Xinya did not respond to him, turned around, and walked out of the room. She went downstairs, took Qifan from her grandmother, and then walked in front of him, saying, "I really don't want to go back at all."
"Why don't you want to go back? Do you want to stay here forever?" Shouya looked at her and reached out to tease Qifan.
"Dad, do we really have to go back to Las Vegas?" Wenjin rushed out, grabbing his pant leg and looking up at him.
"Yes, we are going home," Shouya said as he picked up Wenjin and smiled.
"I don't want to go back yet! I want to stay here; there are so many fun places and delicious food..."
"But you have to go back to school. Think about it; you'll be back in school soon. How about this: when you have a holiday, Dad will bring you back to play, okay?"
Wenjin pouted and said, "No way! The holiday is still far away; do you want me to wait that long? By then, the flowers will wither."
"Haha..."
Everyone burst into laughter! Shouya gave Wenjin a deep kiss on the cheek.
She seemed to think of something, handed Qifan to her grandmother, and turned back to the study to grab some things.
Just as she walked out of the study and was about to close the door, she took one last look around the room with a reluctant gaze at everything inside. She would come back when she had time. Just as she was preparing to go down the stairs, Shouya rushed up. He came so fast that he almost bumped into her. They stood at the top of the stairs, gazing deeply at each other.
"What's wrong, dear?" She blinked at Shouya. His gaze made her feel embarrassed, and her face flushed slightly.
He did not answer her but continued to gaze at her. Even though she was already a mother of two children, she remained sweet, pure, and beautiful—still the girl he had first met but now with an added touch of maturity.
"Brother Shouya, why are you looking at me like that?" Xinya asked again, confused about why he suddenly rushed over and stared at her intently.
"You are truly beautiful!" He finally spoke.
Xinya widened her eyes at him, unsure of what was happening. His sudden compliment made her shyly laugh as she said, "I'm almost turning into an old hag; how can I be beautiful!"
"You are my wife; you are my woman. Even if you become an old hag, I would still like you because you are the woman I love most in this life."
"You’re so cheesy! I have goosebumps all over! You should consider that the kids are downstairs and Grandma is here. If they hear this, it would be so embarrassing!"
Shouya shouldn't be so clingy. He lowered his head, wanting to kiss her, but she dodged away. His face fell instantly, like a child, and he pouted, "Just one kiss, come on!"
"Don't! Grandma is still waiting for us downstairs! Once we get home, you can kiss me as much as you want," Xinya said helplessly, sometimes feeling that he really was like a child.
Sigh! Sometimes, a man's stubbornness remains the same from childhood to adulthood.
But he wouldn't give in. He suddenly hugged her tightly and pressed a deep kiss on her lips. Xinya's heart raced, her face flushed red, and her eyes widened in surprise. She couldn't push him away because he had firmly held her hands.
"Wow, Mom and Dad are getting busy..."
Hearing Wenjin's voice, Xinya quickly pushed Shouya away. She saw Wenjin peeking from around the corner, making a funny face at them before turning and running downstairs.
"Look what you've done! It's all your fault! I told you not to kiss me, but you insisted. Now our daughter saw it..." Xinya glared at him resentfully as she walked past him holding a delicate little box.
"So what if she saw? Why not kiss a few more times?" During this time, although she had forgiven him, she still hadn't given him any indication of intimacy. It had been a long time since they had been together like that, and his desires were burning inside him. However, such matters required mutual consent; otherwise, it would backfire.
"Hey! Shouya, can't you stop? Don't pull and tug like that; it's embarrassing if the kids see!" Xinya pushed him away with all her might. He wanted to kiss her cheek again, but she wouldn't let him. What was wrong with this man?
They were already like an old married couple; why was he still trying to be romantic?
A woman's strength could never match a man's; he managed to steal another deep kiss from her lips. He pulled away contentedly and looked at her with his dark eyes filled with affection, saying, "Xinya, I love you! In this life, I will never let you leave my side."
"Never? That depends on whether you behave yourself!" Xinya shot him a sideways glance.
"I'm very well-behaved! The incident with Meiqi was purely a misunderstanding. Besides, didn't Javier already call you about it? That night, it was indeed him who took Meiqi home." Women tend to hold grudges; Shouya explained again.
"Meiqi, Meiqi, calling her so affectionately, hmph!" Xinya was jealous and said sourly as she pushed him away and walked downstairs.
"Xinya, don't be like that! I won't call her that in front of you anymore, okay?" Shouya said helplessly, knowing she was jealous because she cared about him.
Xinya ignored him and went straight downstairs to put the box in her bag.
He shook his head helplessly again. "A woman's emotions are always fickle; their moods change faster than flipping through a book."
However, today he was filled with excitement, and everyone else was too.
Shouya drove the car, started the engine, and headed to Beijing International Airport, where he boarded a plane back to Las Vegas.
“Dad, are you and Mom going to argue again?” Wenjin suddenly asked from between them.
Shouya glanced at Xinya and gently replied to Wenjin, “No, Dad won’t argue with Mom anymore!”
“If Dad and Mom argue, Mom will take us back to Beijing. There are so many fun things to do there, and so much delicious food…”
Shouya stared blankly at Wenjin. Not only did this child not help him out, but he was also causing trouble between them, leaving him speechless with anger. Wenjin made a funny face at him and then dove into Grandma's arms, playing with his younger brother.
Shouya reached out to hold Xinya's hand, but she abruptly shook it off, shot him a glare, and picked up a magazine to read. This left him feeling awkward and unsure of what to do!
When he tried again to put his arm around her shoulder, she glared at him fiercely once more, forcing him to retract his hand.
Las Vegas
“Finally back home!” Wenjin excitedly rushed into the house.
Grandma carried the sleeping Qifan inside and went to rest in her room. Qifan was very well-behaved and quiet; shortly after getting on the plane, he nestled in Great-Grandmother's arms and fell sweetly asleep. He remained the same even after getting off the plane and riding home.
This child was quiet and not very active; his temperament resembled Xinya's but also had some traits of Shouya's.
“Let me handle it!” Shouya walked to the back of the car and saw Xinya struggling to pull out a heavy suitcase from behind. He quickly stepped forward to help.
“No need, I can manage,” Xinya said as she struggled with the suitcase while making her way into the house.
“Don’t be stubborn; let me do it! You can just grab those lighter bags,” Shouya insisted as he took the suitcase from her hands effortlessly and walked inside.
Xinya watched his tall figure. In her heart, she had already forgiven him; however, on the surface, she wanted to find some way to punish him. She intentionally kept her distance so that he would understand the importance of his wife and family.
The next day, Xinya unexpectedly ran into Yezi at the supermarket. They hadn’t seen each other for quite some time since everyone had been busy taking care of their children, unlike before when a simple phone call could arrange a meet-up for a chat.
They looked at each other in surprise. After shopping, the two of them sat down at a restaurant, ordered two cups of juice, and started chatting while drinking.
"I heard you had a fight with Brother Shouya?" She was dressed casually and comfortably, but her figure had not changed after having children; in fact, she seemed even more charming than before.
Knowing about their situation was probably something Faisal had told her, and Faisal knew because Shouya had confided in him. They were good friends and brothers who shared everything, so Yezi was not surprised.
"We had a disagreement over some issues and ended up arguing; we almost got divorced!" Xinya said lightly, as if recounting someone else's story.
"My husband and I often argue too. If it gets serious, we might give each other the cold shoulder, but it never escalates to divorce. He always apologizes first, and then we make up," Ieyako thought. Arguments were a common occurrence for couples; if there were no arguments, that would be the real problem. No matter what, they had to think about the children.
"Heh, that's just because you haven't encountered it yet. If you did, you'd be like me—very emotional and wanting a divorce, taking the kids and running away from him..."
"Is it because of a third party?" Ieyako had already heard from Faisal about their situation. The reason things had become so tense was due to another woman intervening in their marriage.
"Yes!" Xinya looked at Yezi with bright eyes. "What if there was a woman holding photos—photos of her being intimate with your husband during their travels? But that's not the main point; the main point is that she shows you an early pregnancy report. If you were in my shoes, what would you think?"
She wanted to hear Yezi's thoughts. She didn't want others to label her actions as extreme or foolish for not considering her two children.
Listening to Xinya, Ieyako pondered for a moment, then looked down at her juice and couldn't help but chuckle softly. "I don't know what I would do either. Maybe I would sadly confront my husband about what’s going on. If he didn’t give me an honest answer, I would consider asking for a divorce..."
"You see? I'm not the only one who would lose my cool. Which woman wouldn't react this way? Even if it's for the sake of the children and pretending nothing happened, it’s hard to endure such betrayal; that’s why some choose divorce." At that moment, her feelings were something no one could understand or relate to. Despite trying to hold back her tears, she ultimately couldn't control them and kept crying...
