“Anna Zheng!” Zhao PD shouted.
Anna turned around at the sound and quickly ran over, putting down what she was holding. She had a clean face, large bright eyes, a simple ponytail, a tall and slightly slim figure, a plain white t-shirt, unadorned jeans, and sneakers.
“Yes, Zhao PD,” Anna said while bowing.
“Today is your first day filming with the show. You will follow Dong Wan and shadow Ji-hyo,” Zhao PD said.
“Okay,” Anna replied with a smile. This was her first day officially as an FD for the Running Man program, marking the first step towards her dream.
“Dong Wan, make sure to take good care of Anna later,” Zhao PD said to Dong Wan, who was standing nearby.
“Sure, don’t worry,” Dong Wan smiled.
As the program was about to start filming, Zhao PD went off to handle other matters.
“Anna, just follow me later. Learn from my experience; it will be tiring and dull at first, but everyone goes through this,” Dong Wan told Anna.
“Yes, Dong Wan senior,” Anna said nervously.
“Don’t be nervous. Just observe the program flow, and you can call me Dong Wan,” he replied with a smile.
Anna nodded and smiled back. “Okay, thank you, Dong Wan.”
As the program began filming, before the Chase Battle, the FDs mainly needed to observe the scene. Today's guests were IU and Park Myung-soo. Although the broadcast would only last a little over sixty minutes, the filming would take more than ten hours.
The Chase Battle began late at night.
"Make sure to stick close to me, and remember to keep an eye on Ji-hyo as well; we need to hide together," Dong Wan said.
"Okay," Anna replied, but then a cold voice came from behind her.
"Hmph, it's not that easy. I bet someone like you won't last three months before heading home. You might as well find a rich man to marry; that's more suited for a girl like you." Turning around, Anna saw the production assistant Park Soo Eun, who was four or five years older than her, with a sharp bob haircut and a no-nonsense attitude. Just as Anna was about to retort, Park Soo Eun shot her a glance and went off to do something else.
Anna felt confused, a mix of anger and grievance swelling inside her.
"Don't mind her," Dong Wan comforted. "Let's go find Ji-hyo and discuss the process."
Anna nodded. "Alright."
At that moment, Ji-hyo had already changed into her outfit. To run better, she had styled her beautiful long hair into a bun at the back.
"Sister Jihyo, this is the new FD Anna Zheng. She'll be following you with me today," Dong Wan said.
Anna bowed and greeted, "Hello, Sister Jihyo."
Ji-hyo smiled brightly and quickly stood up to return the bow. "Hello, Miss Anna."
"Just call me Anna. I will do my best to keep up with you today."
"Yes, let's do our best," Ji-hyo said, making a gesture of encouragement.
Looking at Ji-hyo's bright smile, Anna felt a lot more relaxed, and the earlier unpleasantness was swept away. At eleven o'clock in the evening, the Chase Battle officially began filming. Anna was both excited and nervous. Ji-hyo's stamina was surprisingly good; after running and hiding for over an hour, along with searching for things, he showed no signs of fatigue at all.
In contrast, Anna was a bit out of breath, and at that moment, Dong Wan was too focused on Ji-hyo to pay her any attention.
" Ji-hyo," Yoo Jae-suk's voice called out.
Ji-hyo turned to see Yoo Jae-suk smiling happily. "What's up, brother?"
Jae-seok patted Anna on the shoulder and jokingly said to Ji-hyo, "Look at how tired you've made the new FD."
It was only then that Ji-hyo noticed Anna's breathless state and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry, Miss Anna."
Everyone laughed happily. Although Anna knew Brother Jae-seok meant no harm, she felt a bit sad. After just over an hour of running like this, especially following Sister Jihyo, she wondered what she would do if she were with Brother Jae-seok or Jung Kook.
"Miss Anna, you should start working out quickly; otherwise, you'll end up like Kwon Ryeol," Brother Jae-seok teased his VJ.
"I got it, Brother Jae-seok," Anna replied.
"Yeah, let's go work out together tomorrow," Ji-hyo said to Anna.
"Okay," Anna nodded.
Suddenly, a rush of footsteps approached, and the atmosphere became tense. Turning around, Kim Jong Kook charged toward them like a beast.
Seeing him on TV had been intimidating enough, but witnessing it in person was even more shocking.
"Ah!" Ji-hyo and Brother Jae-seok turned and ran away, their speed so fast that they couldn't afford to be distracted.
Anna chased after Ji-hyo's footsteps but couldn't match Kim Jong Kook's speed, while Sister Jihyo was cornered against the wall.
"Brother, let me have one hand free," Sister Jihyo said defiantly, negotiating with Kim Jong Kook.
"Sure," Jung Kook replied with a smile, gallantly lifting one hand.
The battle unfolded smoothly, and Ji-hyo held her own, managing to touch Kim Jong Kook's name tag several times, but ultimately she was outmatched by the capable ones and had her name tag torn off by Jung Kook.
"Great job, you worked hard, Ji-hyo," Jung Kook said, patting her shoulder in encouragement.
Ji-hyo smiled, her forehead glistening with sweat as she regretfully walked toward the Elimination Room.
"Tired?" Ji-hyo asked Anna.
"Yes, a bit," Anna nodded.
"I'll recommend a gym we all like to go to," Ji-hyo said with a smile. "You need to get strong quickly; being in the entertainment industry is tough."
"Okay, thank you, Sister Ji-hyo." Anna felt grateful for Ji-hyo's warm words.
