The killer seemed to ignore my words, gently dragging the dagger across the girl's neck. A thin line of blood immediately appeared, and bright red blood began to flow down her pale skin, a shocking sight. 0

"What do you want from me?" I forced myself to suppress my anger and tried to keep my tone calm. 0

The killer turned his head to look at me, a strange smile curling at the corners of his mouth. He pointed the dagger at a painting on the wall and said ominously, "I want you to help me find it!" 0

Following the direction of his finger, I saw an abstract painting hanging on the wall. The colors were bright yet chaotic, resembling the work of a madman scribbling randomly. I couldn't see anything special about this painting, nor did I understand its connection to what the killer was looking for. 0

"What is this?" I asked. 0

"You don't need to know what it is; you just need to know that if you can't find it, you'll never see your little girlfriend again," the killer said as he moved the dagger away from the girl's neck and turned toward the door. When he reached the doorway, he paused and said without looking back, "Remember, you only have three days." 0

After saying this, he opened the door and vanished into the night. 0

I rushed to the girl and untied her ropes. She had fainted from shock. I picked her up and quickly exited the room. Li Na was anxiously waiting outside; upon seeing me carrying the girl, she hurried over and asked, "What happened? Are you okay?" 0

"I'm fine; she needs to be taken to the hospital immediately." I handed the girl over to Li Na and then took out my phone to call Director Wang. 0

"Director Wang, the killer has appeared..." 0

"Director Wang, the killer has appeared..." I spoke rapidly, succinctly reporting the situation at the crime scene and the ambiguous threat left by the killer. 0

"What?! He actually showed up in front of you! That's incredibly arrogant!" Director Wang's voice on the other end was serious, with a hint of barely concealed anger. "Where is he now? Is anyone hurt?" 0

"He ran away, leaving me with a three-day deadline to help him find something, or..." I paused, took a deep breath, and said in a low voice, "or he'll kill her." 0

"Calm down for a moment; tell me your location; I'll send someone right away." Director Wang's voice was deep and powerful, instilling a sense of reassurance. 0

I provided him with the address and hung up, leaning against the wall with my eyes closed in exhaustion. The terrified look in the girl's eyes and the killer's sinister smile kept flashing through my mind; it felt as if an invisible hand was tightly gripping my heart, making it hard to breathe. 0

" Captain Chen! The Technical Team has news!" Li Na's voice pulled me back from my thoughts as she quickly approached me with a document in hand, her expression serious. 0

I took the document from her and opened it to find a photograph of a young girl with long hair cascading down her shoulders and a delicate face; however, there was a hint of timidity and unease in her eyes—she was indeed the girl who had just been taken by the killer. 0

"The Technical Team has identified her; her name is Lin Xiaoyu, a student at Jiangcheng University. Both her parents are ordinary workers. Based on her social connections, we found no evidence of any interaction with the killer," Li Na's voice was crisp and calm like a refreshing spring that diluted the tension and unease in the air. 0

"No interaction at all?" I frowned as I flipped through the document, trying to find any clues within it. "Then why did the killer kidnap her? Was it just to lure me in?" 0

"That's a possibility we can't rule out, but I think things might be more complicated than that." Li Na shook her head slightly as her gaze fell on the last line of text in the document; her expression changed slightly. "Look at this." 0
