"Dr. Shoya, I waited for you all day yesterday, waiting for you to come back late to rest. This morning, I had a morning meeting with Dr. Jiegana and now I'm doing research in the lab!" the Nurse said. "Are you looking for him? I can go get him for you!"
"Uh, no need!" An Xin Ya smiled and shook her head. Since he was busy, she didn't want to disturb him.
Although she hadn't seen him, her mood was much better than usual. She wasn't feeling anxious or out of control like before, even needing sedatives to calm down. Perhaps it was because she could see things now, maybe because she could see this world, or maybe because she could see Brother Shouya. For whatever reason, she really wanted to go out for a walk and see...
"Miss Shinya, are you hungry? I'll go prepare lunch for you," the Nurse suddenly said.
"Mm!" An Xin Ya nodded; she was indeed hungry, her stomach growling.
After the Nurse left the room, An Xin Ya stood up and looked around the ward. Compared to other hospital wards, this one was truly luxurious and comfortable, warm and elegant.
She walked to the window and pulled back the light blue cotton curtains. The sunlight immediately shone on her, giving her a warm feeling.
Looking outside, the clear blue sky radiated a soft glow, pure and ethereal, making one want to hear the song of a lark soaring high above, just like gazing at the endless sea where sky and water meet and wishing to see a white sail.
Closing her eyes, she felt the fresh air brought by deep autumn; everything was so wonderful and real.
She completely failed to notice someone had entered quietly behind her, wrapping their arms around her waist tightly and whispering in her ear, "What are you looking at? What are you thinking about?"
Startled, An Xin Ya opened her eyes wide but relaxed upon hearing Brother Shouya's voice. A sweet smile appeared on her face as she said, "I was looking at the sky, feeling the sunlight and the gentle autumn breeze passing by me..."
Shouya held her close, resting his chin on her shoulder with his face against her soft hair, smiling as he said, "Hearing you say that sounds truly beautiful! But it's deep autumn now; temperatures have dropped suddenly. You need to keep warm and be careful not to catch a cold!"
"Mm!" Listening to Shouya's words made An Xin Ya feel that each one carried warmth that warmed her heart, filling her with immense happiness as if she were a little bird soaring joyfully through the sky.
"Are you hungry?" Shouya released his hold on her hand and took hers instead, guiding her to sit on the bed. Just as he entered, he happened to run into the Nurse carrying food; he took it from her hands and brought it in himself.
"Mm! I am indeed very hungry." Sitting on the bed and smelling the delicious aroma of food in the air, An Xin Ya smiled slightly as she looked at the dishes on the tray. They were simple dishes but vibrant in color; she felt very excited.
"Here, let me feed you," Shouya said as he held up a bowl of rice and picked up some vegetables with chopsticks to bring to her mouth.
An Xin Ya shook her head and said, "I don't want you to feed me; I want to eat by myself."
She had already seen it and didn't want to trouble Brother Shouya anymore, wanting to do it herself.
"Alright then!" Shouya didn't want to force her.
She took the bowl of rice from Shouya's hands and grabbed the chopsticks. Lowering her eyelids, she looked at the white rice in the bowl, steam gently rising from it, filling the air with its fragrant aroma. In front of Shouya, she began to eat, taking bites of food and playfully feeding him some as well.
Shouya sat beside her, watching her eat while also feeding himself. His dark eyes sparkled with a bright light, filled with tenderness. The time spent together felt so beautiful! After everything they had been through, he needed to cherish her and ensure she would never be hurt again.
"Brother Shouya, you said before that you would take me to Thailand. There’s Chiang Mai, Mango, Patia, Windmill Country, Northern Country, and my hometown China..." After finishing her meal, An Xin Ya said with a smile.
"Yes! Are you afraid I would forget? How could I forget? I will definitely take you to those places," Shouya replied while looking at her.
"Brother Shouya, will you really take me?" An Xin Ya asked with wide eyes, incredulously.
"Of course!"
"I thought you were just teasing me!" An Xin Ya's face turned shyly red as she lowered her gaze, feeling her heart racing; it turned out everything he said was true.
"Silly girl, how could I tease you!" Shouya gently stroked her head and then pulled her into his embrace.
"Brother Shouya, how many more days do I need to stay in the hospital before I can go back to Las Vegas?"
Knowing she wanted to leave the hospital quickly to see her grandmother and that she missed her dearly, Shouya said to her, "Just a couple more days; you'll be out soon."
"Okay!" An Xin Ya closed her eyes in his warm embrace, pressing her ear against his chest and listening to his steady heartbeat, feeling the warmth radiating from his white coat...
For the next two days, An Xin Ya had to stay in the hospital for observation while Shouya tried his best to find time to accompany her since there were many experiments he needed to conduct.
An Xin Ya thought of Wian and took the elevator down to the hospital alone in search of Wian's room. She found Wian's room but discovered that it was not Wian inside; another patient had taken their place.
She approached a nurse and asked about Wian. The nurse informed her that Wian had passed away a few days ago due to leukemia.
Hearing this terrible news was like a bolt from the blue; she felt her legs go weak and wanted to collapse. However, she managed to support herself against the wall. She had intended to wait until her eyes healed so she could see Wian, but now she couldn't even see Wian one last time.
Her eyes suddenly filled with tears as she sorrowfully walked back to the Seventh Floor Medical Research Center.
Shouya was still searching for An Xin Ya, thinking she had gone missing. When he saw her return, the stone that had been hanging in his heart finally fell. He strode over to her and noticed her pale complexion, asking, "Xinya, what happened? Are you feeling unwell?"
An Xin Ya did not answer; she simply shook her head and walked back to her hospital room.
"Xinya, where did you go just now? I was really worried about you!" Shouya poured a glass of water for her, frowning with concern.
"I wanted to go see Wian, but the nurse told me she passed away a few days ago." As she spoke, An Xin Ya's voice choked up. She held the cup tightly, staring blankly at a spot.
Shouya was taken aback. He knew that she and Wian were very close and was aware of Wian's passing. However, at that time, she was about to undergo surgery and was emotionally unstable, so he hadn't told her the news, fearing she wouldn't be able to handle it. He had instructed the nurses to keep it a secret.
He had planned to tell her once her eye injury healed. Since she already knew now, there was no need for him to hide it any longer.
"She had malignant leukemia; the cancer cells spread very quickly..."
"Brother Shouya, you're a doctor; you can save her, can't you?" An Xin Ya didn't want to hear Shouya's explanation. She seemed a bit agitated as she furrowed her brows and looked at Shouya.
"Xinya, calm down! This disease isn't impossible to cure; there's only one method—bone marrow transplantation. But in this vast world, finding a matching donor is nearly impossible. Wian's father died from this disease years ago. Her mother only gave birth to her; there are no siblings at all..."
Hearing Shouya say this, An Xin Ya suddenly released her grip, tears welling up in her eyes. Was it really impossible? She was so young and had to leave this world...
"Xinya..." Shouya frowned as he looked at her and reached out to embrace her, comforting her.
Shouya stayed by her side. Perhaps exhausted from crying, she unknowingly fell asleep in his arms. He carefully laid her down and covered her with a blanket, quietly watching her tear-streaked face with heartache.
After a few days of observation in the hospital, An Xin Ya was finally able to be discharged. She felt incredibly excited and thanked all the doctors and nurses who had helped her before leaving the hospital.
Shouya opened the car door and helped her into the passenger seat.
Shouya bypassed the front of the car, opened the door, and sat in the driver's seat. Noticing that she hadn't fastened her seatbelt, he wanted to help her, but she smiled and said she could do it herself.
“Brother Shouya, can we go back to Las Vegas today?” An Xin Ya was already eager to return, wanting to see her grandmother as soon as possible, believing that her grandmother was anxiously waiting for her at home.
“The flight is tomorrow.” Shouya started the car, smoothly merging into the traffic.
“Why?” An Xin Ya looked at him in confusion, her features sharp and striking; she hadn’t expected him to look so good from the side.
“I want to spend a wonderful evening with you tonight.” Shouya said with a smile in his eyes and a gentle grin on his lips as he looked at An Xin Ya.
At his gaze, Xinya’s face flushed instantly, turning red to her ears. Understanding the implication behind his words, she shyly smiled, her face burning like hot water, her heart racing. She didn’t speak; of course, she also wanted to spend a wonderful evening with him.
They temporarily returned to the hotel.
As soon as they entered the room, Shouya put down his luggage and eagerly embraced her.
“Brother Shouya, what are you doing? Put me down, hurry up and put me down.” An Xin Ya was extremely shy and struggled continuously, but no matter how hard she tried, a woman’s strength couldn’t match that of a stronger man.
Shouya didn’t put her down; instead, he carried her into the room and gently placed her on the spacious bed. Leaning down, he smiled at her and said, “Xinya, you’re beautiful!”
Looking at his handsome face and hearing his words, An Xin Ya’s face turned crimson again, lowering her eyelids as long lashes cast shadows over her cheeks. She felt nervous inside, gripping her hands tightly as her chest rose and fell.
Seeing her curvaceous body, Shouya reached out to unbutton her clothing, revealing glimpses of her skin. He leaned down to kiss her lips softly, nibbling gently before easily prying open her teeth and boldly slipping inside to tease her. Their entanglement was sweet and intoxicating, like savoring a glass of red wine.
