Shouya looked at An Xin Ya's still pale face, furrowing his brows as he said, "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have let you go in..."
This place was different from her home; she was familiar with everything there. In a strange place, she would panic and could even get hurt.
"Brother Shouya, you can't blame yourself. If anything, blame me for being careless," An Xin Ya replied with a smile upon hearing the reproach in Shouya's tone.
Shouya felt a pang of heartache as he looked at her. Grandma An had repeatedly reminded him to take good care of Xinya before they came to New York, and now this had happened just after their arrival.
"Xinya, you should lie down and rest," Shouya said as he carefully helped her lie back down, covering her stomach with a blanket.
He stayed by An Xin Ya's side that day, applying ice packs for twenty minutes every four hours.
Around midnight, An Xin Ya woke up and saw that Shouya had fallen asleep beside her, his head resting on the bed. Next to him was an ice bucket filled with melted ice.
An Xin Ya felt that her foot was much better; it didn't hurt as much as before and had swollen less. She quietly got out of bed but still felt a slight pain.
Shouya seemed to hear something and woke up, startled to find that An Xin Ya was no longer on the bed. He turned to see her carefully making her way along the wall...
"Xinya, why did you get out of bed?" Shouya quickly stood up and went over to support her, frowning with concern.
"I wanted to go to the bathroom," An Xin Ya said, feeling embarrassed for waking him up.
"Then let me help you in!" Shouya said as he assisted Xinya into the bathroom. He then closed the door behind her and stood outside, listening intently for any sounds inside, worried that something might happen again.
This time nothing went wrong. After using the bathroom, An Xin Ya carefully opened the door and stepped out.
Shouya quickly took her hand, not wanting her to walk alone for fear she might twist her ankle again. He scooped her up in his arms.
"Brother Shouya, what are you doing?" An Xin Ya was startled, her eyes wide open as she spoke in a panic, but she still held tightly to his neck.
"If I let you walk like this, it will only increase the pain in your feet. I might as well carry you back to bed!" Shouya calmly carried her back to the guest room. He glanced at her; under the light, her lowered eyelids and thick eyelashes cast a faint shadow on her cheeks.
An Xin Ya clung tightly to his neck, feeling his warm breath brush against her face as he spoke, which made her feel ticklish and shy.
Shouya gently placed her on the bed, helped her lie down, and then covered her with a blanket to keep her warm.
"Brother Shouya, I'm hungry!" An Xin Ya hadn't eaten for a day, and her stomach was growling. Just as Shouya was about to turn and leave the guest room, she suddenly grabbed his hand firmly and said.
"Alright, what do you want to eat? I'll call the front desk and have them send something up," Shouya leaned down and asked her softly.
"Anything is fine." An Xin Ya thought for a moment; she really couldn't think of anything specific she wanted. After all, she wasn't picky and could eat anything.
"Okay then!" Shouya reached out to gently stroke her cheek and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Looking at her rosy cheeks, she resembled a red apple, and he felt an urge to take a big bite.
He stood up, picked up the phone, dialed the front desk number, and ordered food to be sent to room X.
An Xin Ya wanted to sit up, and Shouya quickly moved forward to help her sit up. Looking into her beautiful eyes that seemed empty yet captivating, with slightly curled eyelashes and rosy lips quietly gazing at him, he felt warmth radiating from her gaze. His face slowly leaned closer to An Xin Ya's as he intended to kiss her. Just as he was about to kiss her, someone suddenly knocked on the door.
He felt a bit irritated; why did they have to knock at this moment? He glanced at An Xin Ya and reluctantly got up to open the door. A man in an elegant hotel uniform pushed in a cart with the food he had just ordered.
Shouya frowned at the Male Waiter who interrupted him while trying to do something nice. Anger flickered in his eyes as he took out his wallet from his pocket, pulled out some cash, and handed it to the Male Waiter, signaling him to push it inside.
The Male Waiter pushed the cart inside and noticed that the lights were on in the guest room. He vaguely saw a beautiful woman leaning against the bed, stunning him with her beauty and making him drool.
After the Male Waiter left, Shouya lifted the lid and brought it inside, placing it by the bed.
An Xin Ya caught a whiff of the delicious aroma in the air, and her lips curled into a smile.
She initially wanted to eat by herself, but Shouya insisted on feeding her. Unable to resist him, she let him do so.
She was indeed very hungry, but she couldn't eat much; after just a few bites, she felt full and shook her head, saying she didn't want any more.
"If you're not eating, then I will! I'm hungry too!" Shouya said with a smile.
"But it's covered in my saliva," An Xin Ya pointed out, knowing he had only ordered one serving.
"That's okay! Wasting food is a bad habit!" Shouya replied, then took big bites of the remaining food.
Listening to the sounds he made while eating, An Xin Ya couldn't help but chuckle. However, thinking about him eating food that had her saliva on it made her face flush again; it was as if they had indirectly kissed.
Later that night, as she tried to fall asleep again, An Xin Ya found herself wide awake, her big eyes open as her mind wandered elsewhere. She lay on the large bed in the guest room while Shouya slept on the sofa in the living room.
Suddenly, she thought she heard something and felt a wave of fear wash over her. Gripping the blanket tightly, she called out in panic, "Brother Shouya, Brother Shouya..."
Half-asleep, Shouya woke up upon hearing An Xin Ya calling for him. He quickly jumped off the sofa and strode into the guest room, turning on the light to see her frightened and wrapped up in the blanket.
He approached the bed, took her hand, and frowned as he asked, "What's wrong?"
Hearing Brother Shouya's voice made An Xin Ya sit up abruptly. She hugged him tightly and nervously said, "Brother Shouya, I'm scared..."
After all, being in a strange place made her somewhat uncomfortable. Her hearing, sense of smell, and other senses were very sharp, but without any family or familiar faces around, she felt scared and anxious.
Shouya held her close, gently patting her back and softly comforting her, "Don't be afraid, I'm here. I will protect you."
"Brother Shouya, can you stay with me tonight? I'm really scared..." An Xin Ya left Shouya's embrace, her terrified eyes wide open as she stared ahead, panic etched on her face. Fine beads of sweat appeared on her smooth forehead as she tightly grasped Shouya's arms in a plea.
"Okay, I'll be by your side tonight and help you fall asleep," Shouya said gently.
Only then did An Xin Ya feel reassured, though she still held onto his hands tightly.
Shouya helped her lie down and then got into bed himself, covering her with the blanket before lying beside her.
An Xin Ya curled up like a little kitten in his arms. Shouya held her tightly around the waist, quietly watching as Xinya peacefully fell asleep in his embrace. A subtle smile formed at the corners of his mouth as he leaned down to kiss her smooth forehead.
The next morning, when An Xin Ya woke up, she smelled a delicate jasmine fragrance and felt a warm breath gently brushing against her face. She smiled sweetly and moved closer to him, pressing her ear against his chest to listen to the strong rhythm of his heartbeat through the thin fabric of his shirt, feeling the warmth of his body...
"You’re awake, Xinya?" Shouya chuckled as he looked at An Xin Ya. He had already been awake but didn’t want to disturb her; he just wanted her to sleep a little longer in his arms. He had seen how she pressed her ear against his chest to listen to his heartbeat.
Startled by Shouya's voice above her, An Xin Ya lowered her gaze shyly, her face turning red.
They fell silent for a moment, immersed in happiness...
"Oh right, Brother Shouya, didn't you say you would take me to your medical center today?" An Xin Ya suddenly asked while nestled in his arms.
"Yes!" Shouya glanced at the time and then said to Xinya, "We’ll leave in half an hour."
Shouya got up and walked to the bathroom to wash up. Lying on the bed, Xinya closed her eyes, smiling as she hugged the blanket, which had a faint jasmine fragrance.
After washing up, Shouya came out and saw that Xinya was still lying in bed, so he gently called her to get up and wash her face and brush her teeth.
Shouya walked over to help Xinya get out of bed and went to the bathroom. He had already squeezed toothpaste for her and filled the water, quietly standing at the door watching her wash her face and brush her teeth.
Suddenly, his phone rang. Shouya took it out and saw it was a call from his medical center. He glanced at Xinya and walked to the window to answer the call.
After finishing washing, Xinya stumbled out and sat on the bed. She took a comb from her bag and gently brushed her hair. Then she opened her suitcase, felt around for some clothes, and found an outfit to wear.
After ending the call, Shouya saw that Xinya was ready, so he took her to the restaurant on the first floor of the hotel for breakfast.
Xinya silently ate her breakfast, feeling the warmth of the sunlight. Suddenly, Shouya held her hand, which startled her for a moment. Then she smiled, her lips curving like the morning sun—warm and beautiful.
After finishing breakfast, Shouya helped Xinya out of Venerale Hotel. A black sedan was already waiting there. He opened the car door and assisted her into the seat.
Throughout the journey, Shouya held Xinya's hand tightly, hoping she wouldn't be nervous or afraid.
When they arrived at his Medical and Experimental Center, it was a large hospital located in New York City Center. His Medical and Experimental Center was situated on the seventh floor of this hospital's inpatient building, equipped with advanced medical facilities and experienced medical staff to provide healthcare services.
Taking the elevator to the seventh floor, Shouya helped Xinya out of the elevator. As they reached the seventh floor, a man in a white coat approached them. He was handsome, wearing glasses, and appeared to be in his thirties.
"Shouya, you’re here!" The man glanced at the woman beside Shouya, noting her fair skin and sweet innocence. He couldn't help but admire her beauty but noticed that her eyes were vacant and unfocused, staring straight ahead. "This must be your patient!"
