"Are you happy?" After they finished exploring the shopping street and nearly ate through the entire food street, they returned to the square, which was much quieter than the commercial area.
"Yes, I'm very happy! I've never been this happy before!" An Xin Ya said with a smile.
Shouya looked at her smiling face, his gaze as bright and beautiful as the stars tonight.
"If you like it, then I'll bring you here again next time."
An Xin Ya knew that Brother Shouya cared for her. If it was out of friendship and genuine kindness, he seemed a bit overly enthusiastic, which made her feel quite uneasy.
"Uh, what time is it now? I need to go back," An Xin Ya changed the subject.
Shouya took out his phone to check the time and said, "It's a little past nine."
"So late!" An Xin Ya suddenly panicked, having lost track of time while having fun.
"Don't worry, I'll drive you home!" Shouya opened the car door and carefully helped An Xin Ya into the passenger seat.
Driving An Xin Ya home, it was already past nine forty in the evening.
"It's late, Brother Shouya. You should head back!" Originally, Shouya wanted to walk her up to the second floor, but An Xin Ya insisted she could go upstairs by herself.
"Okay!" Shouya didn't want to push her and stood silently watching as An Xin Ya turned around, tapping a bamboo stick on the ground as she walked step by step toward the stairway. Her figure appeared frail and petite under the dim light.
Shouya felt a bit uneasy and quietly walked to the bottom of the stairway, looking up at her as she climbed the stairs. He only felt relieved when he heard a click of the door opening.
He stood quietly downstairs, gazing at the old residential building, looking at the room where An Xin Ya lived. The lights were off, just as she had said; her world was already a darkness, so why bother turning on the lights?
After a long while, Shouya finally drove away from the town.
A week later, Grandma An was discharged from the hospital.
Since An Xin Ya had a Piano Competition and couldn't come to the hospital to pick up her grandmother, she asked Shouya to drive Grandma An home.
Shouya carefully helped Grandma An out of the hospital and assisted her into the car, then placed all her belongings in the trunk.
Grandma An looked around the car; it was luxurious and shiny. It seemed that not only was he handsome, but he was also wealthy. She never expected her granddaughter to know such a charming rich man. What she valued was not his money but his kind and loving heart. She just hoped her granddaughter would marry a man who truly cared for her; money could be earned together.
As he opened the car door and sat in the driver's seat, just as he was starting the car, he heard Grandma An sincerely say "thank you" from the back seat.
Shouya turned his face slightly, looked at Grandma An, and smiled gently, saying, "You're welcome! It's what I should do."
He started the car, and it drove smoothly on the road.
"I can tell you have feelings for my granddaughter! You like her, don't you?" Grandma An directly broke that thin layer of pretense.
Shouya felt a bit embarrassed while driving, but he nodded in acknowledgment. However, it seemed that An Xin Ya only regarded him as a friend and intentionally avoided his feelings for her.
"With Xinya with you, I feel at ease," Grandma An said with a smile.
After dropping Grandma An back in town, most people there recognized her. When they saw she had returned, they all gathered around to ask how she was doing.
"Who is this to you?" An elderly lady with white hair and reading glasses pointed at Grandma An's boy.
"Oh, this is my granddaughter's boyfriend. Isn't he handsome?" Grandma An introduced Shouya with a beaming smile, her face filled with pride.
"Handsome, really handsome! Xinya is so lucky to have found such a good-looking and wealthy boyfriend." The admiration in her voice caught everyone's attention. The lady stared at Shouya, who was tall and charming, with an impressive demeanor.
Shouya remained silent, his expression unreadable. He enjoyed being known as An Xin Ya's boyfriend, though unfortunately, he wasn't truly her boyfriend yet.
After exchanging pleasantries, Shouya helped Grandma An upstairs. Upon entering the house, he noticed that some of the furniture had been replaced, making the place feel completely new.
"I changed some furniture; I hope you don't mind, Grandma An!" Shouya explained when he saw her surprised expression.
"Not at all! Those old things should have been thrown away years ago!" Grandma An said as she sat down on the sofa and felt its soft comfort.
She then got up and walked to the kitchen, noticing that the cabinets and refrigerator had all been replaced. This made her feel delighted; she was definitely approving of this grandson-in-law.
"Grandma An, let me prepare something for you to eat!" Shouya suddenly suggested.
"No need, I can manage myself," Grandma An replied as she turned to look at him. "Didn't you say Xinya has a Piano Competition today? You should take this opportunity to send her some flowers..."
With Grandma An's suggestion, Shouya's eyes lit up as he realized what to do. After saying goodbye to her, he hurried downstairs, got into his car, and quickly drove to Maria. On the way, he stopped by a flower shop and bought a bouquet of lilies.
Arriving at Maria Music Training Class, Shouya entered holding the flowers. After asking around, he learned that their competition stage was in a spacious classroom.
Shouya entered through the back door, not wanting to draw attention to himself. He wanted to surprise An Xin Ya.
He lifted his head and looked ahead. In front of him sat a row of judges, behind them were some leaders and parents, and at the back were his classmates. However, he did not see An Xin Ya's figure.
He found a spot to sit in the back, focusing on the stage in front of him. A large black piano stood there, and the participants were playing beautiful melodies.
After several participants finished their pieces, he still did not see An Xin Ya take the stage, which made his heart race. Just as he was about to get up and ask someone for information, he heard someone call out, "Next up, student An Xin Ya."
With a round of enthusiastic applause, An Xin Ya walked gracefully onto the stage in an elegant long dress, a subtle smile curving at the corners of her mouth as she made her way to the piano and sat down.
Shouya sat back down and quietly listened to the music flowing from her hands, like a babbling brook, clear and melodious...
This reminded Shouya of the first time he saw her: her long black hair cascading down her back, skin as white as jade, delicate eyebrows, sparkling eyes, exuding a fresh and clean aura that gave off an ethereal feeling. He couldn't help but marvel at her beauty.
Since then, her pure and sweet appearance had lingered in his mind.
As the piece concluded, the room erupted in warm applause.
An Xin Ya stood up and walked to the front of the stage. She slightly bowed to everyone present before calmly walking down.
The judges sitting in front whispered to each other and nodded frequently, clearly impressed by her performance.
Seeing her leave the classroom, Shouya quickly followed out and spotted her talking to a teacher from a distance.
"Xinya!" Shouya called out as he approached her with Lily in hand, his gentle gaze sparkling brightly as he looked at her.
"Brother Shouya, what are you doing here?" An Xin Ya exclaimed in surprise upon hearing his voice. She was puzzled and asked, "Aren't you supposed to be picking up Grandma? How did you end up here?"
"Don't worry, I have already sent Grandma home. She is at home now and asked me to come over to see you."
Hearing Brother Shouya say this, An Xin Ya felt relieved.
"Xinya, you look really beautiful today!" Shouya looked at her outfit, a white long dress, her hair flowing down smoothly, and her face adorned with light makeup, making her even more charming.
"Really? Thank you!" An Xin Ya lowered her eyelids and smiled shyly.
"This is for you." Shouya handed her a flower.
"What is it?" An Xin Ya caught a whiff of a pleasant fragrance. "Is it Lily?!"
"Yes!" Shouya took her hand and placed the flower in her palm, gazing at her with eyes as clear as water. "The language of lilies is purity, solemnity, and mutual affection."
An Xin Ya was slightly taken aback. She gently touched the petals of the Lily and inhaled its fragrance, which was refreshing!
"Sister Anxi..." From a distance, Yuga's excited voice could be heard.
Yuga rushed over and upon seeing Uncle Shouya there, her face showed a hint of surprise. Then she noticed the Lily in Sister Anxi's hand and immediately broke into a smile. "Uncle Shouya, you are so thoughtful to give Sister Anxi flowers."
"When you compete one day, I will also give you flowers..."
"My piano playing is terrible; it's not as good as Sister Anxi's." Yuga turned to look at Sister Anxi. "Sister, I heard you play in the classroom just now; it was so beautiful! I believe you will definitely win an award."
"Thank you! Yuga!" An Xin Ya reached out to gently pat Yuga's head and smiled. Whether she won an award or not didn't matter much to her; she felt content just being able to stand on that stage.
The Piano Competition concluded today, with two more rounds remaining, which will start next week.
Shouya drove An Xin Ya back to the town. As soon as they entered the house, An Xin Ya eagerly shouted, "Grandma, I'm back!"
"My granddaughter, you're back!" Grandma An came out of the kitchen, holding a plate of freshly cooked dishes and wearing an apron. Seeing her granddaughter and Shouya return, she called them over to sit down for dinner.
Shouya helped An Xin Ya sit down. Noticing Grandma An busy in the kitchen, he went in to help bring out the dishes and set the table.
"Shouya, don't be polite; just treat it like your own home," Grandma An said as she sat down.
"Okay, got it!" Shouya remembered to serve food for An Xin Ya.
All these details were noticed by Grandma An.
"I heard from Shouya that you had a Piano Competition today. How did it go?" Grandma An asked with concern while eating.
"I just finished the first round today; there are still two more rounds to go. I’ll continue to work hard next week. I feel pretty good about it!" An Xin Ya replied with a smile.
They chatted about various topics at the dinner table, while Grandma An intentionally shifted the conversation to Shouya, praising him not only for being handsome and charming but also for his broad-mindedness, willingness to help others, and kind heart.
