I returned home and bumped into someone.
Looking up, I saw it was Su Wan'er. She was originally the daughter of the Prime Minister and the most beautiful woman in the capital; now, as the Crown Prince's Consort, she was even more arrogant.
Upon seeing me, Su Wan'er looked me up and down and mocked, "Oh, so you've come to the royal residence to be a maid?"
"Well, you are just a merchant's wife; aside from having some looks, you don't seem to have much else," I raised an eyebrow. "Are you trying to set your sights on the War King?"
Su Wan'er snorted coldly, "I am the daughter of the Prime Minister; how could I stoop to such a lowly act?"
"I advise you to leave quickly so you don't dirty the floor of War King Manor."
I nodded, "Then what are you doing here?"
Su Wan'er wore a proud expression, "I'm friends with the Little Princess of War King Manor, so I'm here to see her."
I looked at her in surprise, "You're looking for the Little Princess?"
Su Wan'er raised her chin arrogantly, "Someone like you, a lowly merchant's wife, probably hasn't even heard of the Little Princess's name."
"Never mind; since I'm kind-hearted, I'll reluctantly tell you—her name is Hua Weiyang. Remember it next time and try not to be so ignorant."
I glanced at her but said nothing.
Seeing that I was ignoring her, Su Wan'er wanted to insult me again.
Cai'er stepped forward and slapped her.
"How dare you! Who gave you permission to speak to the Princess like that?"
Su Wan'er was stunned by the slap; she covered her face and looked at Cai'er in disbelief.
"You dare hit me?"
Cai'er placed her hands on her hips and said fiercely, "Yes, I did!"
"What are you? How dare you shout in front of the Princess?"
"You came to the royal residence as a maid, not as a master. How dare you disrespect the Princess? You must be tired of living!"
Su Wan'er was taken aback and turned to look at me in shock. "You... you're Hua Weiyang, the Little Princess of War King Manor?"
I nodded slightly.
Su Wan'er turned pale.
Cai'er slapped again, "You insolent maid! Do you still dare to disrespect the Princess?"
"Someone, take her away and lock her in the woodshed!"
Zhao Lingfeng arrived.
He was impeccably dressed today, looking radiant and determined.
Upon entering the main hall, he respectfully bowed, "I am Zhao Lingfeng, the younger generation, greeting the War King and Consort War King."
He bent down, cupping his hands and bowing his head, not rising.
I hid behind the screen, sipping tea while watching him.
Su Wan'er was beside me, serving obediently.
After a night of hunger in the woodshed, she had become much more docile.
She worked quickly, her eyes showing a hint of fear as she glanced at me.
After waiting for a long time, Zhao Lingfeng still did not hear a response from my father and mother.
He cautiously raised his head to glance at them before quickly lowering it again.
He spoke up, "Your Highness, Your Majesty, I have come today to propose."
"I have already returned Su Wan'er to the Prime Minister's Residence; from now on, there will only be Wei Yang as my wife."
Zhao Lingfeng said this with determination.
I couldn't help but laugh quietly from behind the screen.
Wei Yang?
He called her so affectionately; anyone who didn't know would think we were very close.
After Zhao Lingfeng finished speaking, neither my father nor mother responded.
A quarter of an hour passed before my mother set down her teacup and adjusted her lips with a handkerchief.
She looked meaningfully at Zhao Lingfeng and said, "The Crown Prince has yet to meet my Wei Yang and has made such a promise; are you not afraid that you will regret it after you meet her?"
