Seeing Wushuang's current condition, Shouya realized she wouldn't wake up anytime soon. Looking at his wristwatch, it was nearly dawn after all this commotion: "Sharl, take Yezi back to rest. Wushuang won't wake up that quickly; there's no point in all of us staying here. I'll be fine alone; you all can go."
"No way! I'll stay here with her; after all, she is my woman!" Rafas was unhappy with Shouya's unilateral decision. He knew that Yan Wushuang was his and would soon become his legal wife.
Faisal held Yezi's hand and exchanged glances with Shouya. Since he was going to take Yezi back to rest anyway, he decided not to interfere with them: "You can decide who stays or goes; we're heading back now."
"Wait! I don't want to go back; I want to stay here with Wushuang!" Yezi grabbed Faisal's hand, wanting to remain.
"You should obediently follow Sharl back first. Her anesthesia hasn't worn off yet; she'll wake up at the earliest in the morning. But Wushuang is so weak; I estimate it will take several more hours. You need to rest well; you'll take care of Wushuang tomorrow afternoon!" Shouya approached her seriously and explained.
Ieyako glanced at Faisal beside him and nodded dejectedly before following him out of the ward. Once they left, silence returned to the room as the two men seemed to communicate silently.
The sky gradually lightened from pitch black to gray until orderly footsteps echoed outside the ward. The attending physician arrived promptly for her check-up in the morning, not daring to neglect the patient in bed—especially since the medical authority Shouya was present; the doctor was even more meticulous.
With Shouya around, there would certainly be no issues. After some polite exchanges, the doctor left the ward while Rafas kept his gaze fixed on her sleeping face throughout the night. This foolish woman only wanted to seek death!
"Lefas, I'm going to wash my face. You keep an eye on her for now. I think Wushuang will wake up soon," Shouya said, having noticed the slight movement of Wushuang's fingers. It was time to leave the hospital room to them.
Shouya left, and Rafas stood up and walked over to her. The unconscious Wushuang was gradually regaining her clarity of consciousness when suddenly, she opened her eyes wide, locking gazes with his dangerous black eyes.
"Baby, you finally woke up!" Rafas said calmly, meeting her gaze without revealing any expression on his face.
Yan Wushuang looked at him with her clear, clean eyes. The scenes from last night flashed vividly in her mind. Why did he always make her feel so disgusted?
Yan Wushuang said nothing and closed her eyes. Just seeing his face made several other faces appear before her: the restaurant manager who once helped her, the old man who showed her the way, and the innocent Mary and Yamamoto Old Man.
Those were all real living people. She remembered how the old man had been used by him as a threat against her. She had blindly agreed back then, not knowing whether this demon had harmed the old man in the end.
If he could kill people without a second thought, what would he do to a small animal like Snowball? She really wanted to see what his heart was made of.
"Baby, why aren't you saying anything? Are you still upset about your rabbit?" Rafas had already sent Mike to buy a rabbit for her; not just one, but as many as she wanted.
Yan Wushuang simply turned over, facing away from him. If it weren't for his manipulation and the need to save the general and Miss Misa, she would rather die than agree to marry him!
Rafas hated it when people turned their backs on him. Her actions seemed to displease him, and an unhappy aura slowly crept across his face. He leaned down close to her ear and whispered threateningly, "Baby, don't forget what I told you before. Don't try to challenge my patience. The gag order can be lifted or reinstated at any time. Your attitude makes me feel like you are unwilling to marry me, so you should understand what the consequences will be!"
His words were effective because they touched on what Wushuang cared about most. He succeeded once again; Yan Wushuang turned around to look at him, but the grievance and sadness in her eyes were evident to Rafas. He truly didn't understand what was so good about that bastard that made this foolish woman willing to do anything for him. The same went for Yamamoto Misa; she too seemed enchanted by that man.
