"How far is it to the hospital?" I asked anxiously, my gaze fixed ahead. 0
"It's a five-minute drive," Li Na glanced at the navigation, her tone becoming tense. 0
"Call the hospital to confirm Lin Xiaoyu's safety!" I urged again, a growing sense of foreboding swelling within me. 0
Li Na immediately picked up her phone to make the call, but all she got was a busy signal. Undeterred, she tried several times, but the result was the same. 0
"I can't get through!" Li Na put down her phone, her face pale. "I can't reach the hospital!" 0
My heart sank suddenly, a terrifying thought surged in my mind: We are too late! 0
"Speed up!" I gritted my teeth and suddenly jerked the steering wheel, the police car screeching as it narrowly avoided an oncoming truck, racing toward the hospital. 0

"Don't bother contacting the hospital!" I slammed on the brakes, tires screeching against the pavement. Li Na hadn't reacted yet when I grabbed her wrist with such force that it caused her pain. 0
"What’s wrong?" Li Na frowned in confusion. 0
"There’s no time to explain," I didn’t answer but locked my gaze onto Li Na's eyes, speaking slowly and deliberately. "The target isn’t Lin Xiaoyu; it’s Director Wang's daughter, Uncle Wang's daughter!" 0
Li Na's pupils dilated suddenly as realization hit her; Chen Ge had deliberately misled the killer into thinking that the police would focus on the hospital when their real target was to protect Director Wang's daughter. 0
"Hurry! Contact Director Wang immediately!" I released Li Na and frantically searched for my phone. 0
Li Na also recognized the urgency of the situation and quickly dialed Director Wang's number. However, all she got was a cold series of beeps—no one answered. 0
"Damn it! It won’t connect!" Li Na put down her phone, panic etched across her face. 0
I made a quick decision, grabbed the radio, and shouted urgently, "This is Chen Ge! All units pay attention, head to Southern Villa District immediately, target is Director Wang's residence, highest level of alert! Repeat, highest level of alert!" 0
After putting down the radio, I started the car and pressed the accelerator to the floor; the police car shot out like an arrow released from a bow. 0
"I hope it's not too late..." I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my eyes fixed ahead as I silently prayed. 0

The two of us remained silent during the drive, a tense and oppressive atmosphere filling the vehicle. Li Na's heart raced as she turned to look at me; she saw my brow furrowed and my face shrouded in clouds of worry and anxiety that replaced my usual sharp gaze. 0
Screech— 0
The harsh sound of brakes pierced through the night as I stopped in front of Director Wang's villa. We both pushed open our car doors simultaneously and rushed into the villa. 0
However, what we saw before us felt like a plunge into an ice pit. 0
The villa door was wide open; inside, chaos reigned—the furniture lay scattered on the floor, shards of glass littered everywhere, and a heavy smell of blood hung in the air. 0

At that moment, my phone in my pocket suddenly rang. He mechanically took out the phone and glanced at the caller ID; it was an unfamiliar number. I hesitated for a moment but decided to answer the call. 0

"Congratulations, Captain Chen, you have once again successfully misjudged my thoughts," a deep, hoarse voice came from the other end, laced with a hint of mockery and sarcasm. "It seems you are not as impressive as you think." 0

"If you dare to touch even a hair on her head, I guarantee you will regret it!" I shouted, my eyes nearly blazing with fury. 0

"Heh, Captain Chen, it seems you've misunderstood the situation," the man on the other end replied flippantly. "Right now, I hold the upper hand, don't I? Remember, you only have one chance. If you guess wrong..." 0

He didn't finish his sentence, but the threat in his tone was unmistakable. 0

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. My mind raced as I analyzed every detail in the man's words, searching for any clue that might help me. 0

Tick-tock, tick-tock... 0

A rhythmic dripping sound echoed from the other end of the line, particularly clear in the stillness of the night. 0
