“Lefas, Xinya and I came to visit Wushuang,” Shouya said, looking at Rafas, who had a bandage wrapped around his head but wore an expressionless face.
“She needs rest. No one is allowed to disturb her. You should go back!” Rafas coldly refused their visit to Wushuang.
“We just want to go in for a little while and will be out soon,” Shouya replied, noticing Rafas's unfriendly attitude, showing no leniency towards him. He knew this person all too well.
Standing beside him, An Xin Ya heard that Wushuang needed peace and also noted Rafas's firm tone. She tugged at Shouya's sleeve and softly said, “Brother Shouya, since Wushuang needs to rest, let’s just go back!”
Shouya frowned slightly, squeezed her hand, and looked at Rafas. Just as Rafas was about to close the door without further discussion, Shouya called out to him, saying, “This is bone soup that Xinya's grandmother made for Wushuang. When she wakes up, you can give it to her.”
Rafas said nothing but reached out to take the thermos from Shouya's hands. He then added, “Don’t come to visit Wushuang again. I only want to be by her side.” With that, he closed the door to the hospital room.
Feeling helpless towards his brother Rafas, Shouya turned to An Xin Ya and smiled gently. “You don’t need to worry. Wushuang will be fine. Lefas is taking care of her; she will recover soon.”
“Mm!” An Xin Ya nodded lightly. However, after hearing Rafas's tone earlier, it was clear how possessive he was of Wushuang.
After leaving the hospital, Shouya helped An Xin Ya into the car. Seeing her still wearing a worried expression, he held her hand and said, “Lefas is like that; he loves Wushuang very much and is very anxious about her.”
“Mm!” An Xin Ya could already feel his love for Wushuang but thought that this man was too overbearing; no wonder Wushuang had run away from home.
On the drive back to town, before reaching their destination, Shouya took An Xin Ya to a high-end luxury restaurant for dinner. Noticing that Xinya had no appetite at all, he didn’t say anything. After leaving the restaurant, he drove her back to town.
While driving her home, Shouya suddenly said to her, “Xinya, don’t be sad! Even though we didn’t see Wushuang today, we will be able to see her in the future.”
Hearing Brother Shouya say this lifted her gloomy mood instantly; a smile appeared on her lips as she nodded vigorously and softly replied with a “mm.”
“And also, if Wushuang saw you like this just now, she would be upset. Do you want Wushuang to be unhappy because of you?” Shouya looked into her beautiful yet hollow eyes as he spoke.
“I don’t want that!” An Xin Ya replied.
After a conversation with Shouya, An Xin Ya was no longer unhappy and often wore a smile on her face.
Since Shouya was a doctor and Rafas only trusted him, Wushuang's condition was entrusted to him. In addition to visiting Wushuang at the hospital every day, he also began treating Xinya's eyes, taking her to the hospital for detailed examinations.
An Xin Ya returned to Maria Music Training Class to play the piano, and Shouya would come to pick her up on time every day. Sometimes Yuga would tease them in front of each other, causing An Xin Ya's cheeks to flush as she shyly lowered her gaze.
One day, while driving her back to the town, An Xin Ya asked Shouya, "How is Wushuang doing now? Is she okay? Today is her discharge day, and I can't go to the hospital..."
She remembered that Rafas had forbidden her from visiting Wushuang and was eager to know about Wushuang's situation. Although she had her husband Rafas taking care of her, she still felt worried.
"She's doing very well and recovering quickly! Yes, she's being discharged today!" Shouya replied while driving. "She mentioned you today, asking why she hadn't seen you lately. I told her you knew she was fine and that you were starting to go out to practice piano today."
However, it was precisely because of his attentive care for Wushuang that Rafas was very unhappy. He expressed his anger in front of Wushuang, accusing Shouya of circling around his woman and always wanting to be near his wife, questioning his intentions.
What intentions could he have? Shouya thought with a chuckle in his heart as he glanced at An Xin Ya sitting beside him; his heart only held her, no other woman.
Moreover, his feelings for Wushuang had merely been admiration and fondness; he had never developed any love for her. After all, "a friend’s wife should not be wronged."
An Xin Ya seemed to think of something and suddenly asked, "Brother Shouya, how are things between Wushuang and Rafas? I remember Wushuang left home because she had a quarrel with Rafas. I wonder if they have reconciled."
"To be honest, I'm not quite sure how they are doing now. It's their marital issue; whatever problems arise should be resolved by them. As outsiders, we shouldn't interfere, right?" Shouya replied.
"That's true." An Xin Ya felt that Brother Shouya made a valid point. She had already come to terms with it; it depended on how she faced him.
"Also, today is Lefas's suture removal day." Shouya said with a glint in his eyes. The scar on his face had smoothed out, and the skin graft surgery had been very successful; he was eager to have the stitches removed today.
"Suture removal?" An Xin Ya asked in confusion. "What does that mean?!"
"It's a long story. All I can say is that he had a scar on his face and always wore a mask. Now he underwent surgery for Wushuang's sake—just so she could see him at his best."
I never expected such a domineering person to have such a gentle side. It shows his love for Wushuang, a mix of dominance and tenderness.
"Then I should congratulate him for having Wushuang," An Xin Ya said sincerely.
Shouya was also happy for Rafas, but his temper was still as foul as ever, and his attitude towards him was unfriendly. Especially when he spoke to or was alone with Wushuang, he would inexplicably fly into a rage.
Perhaps he cared too much about Wushuang! He feared that someone might take away the woman he loved.
Thinking of this, Shouya glanced again at the beautiful An Xin Ya. At this moment, she was the woman he cherished. He would love her well for the rest of his life, take care of her, and even help her heal her eyes.
"Xinya, I want to take you to the hospital tomorrow morning to check your eyes," Shouya said while driving.
"Brother Shouya, can my eyes really be healed? Can I regain my sight?" An Xin Ya asked hesitantly, with some concerns. She had been blind for six years, living in darkness without seeing anything. She could only feel the world through her ears, nose, and heart.
"Of course! You have to believe me! You need to have a little faith in yourself too!" Shouya noticed her worried expression and reached out to hold her hand tightly, giving her warmth and confidence.
An Xin Ya certainly believed Brother Shouya. She hoped that through his hands, she could see the light again and look at the world, at their friends, and at her grandmother...
The more she thought about it, the more excited she became; there were so many hopes in her heart!
She nodded vigorously and said, "Brother Shouya, I believe in myself and in you. Thank you, Brother Shouya!"
"This is what I should do. It's too early to thank me now; when your eyes are better and you can see again, then it won't be too late to thank me!" Shouya smiled. Seeing her regain confidence made him feel much more relaxed, allowing him to focus on her eyes and conduct a thorough examination.
An Xin Ya remained silent, sitting quietly as she felt the refreshing breeze coming through the car and the strength from the person beside her.
The next day, Shouya drove to Xinya's house to take her to the hospital for an eye examination. After a series of inquiries, the results were finally out.
At that moment, Shouya asked the doctor how it looked.
The doctor said, "Her condition is acquired. The reason for her blindness due to the car accident is that her eyeball ruptured, the contents completely extruded, and the optic nerve was severed. This type of injury often results in severe vision loss because timely rescue was not performed, and gradually it leads to complete blindness."
"What are the chances of a successful surgery?"
"Her case is quite severe; the success rate is about twenty percent."
Hearing this, Shouya furrowed his brow even tighter. He looked at An Xin Ya's recent eye examination report. The doctor mentioned a twenty percent chance, which meant there was still a possibility of restoring her sight. Even if it was only twenty percent, he wanted to take that chance.
As he walked out of the doctor's office, Shouya saw An Xin Ya sitting on a bench. He had her sit there to prevent her from hearing any bad news that might emotionally impact her.
He approached Xinya, gently lifting her up with both hands, a smile curving his lips, his gaze soft as water. "Xinya..."
"Brother Shouya, how is it? Can my eyes be cured? Will I be able to see again?" An Xin Ya asked excitedly, gripping Shouya's hands tightly.
"Xinya, the doctor said that as long as you cooperate, it can be treated," Shouya replied, frowning as he looked at An Xin Ya's beautiful eyes, feeling unsure about what to do.
"No, that's not true. I heard everything just now; I heard everything. Don't lie to me," An Xin Ya said. She had been feeling along the wall and secretly listening outside the door; she had heard all the doctor's words and felt like she had been struck by lightning. "Brother Shouya, only a twenty percent chance means there’s no hope!"
As she spoke, tears began to flow down her cheeks.
Seeing her in such despair and sadness made Shouya feel heartbroken as well. He pulled her into his arms tightly and said, "Xinya, listen to me. Even if it's only twenty percent, there is still hope. I am a doctor; I will definitely cure you. Don't lose heart; believe in me..."
