An Xinya felt a flutter in her heart as she heard her grandmother praise Brother Shouya so generously. She was both puzzled and curious, wondering if he was really as good as her grandmother claimed.
Being unable to see, her heart began to waver at her grandmother's words.
He was the man who had quietly appeared in her music room for several days, as Yuga had told her during their last conversation. If Yuga hadn't mentioned it, she wouldn't have dared to confirm that it was Brother Shouya.
From the first time he showed up at her doorstep, that strong feeling was so familiar...
After dinner, Shouya stood up to help clear the table, but Grandma An stopped him, pressing him back down and saying, "You sit here; you are my guest. You shouldn't be doing this! Stay and chat with Xinya..."
Grandma An began to gather the dishes and walked into the kitchen to wash them.
Brother Shouya sat there, his gaze soft and gentle as he quietly watched An Xinya. Her fair skin, elegant dark brows, and rosy lips made him unsure of what to talk about with her.
"Brother Shouya, thank you for the lilies today." An Xinya noticed the silence from Brother Shouya. Although she couldn't see, she sensed a somewhat awkward and oppressive atmosphere surrounding them. To break this tension, she spoke up with a graceful smile.
"No need to thank me!" The idea of sending flowers had come from Grandma An; someone like him with a simple mind would never have thought of such a good idea! Shouya smiled lightly and said, "You played beautifully today; it was lovely!"
"Thank you!"
There was a barrier between them, making their interactions quite polite. Almost every conversation revolved around expressions of gratitude. Shouya truly wished they could overcome that barrier and chat happily like close friends while listening to her delightful laughter...
It seemed they needed more time together since they hadn't known each other long and didn't understand each other well yet.
"Brother Shouya, after knowing you for so long, I still don't know what you do," An Xinya suddenly asked. She had heard from her grandmother that he was not only handsome and refined but also wealthy, driving an expensive car. With her keen hearing, she understood that Shouya was indeed the rich person they spoke of; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to help them replace their old furniture.
"I am a doctor," Shouya replied softly.
"Doctor?!" An Xin Ya seemed surprised, her eyes widening as she stared ahead. This reminded her of the day her grandmother fell ill; he insisted on taking her to the hospital because her condition was serious. Then she recalled the previous week at the city center hospital when the doctor handed him some documents. At that time, she speculated about his identity—who else but a doctor or the hospital director could access such information?
"Yes," Shouya would not hide the fact that he was a doctor from An Xin Ya.
"Which hospital do you work at? As a doctor, you must be in surgery every day, seeing patients daily, and checking their conditions. Logically, you should be very busy. Why do you almost have time to come to my house every day?" An Xin Ya had too many questions and doubts swirling in her mind.
As a child, she had also dreamed of becoming a doctor, but that dream shattered six years ago due to a car accident.
Shouya did not blame An Xin Ya for having so many questions. He smiled gently and said, "I am indeed a doctor, but I am not a doctor in a hospital."
"Aren't doctors supposed to work in hospitals?" An Xin Ya was puzzled. Suddenly realizing something, she exclaimed, "Did you quit your job and are now relaxing at home?"
Seeing her slightly furrowed brow and innocent smile, Shouya found her extremely cute and laughed, saying, "Not at all; you guessed wrong!"
"What is it then?" An Xin Ya pouted her cherry lips. She genuinely wanted to know where he worked. If it wasn't in a hospital, then where could it be? It was truly baffling!
"A doctor doesn't necessarily have to be in surgery with a scalpel performing operations. Perhaps he is doing other research in some organization or something like that."
An Xin Ya still didn't understand. She shook her head and said, "Brother Shouya, stop beating around the bush and just tell me directly, okay?"
"I am a doctor in a certain organization, treating the brothers within it, but at the same time, I also develop and invent some things."
"Organization?! What organization? That sounds like something out of the underworld!" An Xin Ya paused for a moment as if realizing something. "Could it be that you work for the mafia?"
Shouya's lips curled into an elegant smile as he noticed her expression change slightly. Understanding that she misunderstood him, he reached out and held her hand, saying, "No, you've misunderstood. I don't work for the mafia; I work for Mokani."
"Mokani? What is that?" An Xin Ya had never heard of it before.
"A group."
"Oh! So it's a group. Brother Shouya, can you take me to see it? I mean, can you take me to experience it?" If she weren't blind, perhaps she would be like other girls, able to work in a company after graduation. Unfortunately, things don't always go as planned!
"No!"
"Why not?"
"Because not everyone can just walk in there."
One thing that Shouya couldn't tell An Xin Ya was that he was working on research and inventions at Solomon Base to earn money for Solomon.
"Oh! It sounds quite mysterious!" An Xin Ya nodded in understanding. There were things in this world that she didn't understand and things she didn't know.
Shouya smiled lightly and said nothing.
At that moment, Grandma An came out of the kitchen. Seeing Shouya holding An Xin Ya's hand, she felt pleased. It seemed things were developing well between them, so she decided not to disturb them and left them some space to be alone, returning to her own room.
After spending some time at An Xin Ya's house, Shouya received an urgent call and left her home.
"In a few days is my engagement party with Ye Zi. Remember to come! If you have a female companion, you can bring her along too!" Back at the base, after a brief meeting where Rafas outlined some matters, he left the base directly and drove home, leaving Shouya, Faisal, and Mike behind.
"Of course I'm going!" Thinking of a female companion, Shouya thought of An Xin Ya and considered bringing her along to Faisal and Ieyako's engagement party to introduce her.
"Shouya, what have you been busy with lately? We rarely see you back at the base," Mike suddenly spoke up.
"Not much," Shouya replied with a flicker in his eyes and a smile.
"Really?" Mike doubted what Shouya said, glancing at him with a flattering look.
"I really didn't, believe it or not. Oh right, I have something to do, so I'll be leaving first." With that, Shouya turned and walked out of the base, heading to the garage and driving away. Every time he returned to the base, they would ask him questions that left him unsure of how to explain.
There were still a few days until Faisal and Ieyako's engagement party. Shouya decided to take this opportunity to invite An Xin Ya to their wedding.
The next day, Shouya bought a large number of supplements and went to An Xin Ya's house.
When Grandma An saw that Shouya had come, her face lit up with joy as she exclaimed, "Shouya, you're here!"
She spoke loudly because she wanted Xinya, who was in her room, to know that Brother Shouya had come to visit her.
"Grandma, these are all gifts I bought for you. I hope you can accept them," Shouya said with a smile as he handed over the presents.
Seeing the big and small boxes of supplements, Grandma An happily accepted the gifts and said, "Just having you here is enough; you didn't need to buy anything! Come in and sit down!"
Inside the house, An Xin Ya heard Grandma An's voice and knew Brother Shouya had arrived. Her eyes brightened with joy as she got up and made her way out, hearing the conversation between Brother Shouya and her grandmother in the living room.
"Brother Shouya, you're here!" Today was Saturday, so she didn't have to go to Maria Music Training Class. She had been studying at home all day but couldn't concentrate because she kept thinking about him.
Seeing An Xin Ya come out, Brother Shouya smiled broadly and quickly went over to help her sit down.
Grandma An poured a glass of water for Shouya, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she looked at him and her granddaughter. She felt happy inside, believing they were the perfect match.
"Shouya, you sit here first; I'll go busy myself in the kitchen," Grandma An said. She had just been cooking when she heard the knock on the door and rushed out to open it.
"Grandma, do you need any help?" Shouya asked as Grandma An stepped out of the kitchen.
"No need, I can do it myself. You just sit there." The sound of cooking echoed from the kitchen.
The two in the living room fell silent for a moment...
Shouya glanced at An Xin Ya, unsure of how to approach her. He picked up the cup in front of him and took a few sips of water to calm himself before saying, "Xinya, there's something I want to tell you."
"What is it?" With her keen hearing, An Xin Ya sensed that Brother Shouya had something on his mind. She pursed her lips and smiled lightly, asking softly.
"I have a friend who is having an engagement party in a few days, next week to be exact. I would like to take you with me to their engagement party." Shouya looked directly at An Xin Ya's expression.
"Is it appropriate for me to go?" An Xin Ya furrowed her brows slightly. She thought about her blindness and how she wasn't fond of lively gatherings. Being in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people would leave her feeling lost. Moreover, being a blind person at his friend's engagement party would likely draw attention, making Brother Shouya feel awkward.
"What's inappropriate about it?"
"I'm afraid I would be a burden to you. Let's just forget it!" An Xin Ya gently declined.
"It's not a burden at all. Don't be afraid; I will always be by your side, taking care of you and protecting you..." Shouya gazed deeply into An Xin Ya's eyes, knowing she had her concerns.
His words made An Xin Ya's face flush with embarrassment as she lowered her gaze and said, "I..."
